Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted January 7 I cannot recall who, but an astute OBD member here pointed out that since Dillon Gabriel is left-handed, this means his blind side is on the right side. I just assumed that Josh Connerly will guard our new QB just fine with all his experience, but now I realize it is the tackle on the other side who is Gabriel's blind-side protector. Thus Ajani Cornelius becomes that much more crucial, and we have not heard if he is going to the NFL or not. If we had a newbie at that important right offensive tackle? Not good... I would like to think that another year would improve Cornelius's draft stock, and now especially being the blind-side protector...that could really up his stock, and give him great experience with that pressure. C'mon man! 1 5 1 4 Mr. FishDuck
EastBayDuckDad Moderator No. 2 Share Posted January 7 Cornelius set a great standard this year at RT, even if it wasn't on Bo's 'blind side'. IMO, one more year under Terry with the O-line pieces in place, protecting Gabriel from harm puts him in the first or second round. Maybe not quite in the Penei stratosphere but right up there where tackles are worth their considerable weight in gold.
David Marsh No. 3 Share Posted January 7 I could see this coaching staff switch Conerly to the right side if needed. He's a talented lineman and with an off-season they could have him completely ready to play on the right side if needed. Though getting AC back would be a big boost. CountryProf No. 4 Share Posted January 7 I'm sure that Lanning & Co. realized this before the rest of us, and that people are working on an NIL deal that might help keep him at Oregon for another year. I hope it works.

Now our O-line will be complete!

I am sure Alique told him how much a season protecting a southpaw would raise his draft stock even higher.... 1
