FishDuck Article Administrator No. 1 Share Posted September 23 Our Oregon Ducks football program took off offensively. Vertical passing, dominant rushing, and enough weapons to score in a hurry. Dillon Gabriel has firmly found his footing in this offense over the past couple of weeks, with Tez Johnson, Terrance Ferguson, and Traeshon Holden leading the way so far. As the season progresses, you can only expect this group to continue developing & dominating the conference. With ... 30Duck No. 2 Share Posted September 23 Great article, Alex, the WR situation for the Ducks is reminiscent of the Trojans a decade ago. Robert Woods in the Tez role, Marqise Lee as Evan Stewart, along with George Farmer, Nelson Agholor. Ducks have better TE's than the Trojans did.
Charles Fischer Administrator No. 3 Share Posted September 23 Alex, I completely agree with you in using Stewart to go long and throw long more often. It seems that he will either get the ball or an interference penalty at least half the time which is a great percentage on Bird-Bombs. A Duck-Buddy yesterday told me that the coaches are not utilized Taeshon Holden to his best ability, as he has already flashed great improvement over last year. If they begin throwing to him more...?? Traeshon Holden 1 1 Mr. FishDuck
Haywarduck Moderator No. 4 Share Posted September 23 If I was picking between a guy who is 6' 3" 205 lbs. and runs the 40 in 4.8 seconds or a guy who is 6' 0" 175 lbs. and runs the 40 in 4.9 seconds I would pick the bigger, faster guy. Now I think we are extremely lucky to have both of the these guys on the field, but Traeshon is a guy you seldom see lined up at receiver with those measurables. When I see him run with the ball it seems he should be playing on Sundays. I think with more looks he is going to go legendary this year. Measurables can be overtaken by heart and effort. I would love to see Stewart do just that. I just have to pick Traeshon over Stewart for now. One thing I do want to see is Oregon having dominate receivers. Fortunately we have a guy who can deliver the ball, may the best guy win and lets stretch the field, big time! 1
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 5 Share Posted September 23 Thanks, Alex, fun one to ponder. Stewart was a 5* recruit. He flashed as a Frosh at A+M and was injured in his second season. He also played on a dysfunctional team led by a dysfunctional vastly overpaid head coach. Stewart was a 5* in the portal rankings, the top-ranked WR in the portal. I have yet to see Stewart play like a 5* for OBD. Compare him to Ohio State's Frosh phenom receiver Jeremiah Smith and veteran WR Emeka Eubuka at Ohio State (the Ducks toughest on-paper opponent) and Stewart's play is not close to the level of these 2 Buckeyes. And Evan is playing with a better QB. In fairness, I'm not sure that this version of Oregon's O under Stein fits Evan's game. Until Stewart steps up, I'll put my money on Tez to be OBD's top receiver in 2024-25. And YES, I hope this team will be playing ball in 2025.

Drake Moderator No. 7 Share Posted September 23 No doubt that the offense has receiving talent. Unfortunately, that talent could not been fully utilized because of other issues. The next two games DG needs a clean pocket to finally get in sync with them. I would love to get tape that shows DG making throws to all areas of the field. Need opponents to respect those capabilities. I will be optimistic that UCLA, and MSU, are the perfect games for the team to continue an upward trajectory. 1 1

I think an injury and weight issues kept him sidelined last year. He arrived weighing 225, and he has shed weight. Not sure about his current status, but everyone wants to play, be good to see if his 5* rating is legit at this level.
kirklandduck Moderator No. 10 Share Posted September 23 There's so much talent in the WR group that I think it can't be helped that the ball has to be spread around as much as possible. That being said we should see some great individual performances in different games due to the situational matchups.
30Duck No. 11 Share Posted September 24 Just heard Joe Buck say this about playing the Kansas City Chiefs, "Any time you get Mahomes to handoff, that's a win" Micro speaking of course. The Chiefs can run the ball, so can the Ducks. But the explosive plays come from the passing game.
