JabbaNoBargain No. 3 Share Posted October 7 (edited) Going to be some 3 loss teams in the playoff imo and BSU has a shot at a top 4 seed…which would be fascinating. Edited October 7 by JabbaNoBargain
DanLduck No. 4 Share Posted October 7 Oh palease! The week after a big win (or loss) is always a potential trap game. A let down after the emotional win over UGA is not surprising, especially against yearly doormat Vandy. Losing the "mystique of the Crimson Tide"?!? Give me a break. Any mystique was with Saban. Everyone knew that, (everyone but Paul F). It's a new era of CFB. Will be much harder for any one team to be the dominate dynasty. KD is a good coach, but he is no Saban. Yet. Great win for Vandy.
Mike West No. 5 Share Posted October 7 (edited) I don't think people realize Vandy is a much better team than years past. This team is a lot like James Franklin's teams when they had Jay Cutler. You have to beat Vandy now. They don't self destruct like they used to, and they are pretty physical. The other thing, which was brought up in the NIL thread, is parity is coming to college football. I believe it will mostly come from elite players slacking more often because they're getting paid now. They're not going to be as motivated by titles or teamwork. This will allow teams like Arkansas and Vandy, even teams like Indiana and Cal to tarnish the blue bloods. I like the fact that the conferences did away with divisions. That allows teams like Rutgers and Kentucky a better shot at going 10-2. To me, that means you still have to focus on 12-0 and 11-1 because head to head matchups aren't always going to be the factor that earns teams a playoff spot. Georgia, Bama, and Tennessee are now on the chopping block. They have to go undefeated moving forward just to be in the playoff conversation. Despite this, I believe some players just won't earn their chops. That's what happens when you're too young to grasp the enormity of your responsibility to others. Happens in the NFL all the time. I just hope NIL stays private, and a collective bargaining agreement for the players only allows equal pay for all the players - in other words no individual contracts signed between the school and a player - more like employee driven contracts like the unions have with companies. I won't watch an NFL game unless it's two elite teams or the playoffs. I just don't subscribe to spoiled brats getting paid crazy money because NFL owners are stupid enough to drive the market higher than it should be ( in my opinion ). Though I do believe the owners should be paying two thirds of their expenses to players like every other business does ( it just doesn't get spread justly - you know- that market value thing). I don't want college football to resemble any aspect of the NFL. Edited October 7 by Mike West 1 1
kirklandduck Moderator No. 6 Share Posted October 7 Joel Klatt's latest video addresses his thoughts about the Alabama-Vanderbilt game. He says he expressed concerns previously about Alabama's defense and this loss confirms it. He even goes as far as calling the DeBoer/Alabama another Riley/USC with all offense and horrendous defense. OUCH!

OUCH! You know, Alabama's defense the last 6 quarters has looked like USC's. But if it's truly as horrendous, Alabama will finish 7-4.

I expect this situation to be solved. Riley on the other hand.....
MicroBurst61 No. 10 Share Posted October 7 P. "Fawn"baum Is part of the reason that there was such a "mystic" surrounding Alabama in the first place. He has been, and shall always be, the "homer" mouthpiece and "salesman" for the SEC And Alabama. (since the "early" days of the BCS). Not saying that what Was accomplished in Tuscaloosa should be...discounted, but the "hype", certaintly help "polish" the image to "mystic" levels. Which in turn helped ensure the steady flow of top recruits and assistants to Tuscaloosa each year. Transfer portal, NIL, burgeoning NFL-Lite is changing all of that. And then there is the 1 in a hundred scenario. Any two teams could meet 100 times and regardless of talent level, one of the two will win at LEAST one of those games. If for nothing but simple blind luck! This years Alabama team simply may have ran into that statistical anomoly. Kinda like OBD Almost did against Idaho. Guess it's time to assign a "new" NFL-lite team as the one carrying all the "mystic" of the sport into the future. Any takers?! (Hint: Jerry Allen can become Our P. Fawn baum! ) GO Ducks!
DuckFan93 No. 11 Share Posted October 7 Just watched the game recap coz we were at the Cirque Du Soleil show Saturday Got to say the game showed how vulnerable Alabama was, especially the defense. Or maybe Vandy with QB Pavia is vastly underrated this year. Alabama Offense has all the talents and it showed in all the crazy catches and throws, but their D simply couldn't stop a solid, but not flashy Vandy offense. Hate to say this, but the game reminded me a little bit of our loss to the rodents 4 years ago. It was hard fought, but the more talented team simply got out-hustled and muscled. Every top-5 team should watch this game as a lesson of humility.
DrJacksPlaidPants Moderator No. 12 Share Posted October 7 How many players do you think snuck out on Friday night to go party? I feel like an away game that involves an overnight stay in Nashville against the long time conference doormat is entrapment.
