Redundancy, and How Long Before You're A Duck?

Recommended Posts

In every game this year, the TV announcers are quick to point out the previous school our Duck player was at.

Doesn't matter how long he has been at Oregon, every time it's "transfer from" where ever.

How long does a kid need to play at Oregon before he's a Duck?

This is making me crazy!

Do I just need to chill? Or can tv pundits just forget about transfer portal. Do they talk like that in the pros?

'Great catch by so and so, previous Seahawk'.

And by now, everyone who has ever watched a single Duck game, knows the story of Tez and the Nix family, and that Bryce Boetcher was drafted in MLB!

Can't they dig a little deeper for stories, or am I being too sensitive?

Help me out here.

I think it’s cool that we have players transferring from all over the country to play for The Ducks, and don’t mind.

I think you make a great point....for Oregon fans.  But the number of B1G fans is staggering; the alumni of Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, etc. are so vast, that I am sure they focus the telecasts on the new eyes watching.

Something I keep forgetting is that the B1G audience is so large that they make MORE money than the SEC does.  And that is saying something!

And that is good for Oregon as our overall audience grows...even if we have to listen to the same stories over-and-over.

I hear ya. The announcers are at the game, loaded with cards full of information to sprinkle through the games. Unfortunately it's rarely updated, and now we'll all be waiting for the Tez-Bo connection. Back in the day, Keith Jackson. Verne Lundquist, didn't have filler, and John Madden of course.

At least we have stories. Wouldnt want to be a Husky or Beaver these days or a Trojan or Bruin for that matter.

I'd rather hear about the players doing charity work tutoring, or baby sitting for the coach...

The good news is we don't hear, 'wow if (insert name here) was still with the team maybe they would have won.' Instead we hear, 'wow the Ducks just reload with even better talent the next year.'

If a pundit tries to spin the transfers into a negative, don't let it affect how you feel about it. Good players want to win, and they come to Oregon to do it.

Would you want to be kicking for the beavs this year, or playing DB for the dawgs?

They kinda do this for all teams right now. I think we just hear it more with Oregon because we know our team.

Last year I became exhausted of the Bo and Tez story. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool story, but that seemed to be the only story the announcers ever told.

I think the transfer stuff is kinda interesting for the first 3-4 games of the year.

After that it gets old real fast. We're 8 games in now... They're Ducks.

I mean Nikko Reed has been with us for two years now and they still say he's a transfer for Colorado.

Thanks Charles for your perspective. We do have a lot of new eyes on our Ducks. Also, the TV crews are new to the Ducks also so this could be a longer term adjustment, especially as we are on all the major networks now. New teams weekly.

I just wish they would drop the transfer stuff. But i get it. And y'all are right, who doesnt want to be a Duck!

It's part and parcel of today's portal CFB. These talking heads NEVER shut up while making Obscure insights into the Obvious.

Way back in the day, we had 1 announcer in the booth who may have had an on-air mute spotter. If a sideline reporter tried to interview Vince Lombardi during the game, the reporter would have been punched out, run over, but definitely ignored.

THIS is what you heard between plays:  "3rd down and 4 to go." There was no video replay so no 'Upon Further Review.' No (un)Social Media so bad calls were brought up the next day in your local paper.  Also, there was no trash-talking and no showing off after scoring a TD, making a tackle, or sacking the QB you could plaster were with almost total immunity. And the B1G Guys! 240-pounders were D linemen.

Not claiming it was better, but broadcasts were more focused on football as a game instead of entertainment.

Then, Howard Cosell, Dandy Don, Keith Jackson, and other stars showed up in the booth.  One certain thing is Change.
