BIG Ten Ted Raves About the Ducks

Recommended Posts

He sees the future of the BIG Ten as green and yellow and seems pretty cool with it.

BIG TEN TED has always been a fan of the Ducks.  Loves the uniforms, logos, colors and Autzen. Calls Duck fans the best and most knowledgeable!

He mentions the history of coaches, but acknowledges Dan Lanning as the dude leading the coolest program in college football!

Thanks for sharing KK, I just watched it and was going to share but you beat me to it!  All fans of OBD need to give this one a listen!

Oregon has been the "Coolest" program for a long time now. The move to the B1G, undefeated, unanimous No.1, gives OBD a credibility boost.

Yeah, I would have to say that "Oregon" has excelled at identifying its "brand" and has positioned themselves to become the next Love em/Hate em program in all of NFL-lite.

Happy to be on the "Love my Ducks" side of the stance.

All this only reinforces why our brethren to the north (Corvallis) are in the mess they are in.   If only they had thought about cultivating their brand when Smith was leading the resurgence instead of constantly mocking Oregon.   The reality though (and they will never admit it publicly) is they are/were envious of Oregon because Oregon had smart people who decided to build the brand many years ago.

I know the common orange and black rejoinder to all this is 'well, you'd be nothing without Phil Knight'.  There is credence to that for sure BUT there are more smaller fish in the pond than big fish and Oregon has done a really good job of cultivating that segment of the fan base.

Not my intention to hijack this thread in anyway.

Ducks vs Them is a masterstroke of PR, fan base access and recruiting.

Lanning doesn't let the media see anything significant when it comes to observing practice. Warmups and some basic special teams drills is it.

Lanning also doesn't give away anything in his press conferences. Not unlike Chip Kelly, Mark Helfrich or Mario Cristobal before him. However, he does it with a  smile on his face and a charm offensive that none of his Oregon predecessors had and as a result everyone likes him a whole lot more but in terms of getting access to the program there isn't any.

But do you hear any fans complain about not having any access to the program? No... because Ducks vs Them and That Team Out West have both given the fan base unprecedented access to the program while at the same time allowing Dan Lanning to have complete control over what he does and doesn't want the public to see. There are still plenty of private team moments we never see and you often see parts of presentations or papers blurred out because he doesn't want that stuff seen.

But as fans we get a taste of the behind the scenes and recruits get a taste of the person who wants to be their head coach.

That series is an absolute boon for Ducks fans and I know I get excited to see the next installment each and every week and I am shocked by how much I learn from the program because of it.

Interesting to contemplate what programs during the same time period have flirted with "Cool" but haven't been able to sustain it.

Particularly programs, like Oregon, that did not enter the 2000's with a big winning tradition built in.

TCU and Baylor had their moments when you look at their season by season W-L record since 2000.  But, not sustained.  Others?

Clemson had a lot of seasons flirting with .500 since the Danny Ford years ended around 1990 before Dabo Swinney became coach in 2009.

Others that come to mind in the 2000's?

The Ducks accomplished this without the massive infusion of TAX PAYER $$$ required to keep our Lil brethren to the north afloat!
