Klatt: "Oregon Got Absolutely Hosed!"

Recommended Posts

It makes me feel better every time I see an article about this.

Joel Klatt didn't mince words regarding the hand Oregon was dealt by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.

Yes, it would have been better to get to 15 - 0 before getting hosed in the Natty.

Also, too bad the playoffs were expanded a year early, or years too late.

Just another scar to add to the timeline and time to move on (again).

Klatt for Kommish?

"Accountant." They count the number of dead on the battlefield after the fight.

Thanks, Joel, but you, along with thousands of others, could see THIS happening from far more than a mile away.

And the next team up to be hosed in 2025-26? TBD. 🤮

Yeah sure if we lost a close one maybe you could say we got hosed.  The way we played we probably wouldn't have beaten the 12 seed anyway.

To me it's not that we lost, it's how we played.

Not sure how that really changes with the opponent that much.  They're all still playoff teams.

I know what my old football coach said about excuses.

I'm not excusing the Ducks for losing to Ohio State due to the format. I'm blaming the format for having Ohio State as an 8 seed. For making it be advantageous for Penn State to have lost the B1G10 CCG and have been seeded with an objectively better path to the championship as No.6 than No.1 Oregon had. The problem with the format is not that Oregon got hosed it is that, and it was plain to see from the start, that No.1 had no advantages at all, which makes a complete mockery of the seeding process.

If this were the BCS it would've been Oregon vs Georgia for the title. If it were the four team playoff it would've been Oregon vs Texas and Georgia vs Notre Dame in the semifinals right now. Ohio State has a niche for making runs in innagural events.

Point taken, we all agree the current seeding method stinks. Good seeding yields the highest probability that the two best teams meet in the finals. Clearly not the case this year.

Absolutely, Oregon certainly got hosed.  The seeding was terrible and unfortunately Oregon had a bad game.  It happens even to the best of teams.

Although, as much as it pains me to admit, I’m not sure anyone would’ve beaten tOSU their last two games.  They are loaded talent wise and played by far their best games.  Their WR Smith is all but unstoppable if Howard has time to throw and plays well.  It doesn’t hurt that they have two of the best running backs in the nation also.  I hate them, but they are a very good football team when they are aggressive and playing well.  I hope they get beat, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

I don't see Ohio State being challenged in their next two games. They did not take Oregon seriously at all, in Autzen and lost by a point. No possible reason can explain the loss to Michigan. The games against Indiana & Oregon were games that Ohio State played with purpose.

I agree, but did you mean Tennessee?

I think Oregon's biggest disadvantage was the month long layoff.

I didn't mean Tennessee, just forgot about one. Ohio State beat Indiana 38-15, and that was against the COY.

Honestly, I think the biggest culprit for this seeding fiasco is osu2. If they hadn't smacked themselves in the face so hard stepping on a rake against Michigan, they wouldn't have looked bad enough to be seeded eight.

Right.  They controversially slid past TCU into the first CFP playoffs in 2014 at the last minute if I remember correctly.  After we destroyed Florida State in the Rose Bowl I was very confident we would beat Alabama for the first CFP championship -- but Ohio State beat Alabama in the semifinal, and then ... yeah.

The narrative being talked about with Oregon, is really about the playoff format. They say Oregon, I'm appreciative. But, make no mistake, this argument is about getting the powers that be to move the playoff format in 'THIS' offseason. They are trying to stir up controversy. Make it a groundswell of controversy by writing endless articles.

I believe go ahead and make it a 16 team playoff. Start the Bowl season with the first round on the 15th or so. 1/16 2/15 and so on. Games played every 10 days. Christmas eve has the Elite 8. NYD has the Final 4. The Natty around the 10th. No more than a 10 day bi-week layoff in all this.

The Blake Simms Quarterbacked, Lane Kiffin Offensive Coordinated squad. I remember the "We want Bama!!" chants that lasted for about five years.

I really hope the proposed B1G-SEC games happen, no neutral fields, H & H, Oregon-Georgia, Ohio State-Alabama. Penn State-Texas, Michigan-South Carolina, USC-Texas. SEC's bottom 3 would probably handle B1G's bottom 3.
