Reports: Oregon WR coach Junior Adams expected to take position with Dallas Cowboys

 

 

Well, this one hurts as the development in the WR room and his recruiting has been stellar. Hope DL has had enough time to pull a couple of decent candidates out of the rolodex.

This really hurts, as he is an elite recruiter. 

 

Thank goodness he has stacked the WR room for us before leaving!

 

 

Does this hurt, yes. 

 

Is this surprising? Not really in truth.

 

Last year I made a forum post on how Adams only got a one year contract extension. I thought that was a little odd at the time but I think Adams has had an eye to move on at some point and I don't think either party wanted a big contract tieing them down. 

Unfortunately tOSU has a couple days jump on OBD as they are in the market for a new WR coach after elevating Hartline to OC. Odd to think that two of the best WR rooms in the country are looking for coaches.

 

I would imagine that Dallas was looking at Adams at the same time they were talking to Samples about the RB job and that DL was aware. Have to trust DL has prepared and has a name or two in mind.

At least Bucknutt didn't pilfer Adams as their new WR coach.

Another good call by David Marsh on Oregon going small with Adams's contract extension.

 

With the House settlement and direct payment of $20.5M a year pending (😧) I expect assistant coach salaries will take a hit. Several athletic departments have made it known that the House settlement will lead to varsity sports being cut. 

 

The Big Boy CFB and CBB programs are nuts to allow House to burn down their house.

This one hurts. Not only is he an elite recruiter but an excellent developer of players. I thought he would be next up for OC if Will Stein left.

Does it though? Take away Tez and our receivers are really average. Take away portal receivers and they stink on ice. Lanning will upgrade with a recruiter and developer.

A look at the top potential candidates for the Oregon Ducks when looking to replace WR coach Junior Adams.

 

It's great that the Ducks can look to bring in either a WR or RB coach depending on which hat Samples wears next season, the two SEC coaches at the top of the list in the DucksWire article jump out to me.

Honestly when I think about it, moving Samples to WR coach/Co-OC is probably one of (if not the) reasons he stayed in Eugene.  DL and the brass would have been fully aware that both he and Junior Adams were interviewing with the Cowboys and this is how it played out.

Dameyune Craig is not currently an Oregon candidate.

 

 

Another one in the quasi "olden days" was Kasey Dunn.

I'm sure Lanning understands that while recruiting connections are important in the candidate, that the current WR's committed to Oregon want a good position coach.
