Tez will always be one of my favorite Ducks, but I think he's flying off course with this. Osu2 definitely out schemed OBD in the Rose Bowl, but I think Skill v Skill osu2 comes out ahead as well. The Buckeyes didn't take the Ducks seriously at all in first game and almost won anyway.

One thing that I think that they got right: The Rose Bowl was the de facto National Championship Game.

 

The fact that the anOSU ran over the Ducks in that game does not mean that the Ducks were not #2. Look at what happened in the Super Bowl...   Did KC deserve to be in that game? Of course they did... but it looked very similar to the Rose Bowl. Kansas City was completely overmatched in that one game.

 

Anything can happen when you have to play the game.

Jon Sousa, and 30 Duck, Spot On! In every playoff with a reasonable format since time immemorial, OBD's opponent should not have been sixth ranked TOSU but the winner of the No. 9 ranked Boise State at No. 8 ranked Indiana game. 

 

If Indiana had advanced instead of losing at Notre Dame, the B1G would have earned $8M additional dollars. This and Boise State being ranked No. 9 by the committee and 3rd vis the format, is why the Power 2 is pushing for eight assured spots in the field.

 

Thankfully, the current 12-team playoff format is on life support and will be replaced in 2026 by a more sensible format.

 

Scheme versus skill? After the Michigan loss and given another chance, it should be no surprise that the team with the best Blue Chip Roster coming into 2024 won the championship. And the Rose Bowl is not Autzen Stadium, DUH!

I still credit our one point win in Eugene to Autzen Stadium. I don't think that tOSU was prepared for our fans and the noise level. I believe that the Ohio State offense received five procedure penalties. In the rematch, to me it was clear that our DUCKS were not prepared. Oh well, six months to kick off.

I can’t imagine they didn’t take us seriously in the first game. By what standard? Did they party the night before? Is that the same reason they lost to Michigan?

 

We beat them in their place prior to the game at Autzen, it was the national game of the week, Chip was returning to Eugene with a contender, etc. If they didn’t take that game seriously they need to up the meds.

I don't think osu2 took Oregon seriously the first time because they saw Oregon as that school from the Pac-12. They had flashy uniforms, and some said that Autzen could get loud. Osu2 believed that their talent level advantage was enough to come in and get the win. My opinion of course.

I think Ohio State made a lot of silly mistakes in the first game as did Oregon. What I said before the Rose Bowl was that Oregon could win a close one but Ohio State could blow Oregon out, although I didn't see that happening. Ohio State has a ceiling that nobody could match. Their floor was losing by three to an underwhelming but talented Michigan in a rivalry game and really weird things happen in emotional rivalries. Ohio State was better off when they ran the Ryan Day offense instead of the Chip Kelly heavy rushing attack.

 

Oregon benefited from Ohio State being well dumb in the way they played defense. But Oregon made them look dumb because they exploited Ohio State in the passing game because Jim Knowles never brought pressure and Gabriel was able to have a clean pocket with time to make reads and run for yards if needed. Will Stein didn't make the proper adjustments when Gabriel was getting crunched. By the time the coaching staff made adjustments with quick hitters and putting a back to pick up the free man the game was over.

 

Ohio State did that to everyone outside of Texas. They trailed for a total of seven minutes the entire playoff and won every game by double digits. Ohio State has the talent advantage and it is amazing they lost two games. Not amazing in a good way, but they got it done when it mattered. Oregon just got the wrong opponent at the wrong time. Lanning is a man and never blamed the seeding but I will. Oregon should've been playing in a rematch, but it should've been Boise State.

I still remember predicting before the season started that the Ducks would go undefeated in the regular season given the schedule they played and that my only question mark was the OSU game. But I predicted the Ducks would win because the game was at Autzen.

 

I got a little bit of pushback when I said the Bucks would win the rematch which I thought would come in the B1G title game. I thought that the Bucks had the deeper roster and that this would be the difference by the end of the season. That said, the Bucks also put it all together in the playoffs to the point that no one could beat them. I detest OSU but have to give them credit, from the coaching staff on down, for what they were able to accomplish.

Really a fan of Tez and enjoyed his time at Oregon.

 

While probably not "kids" after several years in college, they still are pretty young dudes. I even kind of get what he was trying to say there (and probably express some frustration);

 

BUT, when you get your behind kicked like that in a game on that stage, I think about all you can do is tip your hat to your opponent.

 

If you are prepping your guys for combine interviews, you tell them to stop there. If you must say more, talk about where your own team might have fell short, not direct anything that might be perceived as a slight towards your opponent.

 

I can see little good coming from trying to change the perception of a throttling that everyone who watched saw with their own eyeballs.

What's his draft projection Jon? I know it says he wants to go to Denver and with the way Sean Peyton utilized Jimmy Graham back in the day it might be a pretty good fit.

His workout score, and these guys are tough graders, equates to 'valuable backup, possible starter.' With his workout, ESPN has him going in the 2nd round.

 

Michigan TE Colston Loveland is recovering from surgery. He was at the Combine for interviews but could not work out. He is projected to go in the 1st round, possibly 22nd to the Chargers and reunion with Harbaugh. However, Denver has the No. 20 pick and Loveland is high on the Denver board.
