16 hours ago16 hr No. I trust coach Lanning but I will admit that I was hoping to get coordinators with current multi-year proven track records of play calling success for both of the new coordinator positions. It feels good to promote from within until you find out they were not ready for the new position.Oregon is a top 10 program with the goal of a national title. Our new coaches will be going up against more experienced play callers next year while attempting to win that elusive national championship. Hopefully, his coaching hires work out again for Coach Lanning and OBD. Edited 16 hours ago16 hr by JB89
16 hours ago16 hr No. I believe both Hampton and Mehringer worked games from the booth. Unless a person was listening in on the game conversation between the coaches, one doesn’t really know who was making the calls. Both of these coaches were titled “co-coordinator” for a reason. Possibly the die was cast for them to have the inside track for their new jobs some time ago.
14 hours ago14 hr No. 1 hour ago, Grandpa Duck said:Possibly the die was cast for them to have the inside track for their new jobs some time ago.I am 90% positive that was the case for Hampton. Come to Oregon as the co-DC to become THE DC when Lupoi leaves. For Mehringer I am sure that was potentially part of the deal with bringing in Stein. He wasn't ready when Dilly left but he is probably ready now. I'll trust Lanning... Because what else am I going to do? Sit here and be mad about it? I'll probably just be proven wrong. I would also like to point out that a lot of people weren't too keen on Stein, a young up and comer from a G6 team... But he turned out pretty good.
14 hours ago14 hr No. I'm non plussed by Drew. It's like your best friend that every chick would die to be their girlfriend and instead he picks a girl that leaves a lot to be desired. You could have anybody! Why them?I hope to be proven wrong with Drew being successful, but I'm not feeling great about this.

1 hour ago1 hr No. I always believe in promoting from within if I have well qualified people, but don’t hesitate to go outside when needed. Dan seems to be of the same mindset, thumbs up!
1 hour ago1 hr No. When the coordinators left, Dan Lanning talked to the media about his goals of helping everyone in the program to meet their goals and dreams - players and coaches. How is he helping his coaches if he doesn't promote from within if those coaches are ready? If these two guys are ready and don't get promoted, they will be hired elsewhere which means we lose some good position coaches, co-coordinators, and recruiters that already buy into the culture and Dan's expectations of them. What kind of return on investment does that give DL???We all know about DL's little black book of people he would hire when the opportunity came. He has made some great hires that at the time many people questioned. Dan hasn't had to fire anyone, so I assume he is happy with who he has hired so far. Besides... the Ducks are winning!!!Dan is going to stick around as long as he keeps winning... and he is going to do whatever it takes to win... because he likes it here.
