Haywarduck No. 5 Share Posted October 9, 2022 The tough thing for a young team to do is stay in the top 10. There is something about young men reaching that level. This is why I think the game after UCLA may be the trap game. CAL, and playing at Berkley might be the trip point of the season. So far Coach Lanning has these young men building and getting better. The question is when and if they pause, ponder their greatness, and have somebody make their season with a win. Or can Dan Lanning pull off a miracle first season? I tend to think the whole ranking thing might just be, like the cover of SI, the kryptonite for this young team. High rankings get other teams to really shoot for you, and it sometimes sets up young athletes to finally let their guard down.

This might just be the best game lineup so far this year. But that's typical of most years - as the season goes on the best start playing each other.
DuckFan33 No. 7 Share Posted October 9, 2022 Interesting how the Coach's poll rankings of UCLA/Oregon is reversed in the AP poll. Looks like the coaches appreciated the Arizona win a little better and rightly so. Sure Arizona was unranked, but the way the Ducks dismantled them was a sight to behold last night and worthy of a move up in the rankings.

Lanning has had to process a few significant check marks so far this season. He's had to get the team back off the mat after being destroyed in game one. Had to defeat a top 20 team, come from behind on the road, and avoid a trap game slip up. The next one up will be winning a straight up chess match with a master. If he wins that, then the next check mark will be handling success. So far so good. 1

Both Oregon and UCLA are very likely to be top 10 when we play in two weeks as UCLA has a bye week this week as well. The drama of this matchup is HUGE! with Chip turning the Oregon job down and coming in undefeated to play first year coach Dan Lanning who is putting together a legendary inaugural season. You add in two full weeks for both teams to prepare for this game... and crazy is going to happen. ESPN Game Day is going to Tennessee next week but what do you want to bet they come to Autzen for week 8? There are other dual ranked games that weekend but this one will likely be the only dual top 10 matchup and it's going to be SPICY!
