No. 17 USC vs No. 23 Ducks: The Game for FIRST PLACE!

Recommended Posts

For you basketball junkies....fill us in as to what to look for and what we should expect.?  Arizona surprised the Trojans with a loss, and especially with all the scoring in the paint against them, and one analyst at the Pac-12 Network thought that game was a good wake-up call for USC.  Lovely.  This will be on Fox Sports 1 and no Bill Walton!  (Whew!)

From the Press Release for the Credentialed Media:

Oregon and No. 17 USC - two teams tied at the top of the Pac-12 in the loss column - meet Monday at 6 p.m. in Los Angeles
(FS1) in a rescheduled game that was initially slated for Jan. 30.

• 1 – Saturday against Utah, Oregon secured its 11th consecutive winning season, a program first. The win  also assured
Dana Altman of his 24th consecutive winning season
as a head coach; an active streak shared by only by Altman and four
Hall of Famers: Jim Boeheim, Mike Krzyzewski, Bill Self and Tom Izzo.

• 3 – Chris Duarte is one of just three players in the nation averaging at least 17.0 points and 2.0 steals per game while
shooting 50 percent from the field, and is the only major conference player putting up those numbers.

• 4 – Eugene Omoruyi has scored in double figures in 17-of-18 games this season. He is fifth in the Pac-12 in scoring at
17.2 points per game.

• 5 – Oregon’s top five scorersChris Duarte, Eugene Omoruyi, Will Richardson, LJ Figueroa and Eric Williams Jr.
have all played in the same game only two times this season, Feb. 11 at Arizona State and Saturday against Utah.

• BENCH – Under Dana Altman, Oregon has won nearly 90 percent of its games (187-21) when holding opponents below
70 points.

• BENCH – With Eugene Omoruyi scoring his 1,000th point as a collegian Feb. 13 at Arizona, Oregon is now just one of two
schools nationally with four 1,000-point scorers on the roster. Ole Miss is the other.

Eric Williams Jr. is an unsung key component to Oregon's post-season hopes.

Thanks, Charles.  We (I) need a good source for televised games.  Surprise...no PAC12 Network on DirecTV.

Go Ducks.  It would be nice if the Ducks finished high enough to get a 1st round bye in the Pac 12 tournament.

It will help a lot if Omoruyi doesn't foul out in his 3rd game in a row tonight against USC. Evan Mobley 7' center for the Trojans is the best player the Ducks will have faced this season, and the Ducks can't afford to have Omoruyi unavailable.

For what it's worth, USC will be mad, having lost to Arizona in their last game. Perhaps they'll overreact and come out trying to win the game in the first 5 minutes, that would be nice. This Ducks team is coming together, the swarming D is causing turnovers, and they aren't turning it over themselves. The Ducks have also become very, "Clutch" at the end of games. Oregon has been the dominant team in the conference under Altman, this is unfamiliar for USC. Let's keep it that way.

Need to be a lot more efficient on offense today to win.  We're still trying to figure things out.  Richardson really needs to step up.  I would like to see us attack the rim a bit more and get to the foul line.

"IF" Eugene can stay in the game and Duarte goes into a nice shooting zone, the Ducks will win this game.

Sure not a lotta time for rest after late night tough Saturday game v. Utah, and then having to travel to Downtown L A.  Trojans just have to walk next door(and avoid the gunshots).  Not exactly an even scale.  Nonetheless.....the ball doesn’t know that!  Put it in the hole!  Go Ducks!

This year’s squad is so interesting to watch. Talent. Quickness. Springs. Defensive grit at times. But it seems so difficult for them to play a complete game and click on all cylinders. I keep expecting more fast break points, more trapping takeaways and better shooting. When will these guys master the offense? Every game I imagine “this will be the night”.

Will this be “the night”? Go Ducks!

This was a difficult game to watch. We had some moments.

Yes, these games are very frustrating. At halftime the leading scorer for the Trojans had one point less than the Ducks had as a team.  It took until the last 5 minutes, and I guess credit to the Ducks for hanging in there, to make the score somewhat reasonable, outscoring the Trojans by 7 in the second half.
