Ducks pick up prediction to land commitment from USC WR Gary Bryant Jr.

It looks like some veteran playmaking could be on the way for the Oregon Ducks’ wide receiver room in the coming weeks or months.

After entering the transfer portal and making a round of visits, former USC Trojans WR Gary Bryant is set to make a decision about where he will transfer in the coming weeks or months. On Saturday afternoon, 247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins put in a prediction for Bryant to end up in Eugene.

The Ducks have a handful of talented and experienced WRs, led by Troy Franklin, but outside of the top four guys — Franklin, Kris Hutson, Traeshon Holden, Tez Johnson — there isn’t a ton of depth at the position.

Adding Bryant to the mix could be big for Oregon, as he could provide instant production to the offense. We will see in the coming weeks when he decides to announce his final decision.

The Ducks are now favored to land USC transfer Gary Bryant Jr. out of the transfer portal.

The Ducks need TEs. Would not hurt to take in Bryant but the WR room looks to be loaded.

Does anyone know how the touted OT transfer from Rhode Island is working out?

Bring in another WR that going to take time away from the development of an extremely talented group of underclassmen doesn't seem to me to be a good move.

We've heard good things about these guys are they going to stick around and wait for their junior or senior year for playing time? Personally I think there's so much talent on the team at WR that backups would start on most teams. Develop them for the future and leave the scholarship for a TE.

He is doing well, based on interviews with Coach Terry; the Texas transfer is injured and sitting out at the moment.

With Bo Nix at QB, Oregon is in win now mode. Bring in whomever can help us win a conference championship and make the playoffs. Obviously Oregon’s coaches have observed Bryant and believe that he can help the team.

Drew Mehringer indicates Ducks will look to add tight ends from the portal

Based upon comments from head coach Dan Lanning and tight ends coach Drew Mehringer, the Ducks will also be buyers during portal season.

"I've been talking with Lanning and Will [Stein] and have a really good plan going forward for that," Mehringer said of the tight end room, which is down to just two available scholarship players for the remainder of spring. "But we'd like to get somebody else in who can help us, if you know what I mean."

The comments were made moments after Lanning announced top returning tight end Terrance Ferguson would miss the final seven spring practices due to an unspecified injury.

"The good thing for us is we have a lot of guys on our roster who have played tight end as well at times. They might not be listed at tight end on our roster but that doesn't mean that they can't play tight end. So we have some position versatility with the guys we have on our team," Lanning said of the short-term tight end plans. "We're always, always, always, going to look for opportunities to enhance our program if the right people present themselves."

Former Georgia DL Bear Alexander could be transfer target for Ducks

Whenever a defensive player for the Georgia Bulldogs enters the transfer portal, ears start to perk up in Eugene, Oregon.

So on Saturday, when freshman DL Bear Alexander, a former high-end 4-star recruit announced that he was looking for a new team, some ideas started to formulate in Eugene.

Of course, the Ducks don’t necessarily have a need on the defensive line, but head coach Dan Lanning has long said that if they see a player in the portal who they think can make them better, then they are going to do what they can to try and get him.

Alexander fits that billing. Although he played in just 8 games as a true freshman, Bear broke out in the national championship game, notching two sacks against the TCU Horned Frogs in Georgia’s blowout victory.

We will see over the coming days and weeks if the Ducks end up reaching out to Alexander and trying to get him to Eugene, but this is certainly a name to be aware of.

Ducks extend offer to Wyoming transfer OL Emmanuel Pregnon

The offensive line is not a major position of need for the Oregon Ducks this off-season. After four starters from the 2022 season graduated, Dan Lanning and the team brought in both Ajani Cornelius and Junior Angilau from the transfer portal, and they boast an incredibly talented group of players at that position.

However, that did not stop the team from offering a scholarship to former Wyoming Cowboys OL Emmanuel Pregnon, who recently entered the transfer portal.

The Ducks are one of over a dozen teams to extend an offer to former Wyoming OL Emmanuel Pregnon, who entered the portal on Saturday.

I know what they are trying to do I just don't like it nor do I think it's a great approach. The win now approach rarely works in college football, teams that have been together and work together come out on top most the time.

Bryant quit the team after three games last season because he didn't get enough playing time. Those guys work out as long as you give them the ball a lot but if not they're nothing but a big distraction in the locker room. Looks like a very capable return man which we need but with the limited scholarships we have I think there's much thinner positions that need them more than the deepest WR room we've ever had.

Oregon Ducks’ ‘eyes open’ as spring transfer window opens

With the spring transfer window opening on Saturday, Oregon quickly had three players announce their departures.

More roster churn is expected with the Ducks projected to have 88 scholarship players in the fall — three over the limit.

But with two weeks of spring practice still remaining, including the April 29 spring game, Oregon also has an opportunity to host prospective transfers for official and unofficial visits.

Wyoming offensive line transfer Emmanuel Pregnon was the only player to enter the portal on Saturday to claim an offer from UO.

The Ducks are going to pursue a tight end transfer, a matter made all the more urgent with Terrance Ferguson suffering an unspecified injury that will keep him out for the remainder of spring.

“Always, always, always going to look for opportunities to enhance our program,” Lanning said, “if the right people present themself.”

It has been hard to find useful articles about Emmanuel Pregnon. The one below is the most informative I have seen. He is the only player in the portal that Oregon has offered so far.

Why Wyoming lineman Emmanuel Pregnon has become early hot commodity in spring transfer portal window

Similar to what happened during the winter transfer portal cycle with fellow offensive linemen such as Ajani Cornelius (who transferred from Rhode Island to Oregon) and Jeremiah Byers (who went from UTEP to Florida State), the 6-foot-6, 320-pound Pregnon has gone from an unknown to most people on a national level to quickly becoming one of the hottest commodities in the transfer portal.

Since entering the transfer portal Saturday, Pregnon has already received several Power 5 offers, including from Oregon, Ole Miss, UCLA, Arizona, Purdue and Illinois. Based on feedback shared with On3, there are plenty of other upper-tier teams very interested as well.

“He’s big, he’s powerful, he moves well and he has multiple years (of eligibility remaining),” an SEC offensive line coach told On3. “That’s what everybody’s looking for. I know he’s a weight room guy. He’s just yoked up. Not really any fat if I’m not mistaken. You can tell he’s got a high ceiling, a huge ceiling.”

Early transfer portal options for the Ducks to consider at TE position

At this point in the offseason, we can feel confident that the Oregon Ducks are going to add a player or two at the tight end position via the transfer portal. Going into spring ball, the Ducks had just three scholarship players in the TE room, and the top player on the depth chart — Terrance Ferguson — was just declared out for the rest of the spring season with an injury.

So what started as a position of need has now turned into a near-emergency situation for Dan Lanning and his staff.

On Saturday when talking to TE coach Drew Mehringer, he all-but confirmed that the team would look to the transfer portal to find a player or two that can contribute at the position.

“Obviously, we’re going to have to figure something out with that,” Mehringer said. “I’ve been talking with Lanning and Will [Stein] and have a really good plan going forward for that, but we’d like to get somebody else in who can help us, if you know what I mean.”

As more tight ends become available in the portal, we will keep an eye out and add them to the list.

Here are some names to know at the moment.

Ducks extend offer to North Texas tight end Var'Keyes Gumms

On Monday, the Ducks reportedly extended an offer to North Texas tight end Var’Keyes Gumms, one of the top tight ends available in the transfer portal. In one season with North Texas, Gumms played in 14 games, catching 34 passes for over 450 yards and 5 TD.

Since entering the portal on Saturday, Gumms has received scholarship offers from a number of schools, including Oregon, Utah, Colorado, West Virginia, and others.

We will see if the Ducks can get him on campus for a visit and bring him into the fold, but landing a player like Gumms would be a big help for an Oregon team that needs depth at the TE spot.

Top rated transfer portal prospect Gary Bryant locks in commitment date

Former USC wide out Gary Bryant, the No. 1 rated prospect per 247Sports Transfer Portal Rankings has set a commitment date.

Bryant will announce on May 13 at a family gathering in Riverside, California. He named a final five of Arizona, Miami, Oregon, Texas A&M and UCLA but the main two that we're hearing are pushing hardest right now are the Ducks and Aggies.

“I have a great relationship with coach (Junior) Adams (WR coach) and took an official visit to Washington in high school too because of him. He’s a great guy and a great coach. He hit me up right away when I was in the portal and just kind of said, ‘let’s do this, get over here.’ It’s all love over there and I know he’s someone that can push me and help me get to the next level.”

He's a player we've always liked a lot and feel he has the talent to be an immediate impact player wherever he winds up. He's an ideal slot receiver that you can move around and he's very good in the punt/kick return game as well.

He's an explosive route runner and very good with the ball in his hands. He can stretch the field and get deep and has always been very natural as a pass catcher.

Updated list of linebackers for Oregon to consider in the transfer portal

Even before linebacker Keith Brown announced over the weekend that he would be entering the transfer portal and leaving the Oregon Ducks, linebacker was a position of relative need for Dan Lanning’s defense.

While you have a lot of talented players, there isn’t an exorbitant amount of depth. With guys like Jeffrey Bassa, Jestin Jacobs, and now — without Brown — Jamal Hill leading the way, and unproven players like Devon Jackson, Harrison Taggart, and Elijah Williams behind them, it’s easy to see that the Ducks could stand to add a player or two to the LB room.

That was the case before Brown entered the portal, and it’s been turned into a more dire need since the roster move.

Fortunately for Oregon, there are a number of really solid options available in the transfer portal. While more players will continue to enter the portal and eventually come off of the board, the Ducks will likely reach out to a handful of guys who they think can improve their roster instantly.

Here are some players that I think the Ducks might try and target.

North Texas TE transfer Var'Keyes Gumms announces college decision

The Oregon Ducks still have a big question to answer when it comes to what they’re going to do at the tight end position in the 2023 season.

After starter Terrance Ferguson went down with an injury earlier in this spring season and will be held out until this fall, it’s been made clear that Dan Lanning and Co. are looking hard at the transfer portal in order to find a TE who can help their depth.

The top option, North Texas TE Var’Keyes Gumms, announced on Sunday that he would be transferring to the Arkansas Razorbacks, choosing them over the Ducks.

The Ducks will continue to look at the portal over the next week before it closes again on April 30th. In the mean time, they will also continue to develop both Patrick Herbert and Kenyon Sadiq while hoping that Ferguson can make a quick recovery and be back in time for the season to start this fall.

Top Transfer DT Bear Alexander Announces Transfer Decision

Top Transfer defensive tackle Bear Alexander is heading to the West Coast, where he will join the USC Trojans.

The Texas Longhorns were one of many programs interested in the services of recent Georgia Bulldogs transfer defensive tackle Bear Alexander, who entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, and immediately became a hot commodity.

And on Sunday, Alexander made his final decision, committing to the USC Trojans over Texas, Miami, Colorado, Oregon and Penn State.

Alexander, who played for four different high schools in as many seasons as a recruit, has now moved to his second college program in two years - making it six different programs in the last six years for the 6-foot-3, 325-pound run-stopper.

In his lone season with Georgia, Alexander had nine tackles, and two sacks, with two pass deflections, with one of those sacks coming in the Bulldogs' 65-7 national title win over TCU.

UTSA star WR Zakhari Franklin is available; Can Will Stein and the Ducks land him?

There are a lot of very talented wide receivers currently on the Oregon Ducks roster, from Troy Franklin to Tez Jonson; from Kris Hutson to Traeshon Holden.

That doesn’t mean that head coach Dan Lanning, and particularly offensive coordinator Will Stein don’t want to add more if they have the ability, though. Lanning has consistently said this spring that they will always look to add more talent if it becomes available.

It just so happens that one of the most talented players in the nation just became available via the transfer portal, and the Ducks’ offensive coordinator might have as good of a relationship as anyone in the nation.

Former UTSA Roadrunner’s wide receiver Zakhari Franklin entered the transfer portal over the weekend, becoming one of the hottest names on the open market. Franklin leaves UTSA as the school’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.

Will Stein spent three seasons with Franklin at UTSA, where the WR saw a massive breakout, scoring 37 touchdowns over those three years.

The Ducks are clearly in the market for a transfer portal WR, which has been highlighted by their recruitment of former USC WR Gary Bryant Jr., who is projected to commit to the Ducks in the coming weeks.

Might they also try and add Franklin as well?

Oregon Offers Louisiana Lafayette Cornerback Trey Amos

Oregon has extended another offer to a player in the transfer portal.

On Monday, the Ducks offered former Louisiana Lafayette cornerback Trey Amos. The redshirt junior entered the transfer portal earlier in the day on Monday.

Amos is 6'1", 197 pounds and is originally from New Iberia, Louisiana. He played his high school football at Catholic-New Iberia High School.

The former Ragin Cajuns defensive back spent three seasons at UL Lafayette and played in 34 games. He recorded 59 total tackles, 46 solo tackles, 14 pass deflections and one interceptions.

During the offseason the Ducks hired offensive analyst Antonio Parks to their coaching staff, who is originally from the Bayou State.

Oregon has already added a couple of defensive backs via the transfer portal this offseason. Safety Evan Williams came over from Fresno State, safety Tysheem Johnson came over from Ole Miss and cornerback Khyree Jackson joined the squad from Alabama.

Demetrice Martin signed five cornerbacks from the high school ranks in 2023 but it looks like this coaching staff isn't going to be complacent and isn't going to hesitate adding more players from the portal if they feel like they have the right fit.

How the potential addition of Gary Bryant Jr. could impact the Ducks; offense

Since the transfer portal opened a few weeks ago, many college football players around the country have packed their bags and begun setting up shop with their new teams. The Oregon Ducks have had some notable signings in the portal this offseason, such as Jordan Burch and Ajani Cornelius, and they added TE Casey Kelly from this most recent portal window as well.

Even though most of the high-quality transfer targets have already signed with new schools, there are still a few gems that have yet to be picked up.

One of those is Gary Bryant Jr, a former 4-star WR that was at USC for three seasons before deciding to it was time to move on. Although he hasn’t announced where he’ll play his 2023 football, 247Sports’ “crystal ball” predicts Bryant to sign with the Ducks later this May.

Oregon extends offer to former Colorado Buffaloes tight end

Prediction: Oregon Poised for Transfer Portal Addition

The transfer portal has been one of the biggest wrinkles in college football in recent years, but even more so between the 2022 and 2023 college football seasons.

Every school has a different approach when it comes to additions and departures, but one thing's for sure: adding the right players can change the outlook for your season in a hurry.

The Ducks have already added a number of big names this offseason including wide receiver Traeshon Holden, offensive tackle Ajani Cornelius and edge rusher Jordan Burch to name a few.

That number should grow this weekend, as USC wide receiver transfer Gary Bryant Jr. is set to announce his college commitment on Saturday May 13. The buzz is that he'll likely decide between Oregon and Texas A&M, with Miami standing on the outside looking in.

I'm predicting that Bryant will commit to Oregon and become a Duck.
