First Coaching Domino Falls: Franklin to VT
Ha, from one college mountain town otherwise in the middle of nowhere, to another (even smaller, yay verily tiny) college mountain town in the middle of nowhere. Welcome to Bleaksburg coach! Actually I really like Blacksburg, it's beautiful (not unlike Eugene, just smaller than Eugene) but it is tiny and kind of remote (not to be confused with Remote, OR, just 12 miles east of Myrtle Point).

Oregon Has Found Its Offensive Identity
Been saying it since the Penn St. game, we are a smash-mouth running team that kills teams off the play-action and vertical passing game. The thing that frustrated me most during our one loss was Stein not committing to this when it was working, we started getting cute and kept putting ourselves behind the eight ball. Commit to the run and pass in order keep teams honest. We can certainly have success in the passing game, but our identity is running the ball in a multitude of ways and formations. Best thing that Stein has done this season is the multitude of looks we give the defense. We can go 5 wide, we can go 2-1, 2-2, or 1-3 personnel, and at the same time have success in different ways in these sets. The RBs give different looks, the TEs can go legit 3 deep. The O-line is the best run blocking unit we've had under Lanning. We just need to get healthy at the WR position.

Oregon Has Found Its Offensive Identity
Great read on how weather forced the Ducks to discover their offensive self. While you could also say an offensive identity may change every week depending on the next defense they see, the kind of confidence built against Iowa and Minnesota remains the foundation.

Now we dont have to worry about VT beating any ranked teams.

Beavis...FORGET IT. We Are NOT COMING BACK....
Damn. You got me there, as I am conscious of proper punctuation...but as an admitted Duck who is "nobility-impaired," you put me in a tough spot. Especially since there are few as petty as I, and I haven't even started my denigration of USC yet this week!

And Kiffin and his family have been at UF and LSU in the last week. The carousel is ramping up!

Oregon Has Found Its Offensive Identity
With healthy receivers this team becomes one of the kinds of teams that is so hard to defend. Some teams set up their passing with their running game. Others set up their running game with their passing game. The Ducks can do it both ways. When a team loads the box against the run, this team can go down field with efficiency (a lot of teams pass down field trying to get lucky, not Oregon), when the D is playing off the line, trying to stop the pass this team can punish them with the run. Being able to do both of those makes this team very hard to defend.

Beavis...FORGET IT. We Are NOT COMING BACK....
Do they mean UCLA? Because Oregon and USC are doing fine this year and Washington is above average. and UCLA is getting a new coach to try and revamp their program.

Tis' the Season to Dump on the Ducks? - Week 13 Games and Broadcast Information
Gotta play your schedule. A brief look at the Ducks out of conference schedule, the only part of the schedule we have control over. Montana State - A pretty good FCS team, but an FCS team. But most FBS teams play an FCS team and the result is that the FCS team is going to lose. Oklahoma State - A Power 4 program and usually a pretty good program. They were not good this year and there is nothing the Ducks could have done about that but scheduling them wasn't inherently scheduling a cupcake. Oregon State - Well... a G6 team and most teams schedule a FCS team, a G6 team, and a P4 team. Oregon State became exceptionally bad this season. As for our conference schedule, as which we don't have any control over... we miss two of the worst teams in the conference in UCLA and Purdue which Indiana and Ohio State both got UCLA this season and Indiana gets Purdue yearly. Rutgers and Northwestern are both ok teams and Iowa is better than their record... they after all have three of their four losses to teams ranked ahead of them.

On To USC
And yet, USC is featured in the lyrics of the college gameday intro. song while Oregon is just one of many teams mentioned as part of the list…

On To USC
Excellent point. For players from So Cal, they know just about everyone they know will be watching the game and they will want to show out.

Autzen seems to have pretty much been a problem for opposing teams for close to 20 years, based on the record...

Beavis...FORGET IT. We Are NOT COMING BACK....
OBD and USC are in the committee's top 25. Depending on what the Grapevine Gurus come up with tomorrow evening, SC at Oregon could be the only top 25 vs top 25 matchup this weekend. UW has also been in the committee's top 25 this season. Oregon is coming back? For a peanuts on the B1G dollar media deal with CW and USA? It won't happen, but I could see OBD, UW, UCLA, and USC joining Cal, Stanford, ASU, Arizona, CU, and Utah in a true Pac-10. Perhaps for all sports other than football? However, I think the B1G private capital deal will happen. If so, B1G teams that participate in the deal, and Oregon does not appear to have any objections to the deal, will pledge their collective media rights through 2046. The B1G would add Notre Dame if available, but that's it. The deal calls for 'the lender' to receive 10% of the conference's gross revenue through 2046. No program that doesn't immediately contribute to the B1G's revenue stream need apply. What value would Beavis and Wazzu bring to the bottom line? ZIP. This is more of Canzano's, 'I need the subscribers' butt kissing.

On To USC
Hopefully the SoCal of it all will get a lot of Ducks hyped up. I mean we can never match the level of Hype that Coach Subprime inspired but the California connection is a biggie for some players.

Beavis...FORGET IT. We Are NOT COMING BACK....
I, for one, would be happy to have UO play osu* if they agree to pay us our fair share of their looted Pac 12 funds. *Mr. Fischer, please note that capitalizing of either uw or osu reflects a certain level of decorum and respect that a truly petty Duck fan should never rise to, in my opinion.

Well, win out and that's that. Lose and you give up control.

Anyone pointing to Dan Lanning’s very first game as a head coach against a loaded Bulldogs team as evidence of anything meaningful need to try harder.

Beavis...FORGET IT. We Are NOT COMING BACK....
Note also how stupid the question was framed by a Beavis fan....west coast teams being doormats? Oregon won the Big-10 football title last year, won the most B1G championships of any Big-10 team. Of the five teams from the Big-10 in the current top 25....three are from the original 14 B1G teams, and HALF of the four west coast teams who joined them are in the top-25. Stupid is, as stupid says? Oregon State fans talking about others being doormats?

On To USC
"This will mark GameDay’s first visit to a USC game since the 2016 season." "The Oregon Ducks have been featured on ESPN's College GameDay 11 times from the 2016 season through the current 2025 season." (USC will be number 12.) No wonder we live in their head rent free. There is nothing worse to their fans than simply being irrelevant while we steal the spotlight over and over... This will be our 3rd Game day appearance this year. I expect us to act like we've been there before. We'll see if USC can handle it.

On To USC
We get a decent amount of pressures, we just don't get home for sacks as our strategy is to collapse the pocket without giving any escape routes to the QB.

Beavis...FORGET IT. We Are NOT COMING BACK....
Good gosh, I cannot believe the major drugs taken by John Canzano and the fans of Beavis. Below is some major "Hopeium, and Copium." Q: Former Pac-12 teams become doormats of the Big Ten, what do they do? Take the Big Ten cash and reboot over and over again? Or leave? JC: The cash functions like glue in your question. Those schools would stay in the Big Ten and get their teeth kicked in if enough money is there. There would be some private regrets, but they’d publicly justify it by pointing at the revenue in the budget and saying, “We’re in the right conference.” In the last couple of weeks, I’ve talked with some insiders who are still spitballing about what happens when/if the ACC breaks up. Stanford and Cal have nowhere else to go. The Big Ten isn’t taking them. Would those two ever return to the Pac-12? How much time would have to pass? Would they seek refuge in the Big 12? Or would something else form? But if those legacy schools did return to the Pac-12 someday, would UCLA think twice? Discuss. Yeah...I Want to Join the NEW Mountain West.

Oregon Has Found Its Offensive Identity
In part because we only needed to run for that many yards. The run game did what it was supposed to do... get chunk yardage and set up the pass. But Moore's passing game was so efficient that it did kinda skew the numbers. He was 27/30!!!! So with 30 pass attempts, a reasonable number, he completed 27 of them and many of those were vertical passes that ate up massive yardage. Think of that Sadiq pass(s) that put the Ducks on the goal line. I think this offense is built around around a 70% completion rate. That would translate to Moore going 21/30 which might need more production out o the run game in some more potential 3rd and short situations, which we had very few.

Oregon Has Found Its Offensive Identity
Thanks David. So to clarify a little bit, we can do damage running or passing out of any formation, and now that we are using play action more, the front seven of the defense can't commit to run or pass until QB and RB are past the mesh point. While they are frozen for about half a second, the OL QB and RB are executing the offense at full speed. Football may be a game of inches, but inches come from motion (distance per time), so it's also a game of milliseconds, and 500 of them is a big advantage. An extra half second for Moore to survey the field would have a massive impact on yards per drop back.
