Whit's as fit as the proverbial fiddle and a perfect 'bridge coach' for Michigan, and a hire by AD Warde Manuel's who is trying to save his job. Four years from now, in 2030, CFB and the Big Ten, with a new media deal kicking in, could be structured very differently from what we see today. Michigan was instrumental in sinking the B1G's private capital deal, not wanting to be tied to anything through 2046. Not having Michigan, and to a lesser extent, SC, on board with the capital infusion is Tony Petitti's biggest muff to date. As you so note, Whittingham is squeaky clean. Looks like an 'old friend' is in line to be Michigan's next coach. Whit is 63 going on 40, if that, and his style of play on both sides of the ball fits Michigan. And is a pain to compete against. My apologies to Gat and others for questioning Whit's desire to continue coaching. Not a lot of ski slopes near Ann Arbor, but he won't be the only guy with a motorcycle. Give it another 6-6 year and we’ll see where he lands. Cal actually wasn’t far off from having a good year and they still fired the coach because being close has been Wilcox’s theme almost every year he’s been there. I could totally see Sag playing it out to see if this change gets them over the hump.

One of the first things Tosh did after accepting the job was travel to Hawaii and re-recruit Sag. Under Tosh, I hope the Cal D won't have late-game, last-play meltdowns like it did on Christmas Eve, while blowing a 21-point lead vs. Hawaii, losing 35-31 on a blown coverage TD pass with ten seconds left, and Hawaii's starting QB out of the game.

Not worried about the 9:am start. It's my understanding that they start practice at 9:am anyways. Schools out so travel shouldn't be an issue as far as needing to devote other time to studies. Don't know when they're arriving but you would think a few days before would be enough time to get used to some sunshine. These are 18-22+ year olds. Different energy level than most on here. I'm more worried about the focus from the OC and DC.

Apparently Sagapotule is staying with Cal next year, which seems like insanity since any top flight team without a returning QB would pay a pretty penny for. I have to think Tosh has been using his recruiting magic to retain the best pieces of this Cal team, and can improve it through recruiting going forward.

My biggest concerns are: Ducks flying south for the winter Dante Moore against an elite pass rush. The refs.. Flying to warm weather on the opposite side of the country and playing at 9am isn't the stuff fast starts are made of, but I'll be thrilled if we come out playing 110 percent. Dante Moore has played better against pressure since Indiana, but we still can't say for sure he won't regress against the #1 pass rush defense in the country. With a game this close and where yardage on offense will come at a premium I think the Refs hold our season in their hands. If they are flag happy we are doomed. TTU 1st downs on PIs and drive killing 3rd down penalties against our offense would probably prove too much. Glass half full thoughts: I think DL and the OL are absolutely sick of hearing how good TTU's DL and LBs are. That they can pressure the QB just rushing 4 and that they have the best run defense in the country. The OL demoing the jerseys was a statement of intentions. Hopefully with another week and a half Kory Moore is back to full form and Evan Stewart is available at least as a decoy. We really need our WR to be blocking lights out this week. Getting explosive plays on the edge, including bubble screens will be critical.

I don't care how good your pass rush has been; this man is going to slow it down.

I watched much of the Cal/Hawaii game. Was kid of rooting for Cal just because of the old PAC 8/10/12... But boy what an exciting finish for Hawaii!

I watched the replay of the Hawaii/Cal game very early Christmas morning.

Renfro ran a 9.6 100 YARD time. That's a significant difference. Former Duck TE Russ Francis also ran a sub 10 second 100 yard dash in HS. Theoretically, there is about a 1-1.25 second difference in the times required to complete the 100 meters.

NJDuck I believe that providing a college football player an opportunity to excel in a better location than where that player is presently playing can hardly fall into a category of theft. OBD would simply be doing the young student-athlete a favor.
