Will Nebraska Ever Be Back?
The contributors have underestimated the natural beauty of the state of Nebraska. When I was across the country in my youth, I noticed a sign along the freeway in eastern Nebraska. It informed drivers that they would notice driving westward across the state that the type of grass growing alongside the road changes. No disrespect to Coach Rhule, but if they want to return to national prominence, they must implement three changes this season: Replace the entire coaching staff with artificial intelligence. Change the too familiar red jerseys (such a cliche) to Pantone 448C, a color that I guarantee will set them apart. Replace their marching band with a marching opera company.

I think its way to early to tell who is elite just yet. Ducks are not going to be tested until the Penn State game.

Let's Talk About Our New Offensive Scheme.
Yesterday the O and the D were vanilla by design. DL and company were way more interested I putting young guys into live game scenarios to get a read on their ability to contribute to the team. I hope they were impressed, I was! I agree that we won’t show much more of our offense (or defense) until the Penn State game. We don’t need to dig deep four our next few opponents. Go Ducks!

Let's Talk About Our New Offensive Scheme.
Before Jordan James became the starter and was the backup to Bucky....they used him as the power-back inside the five yard line. It sure looks like Jordan Davison is filling that role this year!

"Omigosh ... The Beavers Looked BAD." Really? Didn't they just look like the Beavers???

Maybe but that Miami team was filthy.

Malik Benson Needs His Own Discussion.
My understanding was that he was making solid progress last season until injuries derailed him. Hopefully he should pick back up that progress after a bit of time. He did have a solid 40 yard grab yesterday so that's a start.

Omigosh...Beavis Looked BAD
I think the only ones spinning Cal as being good are Beavis fans in denial. Cal will be lucky to go 6-6, I think. Their QB s promising, but didn’t really do THAT much after the 1st quarter. Cal destroyed OSU last year and still had a bad season.

Malik Benson Needs His Own Discussion.
I think there is a reason the QBs don't throw Kasper's way very often. He struggles to finish. Routes, catches and run after the catch. It's great he's so tall, but the downside of that is I don't think he has the coordination and balance required to be a great receiver. His target to completion ratio including spring games has to be the worst I have ever seen. That being said, I hope he does well when he plays, unlike the rest of his career at Oregon to date.
-
Omigosh...Beavis Looked BAD
If the Beavos were that bad (and from the stat board it certainly looks like it), I'd probably take Cal's offensive performance with a grain of salt. They barely cleared 360 yards of total offense after all.

Watching the Fuskies Game and Oh Boy…
Well they finally pulled away in the last quarter (not as impressive as it sounds). Reading through the game thread on a certain Fuskies fan site it grew to over 300 comments with the vast majority gnashing their teeth and freaking out. The most recent ones were doing mental gymnastics about how the Puppies actually "dominated" the game...riiiiiiiiiight.

Yahoo's Misery Index
Standing in line to get an overpriced beer when the Duck lost his head. The Duck losing his noggin is not very high on the “misery index” when you compare it to DeBoer’s buyout of $70 million. If they choose to shell out the $$$ for a buyout, the coaching carousel starts, and I think many coaches would be reluctant to jump on. Every fan base in the nation is enjoying the current misery of Bama fans.

I'm glad the freshman are getting some run early. It gives them valuable on field experience and builds their confidence. Remember back in the Chip Kelly says where the score was so far out of reach so early that nearly every game the 3rd and 4th stringers would have at least a full quarter on the field which prepped them well for the next season. That is a recipe for consistent long term success.

2024 Oregon - Montana State Post-Game Reports, Interviews, Etc.
The Oregon Ducks are finally back, and after their dismantling of the Montana State Bobcats, it looks like they’re out for vengeance. The Duckssuffered a crushing defeat in the Rose Bowl last season, but it’s clear Dan Lanning wanted to send a message to the nation that his team isn’t going anywhere. True freshman running back Jordon Davison carried the offensive heavy lifting in the red zone today, scoring all three of his touchdowns inside the 10-yard line. He didn’t get the ball much today, but when he did, he made the most of his opportunities by bulldozing defenders and willing his way into the end zone. Jordon Davison wins Ducks Wire Player of the Game after 3-TD performance in Week 1

He would be definitely in the running at this moment, I'd also add Kasper as a possible WR3 as well.

Let's Talk About Our New Offensive Scheme.
I believe the vanilla offense is by design. We should have no problems beating the next 3 opponents with this exact game plan. Why show anything if we do not have to. For a little reference for next game, Oklahoma State beat UT Martin 27-7, last year Montana State beat the same UT Martin 49-12 at the end of the year. I believe this is the transitive property which works in math but not always in sports and comparing last years teams to this years does not always work out. But there is some correlation. On the other hand showing unique sets in a game makes the next opponent have to practice for that and take up practice time. (Didnt Chip used to do this? How much practice time did other teams take up for Chips 2 pt conversion formations?) What do you think is better? Showing nothing and surprising a team or show a lot of formation to make them scheme for each one?

Let's Talk About Our New Offensive Scheme.
The coaches did what they needed to do on offense. Dante Moore needed passing reps, and it was good to have him run a two minute offense in the game. Was it needed? Not really. Stein mentioned that because the talent is different this year vs. last year, his play calling would change. Having a QB, RBs, and receivers that can attack all levels of the field is important. We have the ability to play a smash mouth type running game, or switch to a personnel package that can spread the field, and attack the edges, or downfield. I think Stein is trying to see what our players can do in these early games, and then use players that create match up problems against better defensive competition.

Jackson had some injuries during camp I remember seeing somewhere. Probably held out for the game to ensure he heals up properly and is ready to go when conference play arrives.

Malik Benson Needs His Own Discussion.
We really need a solid 3rd option at receiver in addition to Bryant and Moore. Instead we got an elite receiver, Malik Benson. Yes, elite. He was merely good with an elite ceiling arriving at Oregon in the spring, and he is now elite. The size, the speed, and now the agility, having looked like losing 10-15 pounds of baby fat since the spring game. Ross Douglas has also clearly been helping him in the other facets of his game, running crisp routes and positioning himself well relative to defenders. Moore has clearly recognized this, by targeting him more than any other receiver. It is just a sample size of one game, half a game really, and maybe he gets cases of the dropsies, and plays uninspired for stretches of games, but if he doesn't, look out, he will be as good or better than Troy Franklin. I'm really excited about him.
