Opinion: Why the Big-10 is Falling Behind in Baseball...
30Duck replied to sports fan's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Made some good points in the article. I don't know, maybe there's a huge lacrosse fan base? I know we all want to watch football, but... First, Big Ten Network and Fox Sports 1 could showcase more baseball games instead of constantly pushing old football game reruns. -
In my world (and I cut the cord years ago), this only has meaning if/when it becomes the only way to get ESPN.

I don't see the Wisconsin game from last season that just looks like an L. Is it smart to predict back to back undefeated regular seasons for OBD? Probably not. But... I believe Novosad knows the offense better-he's got a year on Moore. I don't believe Novo's arm is as strong as Gabriel's. to be fair, at present, he probably would perform close to Gabriel's numbers because he is a mobile QB. But I'm pretty sure the offense would button up more than it did last year because Novo doesn't have the arm strength to control his passes downfield like Gabriel could (and much less than Moore can). I see Moore as a project this year however. For one, he doesn't calibrate his arm strength to fit the talent level in the WR room. He can throw anything to Sadiq, and probably to WR Moore, but he hasn't adjusted very well to the other receivers. I can tell he favors Sadiq because Sadiq can run to just about any pass Moore throws. Moore holds the ball longer for everyone else, which to me means he isn't calibrating his strength to other WRs' speed(s). Moore hasn't figured out his "off speed pitches" so to speak. He relies on his fast ball too much. So both have very precise skill sets to work on, which is why the position hasn't been settled yet. The offense absolutely has to do what Gabriel did to Penn State-score 45. It is my belief this year's championship game will look like the two Alabama vs Clemson Natty games. Whoever scores 40 plus wins. Neither QB has shown they can do that yet. I suspect the coaches believe Moore has the higher upside in that department. I believe Novo can time deep passes sooner than Moore figures out how to use his arm strength effectively with all the WRs. I don't believe the coaching staff knows how to teach Novo how to get the ball deep (most don't-they believe natural ability matters more, but Georgia won two Nattys with a QB with similar skills to Novo).

I love YouTube TV…….my favorite feature is Key Plays. Easy to catch up on several games on a busy weekend and watch the end at crunch time.

I really question trying to compare Dante to Bo Nix. Nix was a three-year starter from an SEC school when he came to Eugene. I expected him to flourish, told Y'all you were going to like him, and sent Charles a clip of Nix highlights to back my enthusiasm. He took his lumps whenever he played the Dawgs, but he is hardly the only QB to suffer that fate. 30 Duck nicely summarized what Dante faced as a raw freshman at UCLA. The biggest thing he and Bo have in common is that they were both highly touted 5-star recruits. And the Bo Nix you saw in Eugene was highly experienced--Dante isn't and is very much a question mark in my opinion. If the OC stays within Dante's skill set and doesn't put too much on his shoulders, he will probably so just fine. But lack of experience could show up in pressure packed situations in a way Bo Nix was much better prepared to weather. I am rooting big-time for Dante this coming year and I guess we'll all see what transpires. Go Ducks!

Some people don’t care about winning. But! No one wants to be the first looser.

30 dollars for one stand-alone is higher than the Hulu+Disney+ESPN+ bundle by ten dollars. It's more expensive than Sling, Paramount, Max, Netflix. Stand alone subscriptions are nice because you can pick and choose what you want, but ESPN alone isn't worth half of what you would be paying for your basic traditional cable subscription. Most of the sports they show are pretty low quality grade imo. I'm not paying that much for the CFP Playoff and some select SEC or ACC games in the Fall. I'd just pay the 70 to satellite or cable and get Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS and ESPN.

Thanks Jon, and while that is just another opinion...it is a curious one. Oregon State is No. 7 Seed, and could host a Super-Regional, while Oregon is a No. 13 Seed? And if that bracket held up...there would be FIVE B1G teams in the tournament? Beside Our Beloved Ducks they have UCLA as expected, (A No. 9 Seed, and who we won the series with?) and they have Iowa, Michigan and USC? Fun to watch for over the next two weeks...

Each website has their own sports writers and opinions as to where each school should be ranked. ON3 has Oregon as a # 13 seed, with Oklahoma, Cal Poly and Murray State. On D1 Baseball, they also list Oregon as a # 13 seed. Joining them is TCU, Cal Poly and Fairfield. With one more week of the regular season and then the conference tournaments, we'll just have to wait a couple of weeks to see where Oregon ends up. Just keep winning. Go Ducks!

Depends on what the consumer signs up for. When I had Comcast cable, I was locked into a TWO year contract. I could opt out anytime, but I would not receive a refund. I now have YouTube TV and I have most of the bells and whistles for sport events. And it's not a contract. I pay monthly and can cancel anytime. And a perk with YouTube, I have unlimited recording options.

I understand the umbrage over PO play-in games. However, as it so happened last season, both the champ game winner, Oregon, and the loser, PSU, made the PO field. The 4th-place B1G finisher, Ohio State, made the field. With a 16-team field, the loser of the play-in game, B1G representative No. 2, is going to be highly seeded in a 16-team postseason tournament, a tournament with no 1st round byes. Rarely, if ever, will the team that finishes 2nd in the B1G be seeded lower than No. 8, and with a 1st round home game. Come 2026, seeding will equate with the PO committee's final ranking. Oregon got a double dose of format blues last season. With a four-team PO still in effect, in the semifinals, OBD rematches with PSU, and Georgia rematches with Texas. Ohio State is still debating whether to fire Ryan Day. In any and likely every postseason tournament ever played anywhere, No. 1 Oregon plays the winner of No. 9 Boise State at No. 8 Indiana in the Rose Bowl. Likely wins the game and moves on. With mega-conference in-conference strength of schedule being all over the place, I think the B1G team in second place after the 11th game of the regular season, could well be better than a first-place team that played a far easier conference schedule. Consider OBD's schedule in 2027. OBD plays at Michigan and hosts Ohio State and Penn State. OBD also draws Iowa at home, and plays at Nebraska, UCLA, and UW. 6 home games with an OOC game in Waco, Texas against Baylor. I have not parsed all of the 2027 B1G schedules, but if Oregon is second in the conference standings with this schedule after game 11, I believe OBD will be more than worthy of a shot at the conference championship. If every team had the same in-conference strength of schedule, then I'd also be against the play-in format. I also do not know how much more revenue the B1G will receive with a play-in format compared to a one-off championship game that is likely to feature the B1G's biggest brands. But it is odds-on to be more money, or Petitti and Sankey would not be pushing a 16-team field and play-in games. Respectfully submitted, JJ.
