  2. The Oregonian flipped beat coverage with Crepea moving from the Ducks to Beavis, and Ryan Clarke from Beavis to the Ducks. Perhaps not a bad thing to do periodically if you are a sports editor. Have been disappointed in Clarke's coverage so far. He does not seem to have the "inside sources" that Crepea had, and Clarke has minimal Tweets on his X account regarding Ducks athletics. Simeon Birnbaum set a new NCAA 1500 record this past weekend. Crepea would have had that on X, nothing from Clarke. That is just one example of what I'm observing so far. I don't think Fentress coverage has changed much.
  3. Oregon Ducks pick up predictions to land No. 1-ranked QB in 2027 classWhile Oregon has done just fine at the position, led by elite transfers like Bo Nix, Dillon Gabriel, and Dante Moore, it appears they've now set their sights on a high school prospect they're shoving all their chips on. That prospect is 5-star quarterback Will Mencl, the No. 1-rated QB in the 2027 class, per On3. This past week, the Ducks picked up multiple predictions that they will land a commitment from Mencl, who will officially announce his college destination on Wednesday night. On Monday, On3's Greg Biggins placed a prediction for Mencl to pick Oregon, and the 247Sports Recruiting Staff placed a similar projection on Tuesday morning. Mencl will choose between Oregon, the Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Auburn Tigers. https://duckswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/ducks/recruiting/2026/04/21/oregon-football-will-mencl-prediction/89718195007/

  8. Oregon Commit Makes Big Push For 5-Star Quarterback Recruit Will MenclFive-star quarterback recruit Will Mencl has a big decision looming between Oregon, Auburn and Penn State. 9. Thanks for the post, and thanks also, David, for the update. When it comes to the press, I think Coach Lanning is following the model of mentor Nick Saban, and when it comes to the media, Kirby Smart is not loquacious. Injuries? Unless compelled to report game availability, few coaches wax eloquent on the subject. Compared to the guy at UNC, Dan is a chatterbox. One of the best with the press was Oregon grad and USC coach John McKay. The man had a terrific sense of humor.
  10. Yeah Crepea is on the Beavers beat now. Not sure why. Though I wouldn't be surprised if he choose the move himself. He may have finally learned that Lanning answers few questions, especially of his. Lanning will only give a general update of a player after the game and it's always the same, "so-and-so is doing well and we are waiting onore testing to determine the nature of the injury" Haven't had anything super severe under Lanning injury wise. If a player is out for a long time then Lanning will say that... Otherwise we won't know. Lanning does not answer questions about scheme, period. For the most part you don't get anything out of Lanning or his staff about injuries or scheme but you can get growth stories and that sort of thing. Just need to know what to ask but those questions generally aren't the things fans are dieing to know.
  11. Oregon DC Chris Hampton lays out expectations for spring game defense“I just want to see us go out there and play fast," Oregon defensive coordinator Chris Hampton said on Monday. "Go out there and play fast, play physical, play the way that we've been coached to play. Don't do anything crazy, anything that you didn’t do in practice. You know, don't do it now, because there's a crowd out there." The crowd should help elevate the intensity for the Ducks, who have played a handful of closed scrimmages thus far this spring. Oregon has a great reputation for fan turnout at spring games, routinely filling Autzen Stadium and bringing in 30,000-50,000 patrons for the event. While this level of attendance can bring out some of the beneficial nerves for players and get them used to the eyes being on them, it can also bring out some of the fun of the day. "You want to see guys go out there and just play fast, play physical, and honestly, have fun," Hampton said. "You know, this game is fun, and we talk about that, and we want the guys to go out there and enjoy the moment and embrace it.” https://duckswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/ducks/football/2026/04/21/oregon-football-spring-game-expectations-defense/89707783007/

  13. I have been watching the YouTube version of the Duck's press conferences during Spring Football. I have been curious about the new coaching staff members and must say that I have been impressed with them to a man. What they may lack in experience in their new positions, they seem to make up for in terms of charisma, culture and connection with the athletes. I fear in-game efficiency and composure as the unit blends but am pleasantly pleased with the intellect and passion of them all. Also notable in these videos is the absence of James Crepea. Previously, Aaron Fentress struck me as the most odious of the O-Live NegaDuck Journos. But James Crepea quickly eclipsed even Fentress when he showed up. I read (I think--at my age, it's possible I dreamt this) somewhere the the AD expressed displeasure with Crepea and he was shifted to the Beaver's Beat which, if true, seems a little too "on the nose." His need to demonstrate his gridiron acumen, in the form of a press conference question, was tedious and I don't miss him.
