I noticed the same thing during the game when Indiana called that timeout. Great move to get reorganized and spell your pass rushers. However, I did take issue with Cignetti on Indiana's previous drive to not put the ball in Mendoza's hands to get the first down (throwing). Whether Indiana fails throwing or running, they still kick the field goal and Miami gets the ball with 1:42 left. With that much time on the clock, I feel the timeout is low impact in college football with clock stopping on first downs. Indiana should have done everything possible to get that first down instead of the lazy handoff to burn Miami's last timeout. Willingly giving it back to Miami with 1:40+ remaining was a huge mistake in my opinion. Fortunately, it didn't cost them.

Great topic, 123. I'll wait until the dates the games will be played, to be revealed on 1/27 on BTN, 2:30 PM Pacific. Will OBD have back-to-back road games, back-to-back trips East? The week Oregon travels to Columbus to play Ohio State, and what opponents and where the games are played the week prior? Will we see Michigan in Eugene, followed by Ohio State? Will there be a Saturday game in the Central or Eastern time zones, followed by a Friday night home game against a team coming off an idle week, like Minnesota last season? But against an opponent more dangerous than the Gophers. Also, with a late Labor Day, 9/7/26, there will only be one Bye in 2026. Will OBD's Bye come too early, too late, or be just right? (Only Goldilocks and B1G HQ know. 😁) I agree with GODUCKS15, except for the trip to Columbus. I think OBD will be favored in every game, with the possible exception of the game at USC. BLAST BOISE!

I'm a homer as much as the rest of you, and I do feel our team will get better. But, in this new era of CFB, every team has a real chance of getting better. So, who's to say these other teams don't get significantly better. If they do, our Ducks may not get any farther in the playoffs than this year. I'm just grateful to be in the hunt year in and year out. It is what makes being a Duck fan so fun. We know it WILL happen. We just don't know when. Go Ducks!

Which is probably the most frustrating thing about Lannings tenure so far. He had such good LB play at Georgia and we have some really explosive athletes like DJack and Wyatt. It almost feels like Lanning has been trying to morph into a 3-3-5 base but never has the personnel so we end up running a hybrid of a 3-4/4-2 front. It explains the inconsistent results for sure because if other teams are able to audible they can find a vulnerability Really hoping Hampton focuses on this during his first recruiting cycle. We need HS recruits we can develop without relying on athleticism to make up for a lack of identity or scheme.

Looking at the schedule I only see two games that will be tough. OSU and USC. Both away games. Just don't see losing to USC but OSU depending on the date could be rough. Still questions about the new OC and which direction he goes. Not really to concerned about the new DC. Lanning and Hampton should be fine. Team wise I think this years team should be an absolutely offensive juggernaut. Looking at the returning players and newcomers there's nothing but a huge upside to the offence. Defence should be as good as last year or better. No way of knowing how the Ducks will finish conference wise and what seeding the'll get in the CFP so I'm not going out on a limb and say they 100% win it all. But I do see them making the final 4 again and even all the way to the final 2. Right now I say they have an 80% chance to win the CFP.

I believe we’re a legitimate Finals contender, assuming we avoid an abnormal run of injuries. Since Dan Lanning took over at Oregon, the program has generally stayed healthy, and there’s little reason to expect that trend to change. I’m also encouraged by the changes at both offensive and defensive coordinator. While both are internal promotions, each brings a distinct approach to play-calling and scheme. If the on-field product stagnates or mirrors what we saw this season without improvement, Lanning has shown he won’t hesitate to evaluate those decisions and, if necessary, look externally for upgrades. Lanning has consistently demonstrated growth as a head coach, and that willingness to evolve is exactly what you want in a top-tier program leader. Additionally, I expect the young talent from the last two recruiting classes to contribute immediately. The roster is loaded with hungry, high-upside players who are ready to make an impact. Maybe the green-and-yellow OBD glasses are on—but that’s fine. Ducks football has earned the optimism. 🦆💚💛

I wish football coaches used timeouts like they do in volleyball and basketball to stop the momentum when it's really swung against you. I think Cignetti is going to make it a thing. What is better, to have 3 timeouts left to give you a chance to get the ball back to score if the opponent gets one more first down, or is it better to have stopped the other team's momentum on the previous drive so you didn't end up playing from behind in the first place?

Our players will be better next year talent wise and experience wise. Our DC will be better next year. I'm not sure about our OC, he's a wild card. So we are a playoff team. As one commenter quipped during our blowout loss to Indiana, I'm really looking forward to us getting blown out in the Natty next year.

Where Indiana almost blew it was toward the end of the game where they marched down the field, had a 2nd and 1, got a 5 yard penalty, wind up having to kick a field goal. Then Indiana got a 15 yard penalty defending Miami. Indiana could have put the game away, but that 5 yard penalty was a killer along with that 15 yarder. It kept Miami alive. I agree with you Mike. If Beck threw the ball in the correct direction, Miami would have won the game.

This might not be popular, but I'm going to say it... I expected Mario to blow it. He didn't. He actually stepped up to the plate after falling behind, and got down to business. I was very impressed with his team's poise, grit, and character. I had a discussion with a U fan on YouTube. I mentioned that Beck aimed his throw( on the INT). That fan mentioned Beck misread the coverage ( as mentioned in the broadcast), to which I agreed, because had he correctly read the coverage, Beck would have thrown the ball deeper ( to the two yard line or so) where the safety would not have been able to close and defend the pass. When Beck threw the ball, I instantly thought it was going to be a TD. I was shocked when it "fell short". Folks, that is how close the game really was. Little things like that, and no blame to any particular player, can determine a Natty. Kalen DeBoer was correct: there is a fine line between excellence and error. It didn't look like that for Bama, or OBD because there were too many "errors" like that, which made Indiana look invincible. That's why it is so difficult to win a title( especially now...NIL and the Portal have dramatically changed the game). Every play matters. You can't play a perfect game, but Indiana played like Saban's Bama teams. They didn't beat themselves. They simply executed. Miami was that close, despite never holding a lead in the game. Effort every play, learn from your and everyone elses mistakes ( thousands of hours of film study folks). OBD aren't far from the path. More poise, more effort...just more

I say possibly a loss or two regular season or conf championship game, but they make it to the finals. More young talent gets on the field. Veterans improve from this past season. Team plays better as a unit.

How about Dante learns how to run like Bo Nix in his second year of starting at Oregon? But as for your comment, I liked Bo Nix AFTER the Georgia game. That seemed to be when he stopped being the old Bo Nix and became the new Bo Nix.

I thought Miami was going to score a TD and win the game. They blew it. A great QB doesn't blow it when it counts the most. What I can imagine a coach saying in that spot would be: "Don't give it away, focus on your assignments and make them earn it".

Last year Oregon had a total of eight outright championships, (no conference tournament wins) more than Ohio State's four championships and three conference tournament wins. At this time last year we had two championships, one in football, and one in womens cross-country. This year we won both cross-country championships and the football went to the Hoosiers, who will dilute the Buckeye totals for us. We operate with an arm tied behind our back as there are 28 sports in the Big-10, but Oregon does not compete in ten of them! We are tied with Washington and Northwestern at this point, with a long ways to go... Full annual calendar of championships is right here.

Pass protection and pass rush were below the standard especially against the better teams. Everything else was very good. Dante needs to learn what to do when under pressure - but he is so good at everything else, he has that as his only item to work on. During games, mistakes were made, most not fatal, but some were to the season. Final Grade: A--- 1 minus for pass protection, 1 for lack of pass rush, and 1 for mistakes, the A for achieving with new players

I just watched the last 2 minutes of the national championship more because I wanted to see if Mario ended up not having a headset for the rest of the game after his sideline temper tantrum. He did end up getting it back up and working but I noticed something else. Miami was moving the ball well, Indiana was lost/unorganized and got called for a really dumb roughing the passer penalty. Miami got down to the IU 45 or so and had all the momentum. I was thinking crap Miami's gonna pull this out and win the natty even with Mario! That's when Cignetti called a timeout with a few seconds left on the play clock. He called everyone over, nobody will ever know what was said (I wish I did) but he wasn't panicked! He allowed his defense to take a deep breath, took the momentum away from Miami and Beck and allowed Mario and his staff to rethink(like we've all experienced) their game plan. Sure enough the very next play was the int. BRILLIANT!! That Cignetti is one goofy dude but he sure can coach!! I think I'll have a beer!! Hilarious!

After such a great record of wins, that last game hurt real bad. Perhaps even more than the embarrassing loss to tOSU in the championship the previous year. In looking back at the season, trouble signs were flashing. The Ducks seemed to lack a killer instinct. They displayed a lack of intensity, of urgency in some of those games. The offense went flat more than once. There were too few complete games where both offense and defense operated in sync and at a high level. Call it what you will, the Ducks now have yet another shot at the top prize. My biggest concern is with the new coaching staff which is a big question mark for me and will have a chance to prove itself along with the 2026 team. Coaches and players accomplished a lot in 2025 and that is to their credit regardless of falling short of the top prize.
