  2. From the article.... "USC football's loss on Saturday was a brutal one. The Trojans played terrible defense, turned the ball over multiple times, committed too many penalties, and had poor clock management, ultimately leading to them falling to a less talented opponent. "You may have noticed that I did not specify which USC loss I was talking about. While in this instance, I was referring to the Trojans' 34-32 defeat at Illinois, there are seemingly countless games that the program has played under head coach Lincoln Riley that have met those exact same criteria." That really does get to the heart of the matter. The loss to Illinois was bad enough, but the worst part is how numbingly routine and constant these losses are. It's not isolated; it's part of a large and growing pattern. This isn't a merry-go-round; it's an error-go-round. It speaks to a culture where lessons aren't learned and failure doesn't sharpen coaches or players for the next game or season. It's a complete waste of time and talent and a scathing indictment of a coach who used to be really good at his job. Lincoln Riley has lost the ability to be a quality control manager, someone who gets his teams to maintain a high standard.
  3. John was there, and wrote a ton of complimentary things about Oregon in the process. Below is the question and his answer... (Other B1G schools won't like his answer) Q: Can you compare Autzen Stadium vs. Beaver Stadium? A: Autzen plays a little louder. I know it’s counterintuitive because it’s smaller in size. I’ve been to lots of stadiums (Ohio State, Michigan, etc.) that are much bigger, but somehow not as loud. Autzen is an echo chamber, and the acoustics make it more difficult for opposing teams to hear on the field. The sheer sight of 111,015 fans at Penn State’s home stadium was mind-bending. Beaver Stadium is about twice as big as Autzen and visually stunning. The tailgate was a never-ending sea of RVs, tents, flags, tables, fans, and every setup was more impressive than the one beside it. So, when we do "Shout"...the "a little louder now" part is TRUE!
  4. Kickoff time and broadcast details released for No. 2 Oregon and No. 8 IndianaEUGENE, Ore. — No. 2 Oregon is set to meet No. 8 Indiana following the bye week for a second straight top 10 matchup. Both teams are idle this week. On Monday morning, it was announced that the Ducks and Hoosiers will meet at 12:30 PM at Autzen Stadium. The game will air on CBS. This will mark the fifth time this season that an Oregon game will open in the afternoon or morning. Saturday's game at Penn State acts as the only to kickoff following 1 PM. Early betting lines favor the Ducks. Oregon is currently 10.5-point favorites. The game between No. 2 Oregon and No. 8 Indiana will kick off at 12:30 PM on Oct. 11. It will be broadcast on CBS.

  9. It wont be Big Noon, but yeah, depending on how Indy does this week maybe we get a second Game Day in as many games for us.
  10. The other reason this could have been no called is the unspoken make up call rule. It was near that same spot on they ruled Whittington not down due to contacting blades of grass which resulted in a major swing. This targeting call would have given us first down at the 1 yardline instead of it being 4th and 1. It was perhaps a bridge too far to give us two major calls to keep our drive alive and cost them one of their starters. A separate note, is targeting was intended to take the head out of tackling, but PSU defenders didn't get the memo. The consistently were making significant contact with their helmets all through the game. I really would prefer not to play them again for that reason.

  12. Part of the evaluation process is “defenseless player”, which they usually rule out one a “football move” is made. Problem with that play was that the runner was absolutely defenseless because someone had their arms wrapped around his body and was riding him to the ground. The runner could do nothing to protect himself in that situation. Glad he wasn’t injured, but wouldn’t be surprised if he has a sore neck for a few days.

  17. James Franklin's PSU teams usually do not get blown out by highly ranked opponents. His losses against top teams are close and often agonizing. As is often the case in football, especially college football, close games come down to which QB played the better game. This was the case Saturday night in Beaver Stadium and also in Athens, Georgia, and Oxford, Mississippi. The Ducks' D was amazing for three quarters. But before the fourth quarter, where were the PSU Jet Sweep plays? Where were the plays designed to stress the edge of OBD's defense? When Franklin and his OC became aggressive with their play calling, PSU looked like a far different team. Drew Allar lost another headliner game with a late interception, just as he did vs. OBD in the B1G champ game, Notre Dame in the playoff, and again on Saturday night. The three WRs who Penn State paid a lot of money to put up 10 receiving yards through the third period. IMO, PSU's timid game plan showed a lack of faith in Allar. You couldn't have a better environment for a home team, and PSU sat on the ball? The disconnect in the passing game vs. three donut hole OOC opponents carried into Saturday's game. The stubborn effort to run up the middle of OBD's solid defense reminded me of Chip Kelly's sorry, conservative play calling vs. Michigan last season. Ditto Chip's play calling versus a Nebraska team that was wiped out at Indiana the week before, with Ohio State coming off a bye week. This approach, unfortunately, changed after the post-Michigan meltdown in a players-only meeting with HC Ryan Day, where the players urged Day to open it up on O. Many players on the PSU team we saw Saturday night will play in the NFL. PSU's timid approach to this game did take the game into OT, but what would the outcome have been if PSU trusted Allar and the O and played not to lose before the 4th quarter? This kind of game planning, IMO, is where Franklin deserves to be criticized.
