What to Know About Upcoming Playoff Changes…
Can we just get 12, 16, or the 18 best teams? Have the first two rounds be held on campus, and pair the lowest seed against the highest seed in each round, on both sides of the bracket. Make the postseason start the week after the CCG weekend. Also, no transfer portal business till the off-season. Same goes for coaching hires. If you are being payed to coach, or play for a team, for a season. You finish that out. No other profession allows you to just leave in the middle of your working shift because somebody came up and offered you another gig. Imagine a pilot, surgeon, chef, postal worker, welder, construction worker, ride operator, or ice cream distributor, and you just up and leave in the middle of what you were doing because you wanted to go somewhere else. "Sorry Mr. Kiffin, your daughter is going to hold off on having her first child. Doctor Rouge just got offered a better opportunity at another hospital. He had to do what was best for his family."

The Playoffs are Taking Sooooooooo long that I have already lost Quite a Bit of Interest.,,
I am now into the Ducks working the portal and hoping for more of a ski season. Dan Lanning was right - play these playoff games on Saturdays and finish the season. Fall has long past and now we are into the unofficial second half of winter since we just passed mid January. This is starting to feel like pro baseball going all the way almost into November to finish the season. If they go with a 32 team playoff.... we might be going all the way to college basketball's March Madness before we get a winner. If they go double elimination like they do in college baseball, we might just make it into June! The excitement of the playoffs has already faded for me. It's not just the Ducks losing. It is the long gap between games. I am used to a game every Saturday. This playoff schedule just feels out of whack. And I am also not happy about it being cable tv only. In the olden days, the major networks would carry the biggest bowl games and then a champion would be anointed. And just for good measure, I don't think we need games almost stretching into the 4 hour territory. As for the natty: I kind of don't like either team. But I do want to see the players battle it out and see who comes out on top. I definitely don't want to see either Cig or Mario win it all.

Oregon Transfers are Landing in Some Eyebrow-raising Destinations
Novosad went to Bowling Green, where he should see a lot of playing time. Beaver went to Georgia, where his chances of playing probably just got smaller. I don't see that move making any sense at all. He might be one of the guys that transfers a dozen times in his college career.

Oregon Transfers are Landing in Some Eyebrow-raising Destinations
I don't see any of those on the list becoming great players at Oregon. Justius Lowe and Blake Purchase have made some plays. But even those guys are not good enough to start for Ohio St, Georgia, Texas, etc. Oregon is growing and growing means the pretty good are no longer good enough. The standard is rising. Lanning might be planning on playing a lot of the incoming true freshmen. Hill, Davison, Dak Moore, Finny broke the mold - talent trumps experience. In years past, a lot on that list would have broken through with some time and won a starting job or got on the field quite a bit. Blake Purchase did that. But with what is coming in, it is harder for those kind of players to ascend at Oregon.

Oregon Transfers are Landing in Some Eyebrow-raising Destinations
The Ducks certainly aren't alone in this regard. The Georgia Bulldawgs lost a couple of very promising DBs even though they saw the field a good bit as freshmen. One was probably feeling squeamish as the Dawgs snapped up two very experienced CBs who are going to play ahead of him. So he portaled to Ohio State where the likelihood of becoming a starter (not to mention the NIL payout) will be higher. While we are at it, the head recruiting Guru at Georgia mentions Ohio State as one of the leading programs that is getting hammered with important losses in the portal this year. I think when the smoke clear, a fair number of top programs will be licking their wounds over players they'd hoped to retain that ended up flying the coop.

Oregon Transfers are Landing in Some Eyebrow-raising Destinations
Wow this is crazy to fathom, while some will definitely be missed for depth not any starters are leaving. I can't blame these guys for leaving most of them will start at their new team. I'm going to miss Purchase a lot he brought a great change of pace on the outside of the line and could be a dominant player with a bigger role.

The Loss of Green and Grey is Going to Hurt
Every team is now in the same boat with depth. Our incoming class has 4 dline players and our current bluechip ratio is 75%, be ready to play newbs! Need to identify a couple non-mega stars in the portal to give us some more depth. Can’t rely on being NFL ready 3 deep to win…those days are gone for everyone.

Oregon Transfers are Landing in Some Eyebrow-raising Destinations
This is the first year we've lost any players to the portal that will actually affect us negatively next year in the 2 deep, and it's quite a few: Purchase, Porter, Lopa, Austin, Harris, Gray, Green, Jericho Johnson (he was going to pass Gray and Green with another year). About half can be replaced in the portal, but the rest will be loss of quality depth.

Article on Possible Transfers to Oregon
Anyone have any theories for LB? Personally I would love to see Dottery from Ole Miss in Green and Yellow. Good instincts and athleticism and we need a signal caller for the front 7.

NIL Toppled SEC Dominance
Yep, our ridiculous depth has gone bubye in most spots. Identifying 3-star backups in the portal and incoming frosh every year are more important than ever for depth moving forward.

The Loss of Green and Grey is Going to Hurt
I completely agree...their loss is huge, but on the other hand....if you are going into your junior year--you gotta be starting somewhere if you hope to play in the NFL. (And they all think they can) I have not hit the panic button left, as we have a ton left to see. I do think we have some high upside with Aydin Breland, and Matthew Johnson (who I featured in a Spring Football Analysis) We will also have incoming freshman Tony Cumberland, who is the sixth highest ranked player in the 2026 recruiting class. But let's see if something else doesn't develop... As it is, we will have five DTs for two spots. Not what the coaches want, but it can work and give those guys valuable playing time to prepare for 2027. But I hear you. Grey is going to be great, and I wish he remained here.

The Loss of Green and Grey is Going to Hurt
Has anyone heard of new DL signings or rumors? It is great to have starters back, but we absolutely cant do it without depth, and losing those 2 really hurts, guys would be exhausted without help.

NIL Toppled SEC Dominance
With the way the transfer portal has altered how players calculate their opportunities, it’s not just those going who see no playing time for themselves, but those now more than willing to go who see a big NIL pay day. Rather than just tumbling the SEC, we may instead be looking at a domino effect that will put us all in the same boat.

NIL Toppled SEC Dominance
Yep, a rising Tide lifted all SEC boats.

The Loss of Green and Grey is Going to Hurt
Loss of Green and Grey. Heck at first, I thought you meant uniform combos and would disagree. Anyway, never say never as their previous openings will be available next year. Which could lead to new twists to the portal era wherein you go away for more $$$ one year and come back the next for more of the same and a starting role on a really good team.
