  2. Bellotti also took issue with Ferentz saying that by securing Williams, "he saved him," implying that Oregon and Bellotti were bad?
  3. PSU finishes the game 34-0 though they looked unimpressive for the most part. I don’t know if it’s because of disinterest in their opponent or a general lackadaisical attitude or something else. James Franklin probably isn’t happy with this overall effort (I know I wouldn’t be if I were in his shoes).
  4. I guess this goes pretty deep into the "holding a small grudge" category; but, haven't been a huge Kirk Ferentz fan since 2004. Bellotti and staff went all out recruiting that year. For the time, Oregon really pulled out all the stops, pursuing top recruits all over the country, big "recruiting weekends" (I think this was the year Oregon using the private jet for recruits became a thing). Oregon went on to finish #12 in the country largely behind the De La Salle group, a huge success at the time; but, it was in on a number of top kids that would have really caused a stir if Oregon landed them (I am remembering names like Marshawn Lynch, Phillip Mbakogu, Chilo Rachael). Well, Oregon had gone all the way to Iowa and gotten interest from consensus five star LB Kyle "Bonecrusher" Williams and another highly rated recruit (I am thinking DL Ryan Bain). Prior to LOI day, Oregon was producing a bit of a buzz in the college football world, being in on so many top kids. A journalist even contacted Ferentz and he went on record in an interview saying something pretty close to (this is a paraphrase): "I don't know what they are doing, coming all the way out here talking to "our" kids, wish we had that kind of money to burn". Now this was before either kid had committed. "Our kids" just meant kids from the state of Iowa. Like it was crazy for any program outside of the "blue bloods" to even dream of recruiting nationally. Now, given what happened with "Bonecrusher" (to this day listed as Iowa's highest all time rated recruit), a series of violent assaults in 2006 that landed him 37 years in prison, maybe it's time to forgive Kirk? Looks like Oregon being not afraid to "think big" in recruiting turned out ok though.
  5. Ducks! 37-10 1 TO by OSU 5 sacks by UO 273 passing yards
  6. Illinois is now up 31-19. Penn State is up 27-0 SMU is up 38-24 over Baylor Ohio State is about to kickoff vs Grambling. Michigan is four hours away from kicking off in Norman. Iowa and Iowa State are deep into the fourth tied at 13.
  7. I guess the question is what do you expect from yourself and is that enough? Iowa fans are loyal to the program, they pack that stadium every year. Occasionally they'll rise up and beat Michigan, Ohio State, or Penn State. They consider Wisconsin and Minnesota to be their biggest rivals. They have a P4 in State little brother that suctions off some the support they get in a low population State. I have been told that a great way to measure yourself is by the quality of who you think of as your contemporaries. Iowa and Nebraska are forced into an end of season rivalry that the B1G has tried to push upon both fanbases, neither really but into it. But it's getting more heated, and Iowa has kind of dominated the last ten years. Bo Pelini even famously got fired for saying something like Nebraska would never judge itself off the result of the Iowa game. More or less saying Nebraska celebrates wins over Michigan or Ohio State. My point is Nebraska fans have continuously said Oklahoma is their true rival. Iowa fans claim Wisconsin and Minnesota. To me that kind of says where each program sees itself. Oklahoma is/was a playoff or bust program. Minnesota and Wisconsin are happy to compete for conference titles, they celebrate conference title relevancy. Iowa fans think Kirk Ferentz is a Hall of Fame despite the fact he has never won a solo conference title and has one NY6 bowl win in 26 years. Would anybody here consider Dan Lanning a Hall of Famer with that resume? Who do you view as the programs you want to be considered a rival to? I know you guys don't like Washington and USC. But in your new conference who is that third team? In the SEC we have a list of 3. For Florida it's Georgia, Tennessee and LSU. In the 90's Tennessee was number one, but that order can fluctuate.
  8. Today
  9. In the other games...B1G is not impressing either. No. 11 Illinois only leads 14-13 at Half over Duke, and Iowa trails Iowa State 13-10 at halftime. Hope they can pull these games out!
  10. I sure hope Penn State wakes up because this is looking like the best team on our schedule is having some growing pains.
  11. One sportscaster in the Illinois game said that Penn State is, "Playing with their food."
  12. They dont look good to me as well.
  13. Well, there’s something to be said about consistency at the very least. That being said, Iowa St. seems pretty intent on denying him the record today.
  14. That says something about the athletic department at Iowa. They like stability as long as there is a double-digit win season every five years or so. Unfortunately, this was the stance Rob Mullens was willing to take when he offered the Oregon job to Josh Wilcox. Fortunately, Wilcox turned it down and Rob went with his second choice, Dan Lanning.
  15. Gotta score more than 10 before I’m impressed 😜 Guy fires his son as OC only to field the exact same offense. Happy Thanksgiving my boy!
  16. Yeesh, they’re up only 10-0 and got their field goal blocked right before halftime. For all the hype around the amount of returning talent and the upgrades at WR they got through the portal, they’re really struggling on offense.
  17. I don’t know if anyone else is watching the Penn St. game but they’re not looking very impressive against such a weak opponent in FIU…
  18. Saban stepped away when everyone could do legally what he had been doing under the table for years.
  19. With a win today Kirk Ferentz is set to win his 206th career game. That would break the B1G record set by Woody Hayes. Is it impressive? He has zero solo B1G Titles and one BCS Bowl win, that of course being in the 2009 Orange Bowl vs Georgia Tech. Iowa has shared two titles with Ohio State in 2002 and 2009. They feasted off being in the B1G West ,winning it three times. They lost a heartbreaker in 2015 to Michigan State, and got blown out by Michigan in 2021 and 2023. Ferentz is in his 26th season coaching. Quantity over quality?
  20. Let’s discuss the morning games in this thread, and if it gets too long, I can start another one, or start another one this afternoon for those games. It is strange to be rooting for Iowa, but I want the Big-Ten to win!
  21. Ducks win it 38-17 Force 2 turnovers Get 3 sacks Pass for 306 yards The post game handshake lasts 1.8 seconds. Lanning has 1 good thing to say about the opponent. Gundy probably has 3 good things to say about Oregon.
  22. From 1022 miles, the distance from Ann Arbor, MI, to Norman, OK, away. Had a Better Sign But Sherrone Stole It! 😁 Lasso The Cowboys!
  23. And just to "appreciate" the Fact that just One decade ago, this photo could not have happened. Today (last night), in ONE game, between two of the 32 NFL teams, we had FIVE players who know that the NFL is just their day job (a very lucrative and hard earned "day job") but in the end "Once a Duck....Always a Duck! And that very program that helped make them the men and players they are today, is proving its ability to send Duck brothers to the NFL. What a great way to show it to all the "future" Duck brothers. 🦆🏈🪨's
