  2. David, great article and thank you. DL is an excellent recruiter and your article supports that statement. Many components must be in place to make this happen. DL also excels in building a staff that shares his vision for recruiting and recognizing talent. Together they are assembling the talent needed to bring home that first Natty. Now its time that DL and staff learn from those handful of in game coaching mistakes that contributed to 4 three point losses. There is no taking the gambler out of coach Lanning. It really is in his DNA and I love it. Other coaches heard and learned from Deboers comment about recognizing and anticipating DL's tendencies. This fan will be on the edge of my seat, biting my nails in anticipation on those critical 4th and 2 plays. Executing those gambles is difficult for the players in normal situations. Double difficult if the opponent knows whats coming. Can't wait for the new eta of Duck football to start........

  5. Jon, thanks for posting these 2 articles. They give us old Ducks fans a chance to learn a little more about our new conference opponents. Personally the OOC games will not affect the BIG title chase but they will affect CFP seeding. Michigan, tOSU, Penn State, uscsuck and Oregon all have a great chance to go 8-1 or 7-2 in conference play. IMHO 3 of these five or maybe 4 will make the 12 team playoff. Assuming these 5 teams beat the teams they should beat... Then Michigan has 3 top teams on the schedule.. tOSU, Oregon and Texas. Win 2 of those 3 and 11-1 Michigan will be invited. A win over Texas could determine which Power 2 gets 4 invites. Wolverines should beat our Ducks in Ann Arbor in a fierce nail-biter tOSU has a soft schedule. Only Michigan, Oregon and PSU truly stand in the way of a 12-0 season. Oregon has the best shot of upsetting the Buckeyes. But a 11-1 Buckeye team is a lock. PSU does not play MIchigan or Oregon, only USC and tOSU. 11-1 for the Nittany Lions is a reality. USC and PSU winner may get the 4th invite to the CFP. USC has one difficult schedule. They face LSU, Michigan, PSU and ND. A win against LSU and PSU and a 10-2 season could put the trojanless wonders in the playoff. We all know they are entitled to an invite.A win against LSU helps decide which P2 conference gets 4 schools. Oregon has the talent to go 12-0. Losing to anyone besides Michigan or tOSU in 2024 is unacceptable. The Ducks split with the 2 bluebloods and 11-1 gets an invite. 2 caveats to this uninformed projection....... 1. No one really knows how the committee will rank or seed the teams. Going to be some well deserving 10-2 teams left out 2. No one really knows how usc or oregon will play in a cold, frigid snowy game in Wisconsin. For those of you who have experienced the weather in the great lakes, well it csn cut to the bone. Wisconsin gets a crack at Alabama at an upset would set the CFP on its hesd. Gonna be such an exciting, nerve wracking, rollercoaster ride. Go Ducks........
  6. Bo benefited by having Dilly as his OC in year 1 at Auburn and Oregon and with Will Stein in his 2nd year in Eugene. Dilly to Stein evidences Dan Lanning's 'CEO" coaching hire acumen and success.

  9. PAWALLLL, say it ain't so! Ohio State is Number 1. WOW! https://athlonsports.com/college-football/big-ten/paul-finebaum-ohio-state-buckeyes-are-preseason-no-1-team-in-college-football-entering-2024-season
  10. It's OK to have a different opinion; if he runs a 4.80 as you say--then he won't be playing, and it will sort itself out soon enough. We have a lot of safeties in the room, thus by comparison--his speed will be revealed early on.
  11. Wait, do we have good weather in Oregon the second half of the season? Asking for a friend.
  12. Alex great article to ponder. Many talented players on this roster could suprise us and take that step forward. There is no reason to believe that OBD's offense shouldnt be a top 5 scoring team. Bo was such a calm leader that we all became confident that we could outscore anybody. Gabriel, Moore and even Novasad will lead this team very well. After a few games the offense we be firing on all cylinders. And we will feel confidence and surety in the offense Washington exploited the weakness in the secondary and DL and staff made just a few coaching mistakes and we came up short. DL is building and eliminating those weaknesses. Shoring up against the run with a hugh transfer, coupled with outstanding secondary cover transfers will allow Burch/Tuioti to cause havoc, chaos and get sacks. DL is putting the talent on the field, in a system that requires execution. Its all coming together. 100% effort, 100% of every play by every player will reap the rewards. OBD's will field more talent than everyone but tOSU. I will be disappointed if this team doesnt go 11-1 in the regular season. Beating tOSU at home will help us hold the tie breaker with the Buckeyes. I am not writing Michigan off because they still may have the best defense in the BIG in 2024. They will be difficult to beat in Ann Arbor. Rhe putrid dogs held us well below our scoring average, twice. Our D must do that in all 12 games. And we can expect Michigan and tOSU to hold our offense down, also..... Its very possible that Michigan, tOSU and the Ducks all finish 11-1. Those 2 bluebloods will be difficult to best. I dont know who will step up to lead these Ducks. But DL is bringing in the horses to get it done. Go Ducks........
  13. Awesome! Steak and lobster for the green team! Beanies and weenies for the white.
  14. I think our strength is in depth at each defensive position. Especially after the latest 2 additions. Based on snap count analysis from last year, and things coach DL has said, I believe he wants a lot of rotation with fresh bodies. We may not see individual stat #'s set any records, but overall, get pressure on the qb and stop the run. Stopping the run in the B1G will be priority #1. Getting that big bodied defender from MSU was huge. Gives the young guys someone to learn from too. Funny enough, my biggest concern is on offense. I'm hoping Dillion develops a genuine rapport with the receivers, timing, reading defenses the same, and they adjust to that left-handed spin. Bo in the 4th quarter gave me confidence like I used to have with Joey in the 4th. I'm hoping DG does the same. I'm also going to miss Bucky. Though our RB depth looks solid. Finally, I hope the poor exchanges between qb and center get worked out. I'm giving new qb's as the reason and they will work things out in the fall. We have been spoiled with superb center play for many, many years. Something I have taken for granted. It's too important of position for that. Anyway, can't wait for the season to start!
  15. JD only succeeded at LSU by getting away from the tough PAC12 defenses to go up against the pansie SEC defenses. That's the counter argument for those that say Nix thrived at Oregon because PAC12 defenses suck. The real question for us is the B1G defenses. Are they really that superior or are their offenses inferior, or is the weather just too crappy in the back half of the season for offenses to produce? The truth is probably in the middle of all 3.

  17. So I checked, CA top tax rate is 13.3% and OR is 9.9% Not a lot of difference. CA cost of living, #2 highest. OR col is #10 highest. So again, not a lot if difference $$. Difference is the coaching and the culture, just like you said Mr. Marsh. Well said.
  18. For the record in light of my earlier comment, I fully anticipate Woodyard to become a strong contributor for the Ducks.
  19. I believe a lot of people misperceived how well Nix would do. My initial thoughts were as follows: Nix had a horrible OL at Auburn. He was waltzing into a very good situation at Oregon. Nix had average WRs at Auburn. Again, he walked into a much better Skill set at Oregon. Nix forced things at AU, because he felt the pressure to make plays. I watched a lot of tape of him against the Elite teams, because I felt that would be the best measure of his skills. He was constantly under pressure, and his WRs did him no justice. He ran for his life and frankly, pressed to make things happen. His debut with Oregon in Atlanta was much the same. But he didn't have the WR set he had last year in that game. Georgia sat on the WRs, and Nix forced several throws. Ironically, he had enough time to throw against Georgia, but he felt the pressure to succeed nonetheless. Last year, against the Fuskies, he played well both games. He was under much more duress and had to buy time or scramble much more than against Georgia, and he played far better in both those games than against the Bulldogs. He just didn't execute on fourth down the first game, and he was inconsistent the second game. Overall, it would have taken thorough study to have been comfortable with Nix when he transferred to Oregon. So many SEC and Auburn fans didn't vet him very well in my opinion. That should be clear by how Auburn did after Nix left. In closing, I had the same kind of issues with Heisman winner Jayden Daniels. He played far better with better talent surrounding him. I felt he was a lost cause transferring from ASU, but I was far off base. He adjusted well to his speedy WRs and he made far better decisions at LSU. I believe both will play well in the NFL if they get the kind of talent they had in college.
  20. Josh Pate On Oregon Winning A National Title College Football's 2024 season is approaching and that means bold predictions are back. On Late Kick Live Josh Pate responded to a viewer prediction about Oregon and Dan Lanning winning a national title this season. Do the Ducks have what it takes?
  21. Pains me to say it, but we just hit a buzz saw called UW last year. UW felt like smoke and mirrors to me all year, but 10 players drafted including 5 offensive players in the first two rounds say otherwise. Given we lost by 3 points twice with our perceived shortcomings and injuries, I think the only real problem we had last year was that UW was stacked on offense and extremely motivated in the P12 title game. What I see now on our roster seems considerably better overall. I don’t think we’ll see a team with the same passing game this year, that was pretty unique and still barely took us down. If I was being picky, not sure how fantastic our LBs actually are overall as a group. Would love to have a first round destroyer in that group.
  22. I believe that No. 44 Teitum Tuioti is the next big success at Edge, the elite pass-rusher. He had two sacks last year, but had 2.5 in the Spring Game alone? That is development, but he also showed extraordinary skills covering the pass downfield against one of the best tight ends in the nation, Terrance Ferguson. He is quite the athlete.... I believe when the season is done--he will have the most sacks.
  23. Alex, This is a good article - thank you. I want to emphasize several things you touched on. History: Yes, when DL/Edge Burch left the championship game, he had put a lot of pressure on the Huskies best OL/left tackle. When Burch left, that Husky NFL 1st Rd pick controlled our Edge rushers. Our rushers were all very good freshman players, and they had played almost a whole season, but they were still 1st year players - very good 1st year players, but nonetheless 1st year players against an accomplished Vet who was as good as we wished he was not. So, Burch was worth 3-4 points in that game - maybe even more. We all saw what 12-13 more practices brought out in Tuioti as a rusher during the Spring game, and so many other young players are right there. The Duck defense (just as all defenses are), is a system. The D-Line and its component parts work together with the LBs (we have the most talented LB core we have ever had) and defensive backfield (4+1) (again, the most talented we have had in a decade, if ever). Each element plays a role, and the Ducks recognize this as evidenced by the internal system of replacement we saw in the DLine this past year. Each position group needs to employ replacements because many times a defense can't seem to get off the field (and the overall defense becomes worn down and cannot effectively stop the offense). In Coach Lannings' third season we have those replacements in all three of the defensive areas. Still, they have to understand the defensive system, and then prove it in practice and scrimmages (tests). This is the year Coach Lanning and his coordinators (and Asst coaches and analysts) step forward and raise their hands to select, train, apply and lead the players into and out from the breach. Leaders lead mentally and by example, and leaders make adjustments to create and exploit success. Now, the refining, training and proofing to establish the system and conditions of replacement will take place - maybe in the office/classroom or on the practice field where the players take turns explaining the what and why to each other followed by the contingencies and the conditions that trigger those contingencies. I believe the Ducks' coaches organize and do this as well as (or better) than any team I have seen. What else is there? The scheme and understanding, the teamwork if you will, by which the coordinators apply their art and human capital to create conditions. I believe Coach Lanning (CL) to be darned close to a defensive whiz (not brilliant/not a genius) as far as his use of stratagems and timing (but he failed in the 2d half of the Ducks-Beavers game two seasons ago, and again last season in the championship game when he did not have an effective plan to stop the Husky off-tackle run game we experienced in the UW-USC game.) CL is not perfect, but he uses his coordinators very well, and he has two great combinations in his current offense/defense Coord staff as well as a determined Spec Teams Coordinator who has experienced greatness in his specialty (but not lately), and we have very good kickers. punters, and return specialists. CL understands we set the conditions to win up front, on the lines. Now, building the team and the refining of the Offense, Defense, & Spec Teams continues. VR, KCDuck1 Go, Fight, Win Ducks, Win!
  24. USC's own reporters say their DL is G5 level right now with little depth. They need to send out the APB to current students to find potential walk ons that could be pushed above 300 lbs with a summer of gluttony. USC should be really good this year, but they face planted on the most critical position outside of QB going into the B1G.
  25. This is some big time recruiting. And I have a doozy of an article coming out tomorrow just about Lanning's recruiting ability so far. So take a look on the main site for that to drop tomorrow morning. Yes... I am shamelessly self promoting here.
