  1. You know, JB, you're right. I'm glad he's our coach as well.
  2. This is why I wasn't crazy about Lanning's extension. Love the guy. Not sure about his coaching chops. Everyone says he's young and he'll learn. I'm not so sure. His coaching reminds me a bit too much of Brandon Staley of the Chargers, who I cannot stand. I hope he learns...
  3. Bo Nix is awesome. Loyal, classy, faithful. I love this guy! Boy are we lucky he came to Eugene!
  4. Yup. Not to mention Lanning makes about $7M a year more than kickers and safeties do
  5. Tough loss. I like Lanning, but at this point DeBoer is a significantly better coach. Tough loss for players when coaching decisions led to the loss. Not surprised Cam missed. We've seen it before... I don't blame him. This is on Lanning. And two of those fourth down calls seemed pretty lame to me. You would think we would have something better than roll out and hope someone gets open...
  6. I like the way you put it, David: "built differently." Nice analysis! How do you all think that the Ducks will do in really bad weather compared to UW, USC, etc.? Do we have an advantage in rainy and/or windy conditions because we are more balanced? Or is there not much difference now in the days of artificial surfaces and sticky receiver gloves?
  7. Erik Skopil reported today on Duck Territory that Florence only played 16 snaps: "Cornerback Jahlil Florence did not take part in the full contact drills, and was off to the side during stretch — typically a sign of a partial participant. The starting corner played just 16 snaps on Saturday." Updates from Oregon's week five Tuesday football practice 247SPORTS.COM The Ducks held their first of two open practices this week on Tuesday morning. Here's a recap of everything media saw during the 20 available minutes.
  8. I think Sanders is different than Shough in that he is elusive and uses his legs to buy time. He throws extremely well while moving, and is very dangerous in situations where he throws off platform. This poses a real threat because even if you get pressure on him (and we will), he can really hurt you by eluding the pressure and finding his quick receivers. His receivers are well coached and know what to do when he starts scrambling. I think some of Shough's runs were designed, and some he ducked, tucked and ran. In either case his goal was to gain yards, and he is a good runner. Sanders is more likely to step. slide and shimmy around to allow receivers to get open, and then throw it. That's what I saw in limited viewing anyhow. I think Sanders can be far more dangerous.
  9. Thank you for the link, HDuck. I expect the B1G will fold UW and the Ducks into the Flex Protect model. Undoubtedly as each other's "protected opponent."
  10. Thank you, Mike and thank you Charles. I was quite uncomfortable about many of the comments I read here as well, and I appreciate you being sensitive about it and writing about it. I have not seen any of the Netflix documentary nor have I seen much about Coach Sanders, but what I have seen impresses me greatly. He appears to me to be FULL of substance, and to care deeply about his players. He is especially interested in their off the field success. I don't think he's coaching for publicity or money (he doesn't need it), but because he loves those kids and wants to help them. As Santa Rosa Duck noted, he is motivated by a higher calling. He brought terrific coaches to CU, and their on-the-field success so far is testimony to his coaching ability as well. I am also rooting for him -- but not this Saturday.
  11. CU beating last year's #2 team. I love it!! They are for real! Coach Sanders is a very very good coach.
  12. And turnovers and special teams play
  13. I like it! Move UCLA to #5 and drop us to #6. A little extra motivation can't hurt!
  14. Thank you, Charles, for maintaining the website and forum all these years. I have been a Duck fan since toddling around the backyard in Junction City in the late 50's. My parents moved to California just before I started kindergarten, and I've often had trouble getting information about my beloved Ducks. With no local media focusing on UO, I relied for a long time on GoDucks.com. When I finally stumbled upon your website I was so thrilled, and just devoured the articles. I have appreciated more and more the forum with decorum -- I can't stomach any other forums or websites because their rude and mean posts irritate me. So thank you for your efforts to keep this forum civil. It really is my primary source for information about the Ducks. I still love them dearly after over 60 years, and I'm glad I have a place to learn about them from informed and thoughtful people. I'll go back to lurking now, but I just wanted to say thanks. Good luck selling your house. That is a major project! Jim Johnson
  15. Thanks for posting, bb. I am not familiar with McCollough, but his resume looks pretty legit. I believe Phil liked the Apple deal, because -- well, I was very intrigued by it. I think it might have worked out quite well in the long run. I still think we will look back at this as a very poor decision -- maybe even disastrous. I hope I'm wrong. But it's water under the bridge now, so on to the B1G,
  16. As of tonight, it's the Chargers' stadium.
  17. I think the PAC-4 could pick up SMU and maybe another AAC team (or three) like UTSA or Tulane or Rice for 2024 just to survive. Then they could add SDSU and whomever from the MWC in 2025 for a smaller exit fee. Chances are they may still get A5 status and an automatic playoff bid. As has been mentioned, that could look pretty good for the Beavs and the other PAC schools.
  18. The issue isn't with football. There are only four or five conference away games. Not a problem for football. In fact, they get to go to some awesome venues. Well, the equipment truck has to leave earlier maybe. The issue is with the other 20 sports. Softball has to travel to Maryland and Pennsylvania in early spring instead of Corvallis or the Bay Area or Arizona. Etc. etc.
  19. Interesting article! Thanks for posting, Jeff!
  20. I think you are right, Happy. The numbers just don't cry out that the B1G was a better deal financially -- at least for the duration of the current media deal. Plus didn't Colorado use the lack of linear partners as their reason for leaving?
  21. I hope you are right, Jon. Maybe the B1G can hire you to consult on this?
  22. Good for you, Charles!! Keep it up! I appreciate it. I'm surprised at how sad this has made me.
  23. Plus, the argument that going to a weaker league is better for baseball and softball (and other sports such as track & field) is directly counter to the argument that going to the stronger B1G is better for football. Arguments for going to the B1G for football (except money) include better recruiting, better exposure, etc. Wouldn't that mean worse recruiting, worse exposure for minor sports if we are in a weaker league for them? Charles, I don't disagree with you. I agree we are all being pulled into this. I know that many of our diamond players came to UO because they wanted to play in the PAC. Will they still come?
