  1. Iowa also has a trophy game with Iowa State. But, most Iowa fans of a certain maturity consider the game with Minnesota as THE rivalry game. For many years it was the last game of the regular season, sometimes played in snowy conditions. When Nebraska joined the Big Ten, the conference "manufactured" a rivalry game with Iowa for Thanksgiving weekend to end the season to create a "rivalry" for Nebraska in the B1G. That shifted the Minnesota game to various dates ranging from mid-October to mid-November. This Saturday is only the third time Iowa and Minnesota have played a game in September in their history. This will be the 118th meeting. Before Simmons who was discussed in that link, Iowa's roster included Duke Slater...the first Black in the College Football Hall of Fame. The stadium field has a logo with his name as the Duke Slater Field. Iowa had Black players as early as 1910. The first Black player on the Alabama roster was 1971.
  2. Looks like the women will have four trips also.
  3. Oregon will play 7 B1G games "back East" with four road trips. Four? Doesn't exactly seem like that falls into the critic's category of miserable... Also, play Beavis on the road in Corvallis. Football has 3 road trips "back East" this season unless they qualify for the B1G Championship game. The 2024-25 schedule: SIDEARM Integrations GODUCKS.COM Season tickets are now on sale and start at only $175 ($11 per game). Fans can visit www.GoDucks.com/MBBtix or call 541-346-8281 to secure their tickets.
  4. Since the 2000 season, the Beavers have been involved in 17 losses by 35 points or more, including last Saturday. Four of those 17 were to Oregon. Though only the 7th worst defeat in Corvallis was to Oregon. They lost 6 other home games to Pac programs by more. 14 of the 17 (9 home, 8 away) were to Pac opponents. In that period the worst home loss was to Utah, the worst road loss to Oregon. None of the 17 involved WSU or the Mt. West Four.
  5. Missouri vs Kansas is 57-54-9. That Border War statistic has to fit the definition of rivalry. But, in 2011 when Missouri left the Big12 and went to the SEC the game was discontinued. That's 13 years without it. The two programs have now scheduled each other 2025-26 and 2031-32. Two on, four off. Oklahoma left for the SEC this season. The game with Oklahoma St was dropped. Instead of OU non-conference, the OSu Cowboys will play Oregon, Arkansas, Alabama, Nebraska in the next few years. There are no current plans for OU and Okie State to rekindle the Bedlam Series. Obviously those examples involved conference teams which are now non-conference. Appears one series will be periodic, the other is off the books for several years. In both cases, participants will be able to schedule other Power 4 opponents. I could get on board with either approach. Especially since other sports such as basketball and baseball could still create matchups.
  6. "Chip Kelly experiences this condition every time he sees the Ducks rolling on teams like Oregon State without his guidance." Here's a piece of trivia for everyone...Since 2000, the Beavers have lost 9 home games and 8 road games by 35 pts or more. None of those losses were to a team coached by Chip - Ducks or Bruins. (Biggest Chip win 28 pts) Four of the 17 (35pt) were to Oregon: 1 each Bellotti, Taggart, Cristobal, Lanning
  7. As Jon points out, the obvious plan for the Pac is to make the appropriate chess moves to clear the field of CFP competition. Take the best of the Mt. West. Pay up to take Memphis and Tulane from the American. That would position the Pac for the 5th best conference champion and the Playoff. What other competition would be left? The MAC? Maybe. Conference USA, or Sun Belt? Doubt it. That is the strategy. But, whether the Playoff retains a guaranteed slot for No. 5 remains to be seen. I suppose the Pac could attempt the argument that a Non-Four should have at least an At-large slot?
  8. WSU, cannot be one of the 5 conference champs, because they are not in a qualifying conference. So, they would have to be 12-0 and at-large somewhere between 5 and 12, but one of those is eliminated in favor of the 5th conference champ. More realistically they would have to be 9, 10, or 11 slot only. Fuskies were not ranked when WSU beat them. Tex Tech wasn't ranked. Maybe Boise St will be Sep. 28, and later if BSU wins the Mt. West and Mt. West Championship. If Beavis rights the ship, they might be ranked when WSU visits Corvallis. Not sure where WSU is going to build the resume that gives Canzano his confidence? Idaho is No. 4 in the FCS ranking this week.
  9. Based on the AP ranking in the third week. Don't invest your life savings. 1-Texas - Sugar - 8 vs 9 2-OhioSt - Rose - 7 vs 10 3-Miami - Peach - 6 vs 11 4-Utah - Fiesta - 5 vs 12 5-Georgia - host N. Illinois 6-Alabama - host Penn St 7-Ole Miss - host Oregon 8-Tennessee - host Missouri 9-Missouri 10-Oregon 11-PennSt 12-N. Illinois
  10. If, it were based on this week’s AP rankings 1- Texas (SEC Champ) 2- Georgia 3- Ohio St (B1G Champ) 4- Alabama 5- Ole Miss 6- Tennessee 7- Missouri 8- Miami (ACC Champ) 9- Oregon 10- Penn St 11- USuC 12- Utah (Big12 Champ) 23- N. Illinois (Group of 5 Champ) – would bump out USC WSU has no conference championship this season, would have to be at-large. In that ranking, Oregon would travel to Miami.
  11. I checked to listen to Mike Parker on the Beavis broadcast after a third quarter Ducks score to hear his reaction and this is what I heard: Parker, "I'm reminded of Job from the Bible, 'For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, ...." (me: the rest of that Bible passage, "and that which I was afraid of is come unto me).'" I think we can all relate to that as fans...when your team plays as a significant underdog you usually have hope, which often gets squashed. I can't remember ever hearing a Bible reference on any broadcast before. That was a new one.
  12. Would prefer to see a 2 on, four off, format. For example, 2024-25, then four off, then on again 2030-31. Could use those four years for home-and-home games vs Cal, Stanford, Arizona, ASU, Utah which helps maintain recruiting in those areas. Or, other strategic games such as games vs Texas opponents. It is highly unlikely OSU would ever agree to anything but home-and-home.
  13. As a little nugget in the AP ranking, the 63 voters range from No. 4 to No. 13. The lone vote at No. 13 is the UW beat writer at the Seattle Times. A graduate of UW, and student paper sports editor while he was there.
  14. The offensive play at the goal line that lost the game for UDub was partial karma for that fourth down dud last year that Lanning called vs UDub.
  15. The box score says there were 57,000 for the Apple Cup in a 68,000 stadium. Last week the Huskies had 64,000 at home for E. Michigan. A big win for WSU that apparently a bunch of WSU fans refused to attend.
  16. Prior to this game, in 2024 season, Oregon State was 7th best nationally in third down conversions....this game 6 of 9. Prior to this game, Oregon State was 4th in shortest distance needed to convert a third down. In this game it seems like most of their thirds are 3 yds or under. Prior to this game, Oregon State led nation in time of possession. 20:54 vs 9:06 (Oregon) in first half.
  17. For those who don't remember.....Ashford: Oregon>Auburn>S. Carolina Apparently revised kick off time in Eugene: 12:45
  18. Bummer. Wisconsin starting QB goes out with injury on first possession. Knee injury with what was a very minimal contact by 'bama. Early reports, he won't return. Badgers lead 3-0 essentially because they got field position based on the injured QB's running.
  19. To make the 2024 and 2025 games work, Oregon had to rewrite its three-game contract with Boise State. The Ducks were scheduled to play the Broncos in Eugene in 2024 and 2026, and at Boise State in 2025. The 2025 game was dropped to accommodate the OSU series. In addition, Oregon had to buy its way out of a game against Hawaii. It cost Oregon an additional $2.8 million to change the deals in order to play the Oregon State games in 2024 and 2025. Ducks play nine conference games and three nonconference games. Oregon already has a full slate of nonconference games for 2026, 2027 and 2028: 2026: Boise State, at Oklahoma State, Portland State. 2027: Eastern Washington, at Baylor, Utah State 2028: North Dakota State, Baylor, at Utah State For 2026, the obvious game to move or buy out is Portland State. But, a nonconference schedule of Boise State, Oklahoma State and Oregon State is a tough ask. Moreover, the Ducks would be looking at playing two nonconference road games in 2026 or 2027 if they play the Beavers. More at that link.
  20. Is Oregon State vs. Oregon football series due for a pause following 2025 season? WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM The Beavers and Ducks play for the 128th time Saturday, but next year's game could be the last for a while because of financial hurdles.
  21. To balance the Oram stuff, read the Mike Vorel column in the Seattle Times about the "new Pac." Excerpt: But why does it feel underwhelming? Because the Pac-12 as you knew it is probably never coming back. Because life at a lower rung seems disappointingly permanent. More of his perspective there. Personally, I don't think the Pac will take more Mt. West schools unless they run out of alternatives. I think their strategy is to use the money they got from the Escaping Ten to buy "the best teams" from other conferences. For example, Memphis, Tulane, UTSA from The American. Why? Simply in an effort to eliminate competition for the CFP slot. The top 5 ranked conference champions get a slot. If you can eliminate the ability for other conferences such as The American, or Sunbelt, to have their champion ranked above the Pac leader then you accomplish the goal. If they do that, then they really only have to worry about the MAC conference champion.
  22. Wolken speaks some truth while OSU/WSU are busy sticking their fingers into the frosting on a year old cake. Good link for everyone to read. Dennis Dodd can be a Big12 apologist and curmudgeon, but Wolken generally seems a bit more neutral. And, he seems to nail this.
  23. CSU leads that series 10-6. Kinda surprised at that ratio. 6-2 in last 8. Obviously I'm not an expert on Colo State or Fresno, but still I would have guessed Fresno might have the edge similar to their 8-6 vs Oregon St. OSU vs WSU (48-57-3) Boise State (6-4) San Diego State (5-2) Fresno St (6-8) Colorado St (1-2) and, if add: UNLV (2-3) Air Force (0-0)
  24. According to Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger, the Pac-12 "is mobilizing its long-discussed plan to rebuild the league with additions from the Mountain West." In particular, per Dellenger, the Pac-12 is targeting the Boise State Broncos, San Diego State Aztecs, Colorado State Rams, and Fresno State Bulldogs as additions to their conference. The Pac-12 board is expected to approve the deal with these four schools by the end of the week. Dellenger says that Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State, and Fresno State "are expected to soon apply or have already applied for membership into the conference." With that, the soonest all four programs could join the Pac-12 would be in 2026. My add...the conference needs to get to 8 members. Rumors are running pretty hot on Wednesday night that it will likely be UNLV and Air Force from the Mt. West. And/or Texas San Antonio and another Texas based school such as North Texas or Rice. Those combos would give "the Pac" potential TV markets: Spokane (Seattle?), Portland, San Diego, Boise, Fresno, Denver...and possibly adding Vegas, Colorado Springs, San Antonio and Dallas.
  25. I appreciate the RESPECTFUL diversity of opinion on this topic. I'm sure Charles agrees. I do think it points out that there is not an overwhelming majority who believe the non-conference Civil War should be retained at all costs. Nor, a majority to ditch it. I would just hate to see Oregon trapped into an annual game at the expense of the potential of seeing other Power 4 programs inside Autzen. Oklahoma St and Oklahoma are not currently scheduled to play since OU is going to the SEC. OSU instead has Oregon, Arkansas, Nebraska and Alabama taking that slot. And, unlike Oregon, Okie State doesn't have to worry as much about scheduling for proximity to recruiting territories. Those two are a bus ride 80 miles apart in Okie Land. UW has WSU scheduled through 2028. Then in 2029-30, they have a home-and-home with Tennessee. To me, it would make a better schedule to have WSU in 2029-30, and other Power 4 opponents in 2025-28. I think UW may have allowed itself to get caught in the "sympathy trap."
