kirklandduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Ducks 38-21 3 4 375 OL will improve marginally, defense will carry the day with a timely sack and/or INT to create the final score. -

Yeah I noticed that too, he was squinting quite a bit. -
Gabriel Game-Plan: Ignore the Longer Passes?
kirklandduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I found a good video of last season's highlights at Oklahoma. He has more than enough arm talent, accuracy, and vision for intermediate and long passes. I'm chalking this up to what I mentioned in my last comment in this thread, which is he's still getting used to his new receivers. It takes time to build chemistry/trust and learn all your teammates tendencies, makes it even tougher when you can't trust the right side of the OL to protect your blind spot so timing is off as well. -
Well this is interesting, almost makes me want to subscribe! Movie star Glen Powell plays football for Oregon Ducks in new TV series WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM Powell will star in the Hulu sports comedy "Chad Powers," which reportedly began filming in August.

Gabriel Game-Plan: Ignore the Longer Passes?
kirklandduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think we're all guilty of expecting so much given we've been spoiled by the talents of Bo Nix last year. That's the one drawback of grabbing players through the transfer portal, often they only have 1 year of eligibility left so their impact is less than someone who's in the program 2+ years. It's the reason why I'm thankful OBD have a bye week in the 1st half of the season which buys valuable time for players like DG who need every minute to get up to speed. I always thought it would take him half the season to really get comfortable in the offense...well the Ohio State game is right before mid-season so I'm hoping the universe lines up and DG turns in a monster performance that day. -
Gabriel Game-Plan: Ignore the Longer Passes?
kirklandduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Occam's Razor. IMO I think the issue may be the most obvious: he's still building a rapport with his receivers. It's his first and only year in a new offense with new ball catchers, I think it's reasonable to say he won't be a 2nd year Bo Nix. But if he performs more like 1st year Bo Nix that should be more than sufficient providing that Will Stein will allow Dillon to pull the ball and run once in a while like Kenny Dillingham did. -
Good D for Oregon Will Not be Enough to Beat Boise State
kirklandduck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Until the OL figures things out, opposing defenses are going to try and stack the box like Idaho did to stop the run. I surmise that it's going to take more than a week to fix the OL so Will Stein will need to adjust his plans. For me it's simple: let DG pull the ball and run. Force the opposing defense to take into account the QB and they'll end up thinning out the middle, allowing at least some chance for the OL to open some holes for the RBs. Then that opens up the passing game. Obviously he doesn't need to do this a whole bunch of times but letting DG be what he is (a dual threat QB) will open things up IMO. He just needs to do it a handful of times sprinkled throughout the game for 10 yards to make defenses think twice about crowding the middle. -
Nobody is Talking About the Ducks. Is That Good or Bad?

Good. No more distraction which allows DL and team to go to work. -
Oregon Ducks Football: Who Needs a BIG Week Two?
kirklandduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I don't have anything else to add that others haven't mentioned already (which we all know is the OL). All I want to see out of that line is consistency and fewer mistakes next weekend. -

Did All The Praise Hurt The Team?
kirklandduck replied to Duckley Palace's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think we would be fooling ourselves if it wasn't a factor but I don't think it's as big of one as we might think. Most of the issue starts with bad center play (sorry Charlie Pickard, you just didn't have it tonight). It may have been better if Pancho were lining up in the middle but I guess various factors shoved him over to right guard where he didn't perform well either. The lack of interior presence then contributed to the already puzzling bad play of the tackles, especially on the right (Cornelius killed a couple drives on his own with penalties). I do think this will get straightened out...the question is how long it will take. Assuming Bedford and Iuli come back soon that could drastically speed up the improvement but if they come back too early and get re-injured then they're in trouble. OBD need every minute of that 5 weeks before tOSU comes to Eugene in order to get to the level that's expected of them. -
Look at the Bright Side With This Game...
kirklandduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Just watched the post-game presser and oh MAN DL was NOT a happy camper. You could tell he just got done chewing out a bunch of people in the locker room and wanted to go to the video room instead to analyze plays. -
Look at the Bright Side With This Game...
kirklandduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Before the season started I was most concerned about the how much we would lose on the OL after JPJ left. Pancho provided some hope in the Fiesta Bowl, not so much today even at RG. But what surprised me most was how bad both tackles played, particularly Ajani Cornelius. -

He was 41-49 with 380 yards passing and 2 TDs. The problem isn’t him. The OL played sloppy and killed multiple drives with penalties and just outright bad play. -

Rushing would have been fine with better blocking by the OL. Same with the passing game, lots of yards but lost opportunities for more TDs. Coach Terry has a TON of work to do next week. -

That TD probably put it to bed but I’d like them to score again just to make sure. -

Can’t rely on the defense to do everything. The offense has allowed Idaho to have too much confidence and it’s showing. -

I’d like to see Dillon Gabriel pull the ball and take off. That would force Idaho’s defense to adjust. -

The OL play is comical at this point. Tripping over your own teammate to blow up the play and turn the ball over on downs. -

Defense doing well overall, offense is underwhelming most due to the OL not doing their job. Coach Terry needs to do something to wake his guys out of their malaise. -

That’s an understatement. I don’t know what’s going on in Cornelius’ head but he’s not playing anywhere near the level of a starting lineman. Might be good to bench him as a wake up call. -

I don’t know what’s going on with Cornelius but that’s the 2nd time he’s ruined a 1st down play by being out of formation. -

I don’t know what some of those CFB pundits were looking at during the Summer, Gabriel has plenty of arm strength. -
