UCLA Announces Hire of All-Time Great to Replace Chip Kelly
This really is the only option that's realistic for UCLA right now given their dire financial status and dismal NIL support. No chance a good and experienced HC will want to start with such a disadvantage, even if the location is in a recruiting hotbed. DeShaun Foster might turn into a good HC but he's going to starting from the ground up and primarily recruiting 3* talent as he'll be routinely outbid for blue chips. Of course that's not necessarily a bad thing if you're able to develop guys like Kyle Whittingham is consistently able to.

Chip Kelly Leaving UCLA For OC Job At Ohio State!
Seems like the only realistic option for UCLA is to pick up someone who's never been an HC before and wants their next step in their career. The majority of established HCs won't want to join a football program that's financially crippled and has weak NIL support.

Chip Kelly Leaving UCLA For OC Job At Ohio State!
David Shaw would be an interesting hire. He's a solid coach who could recruit at Stanford despite the academic requirements there. I imagine those would be lower at UCLA, though the athletic department's financials being bad probably puts similar handcuffs to recruiting both players and coaches.

But then again I haven't followed UCLA's defensive scheme and statistically as a team they are very good, so what do I know? 🤷♂️ Elsewhere on the defensive line, if this guy became available I wouldn't mind if OBD snagged him. 13 sacks last season?? Chip Kelly Leaving UCLA For OC Job At Ohio State!
You know the work environment is bad when you leave a Power 5 HC position for an OC position. My impression is that Kelly and the UCLA AD really don't like each other.

Tosh Offered Oregon DC Twice Before?
This short video popped up on my YouTube feed. It's Tosh Lupoi giving an interview and talking about Lanning being the reason why he came to Oregon. But he also mentions in passing that he was offered the DC position twice already in the past. I can't recall him being offered before but I can only think maybe Mario reached out to him both times when he lost Avalos and DeRuyter?

CBS Sports Take on the 'New Big 10'

Crystal Ball Alert: Gatlin Bair to Oregon.
He would be a nice get for OBD but TBH, I'm not that excited about Bair...primarily because he goes on a 2 year LDS mission right after high school so he wouldn't even be on campus until at 2026. Add in development time he probably wouldn't be a meaningful contributor until 2027 at least. Great if we get him but right now I'm more excited about the other receivers we have in the 2024/2025 classes.

Schedules Matter and Oregon Has the Short End of the 2024 Scheduling Stick
The one silver lining is that the first 4 games are patsies then they get their first bye week. That's 5 weeks for Dillon Gabriel to practice against opponents and get used to Stein's offense before heading into that gauntlet.
