If any of those SUC fans really think Oregon's going to stop pillaging their backyard they're in for a seriously rude awakening.

I had a gut feeling he was going to pick OBD despite what the prognosticators were saying about Texas. He expressed in an interview a desire to strike out a path of his own. Combine that with the fact that he visited Eugene several times already and it led to Sark being toast. 😃

That's also not surprising since he's the new guy and probably learning a whole new playbook from scratch. We'll know more once they make it through Fall training camp.

Another thing that I've pointed out to Fuskies that they can't stand is that DeBoer has been coaching for eons and could only muster 3 point wins over DL who was only in his 1st and 2nd years as an HC. They point out that DeBoer won so it doesn't matter. I point out (correctly) that the trend for the next 5 years favors DL.

When Harbaugh left I originally thought they'd take a big hit on defense but since then I've had to re-evaluate that position since they made a very good hire at DC. The offense however will take a step back, primarily because they're having to replace both QB and the OL....that's a lot to adjust to at once. OBD will have to deal with that in 2025.

Trey McNutt would be a big boost to the defensive backfield. I'll take 5* safties any day of the week!

If OBD make the CFP and have a good showing (i.e. win 2-3 games) then I don't doubt recruiting 5* guys will become visibly easier.

These articles are hilarious. They point the blame everywhere except the coaches. USC might very well be somewhat deficient in NIL (ironic given how much money is at that school) but most recruits want solid player development, to win games, AND have some NIL money. Riley's constant ignorance of defense is now catching up to him and it will take years to change that narrative. He needs to put a top 25 defense on that field for at least the next few years before high level defensive recruits take him seriously.

Matayo's on my list of break-out candidates as well. I hope he and Jordon Burch become a terrible two-some this season!

Getting just a couple of those 5* guys would be huge. Dakorien Moore would be awesome to pair with Dallas Wilson for Dante Moore/Austin Novasad/Akili Smith Jr. to target in the next 3+ years. DJ Pickett and/or Trey McNutt would be much needed high end talent in the DB room.

Riley can recruit however it's mostly offensive skill position players. Elite 5* defensive players would have private misgivings about committing to a head coach with a long and consistent history of ignoring that side of the ball, no matter who he hires for a DC.

He might be better served (career-wise) to concentrate on baseball. He's shown some flashes last season that support him becoming a very good linebacker (he'd have an opportunity to show it especially since guys like Bassa are leaving after next season) but he's already at a high level in baseball right now. This kid is seriously talented.

Plus why would they want to be part of a complete defensive rebuild where the HC doesn't really pay attention to that half of the team?

I'd be shocked if he didn't get 1100+ yards this upcoming season. Kid can steamroll with the best of 'em.
