  1. I could see McGee becoming more of a slot receiver, I think he has the skills for it.
  2. The RB room is crowded, I was half expecting at least one back to transfer even if Mario hadn't left.
  3. Only if we want 2* recruit's at db. Rod Chance runs circles around Lake when it comes to recruiting.
  4. Hmm, this might mean that he won't retain Joe Salave'a? Joe's not quite as good as a recruiter as Lupoi but I think he's a better DL coach.
  5. Josh Pate is always interesting to listen to. He brings up some good points in how Mario structured and recruited the Oregon program, making is very inviting for SEC coaches looking for new digs. In theory it sounds like it makes it an easier situation for Dan Lanning to get started quickly.
  6. It's the same scenario as when Taggart left with less than two weeks before early signing and it took a few days before it was decided Mario would be the head coach. By that time a lot of recruits decommited but he was able to salvage a high ranking class (I think 13?). If Lanning can recover a top 15 recruiting class by the time the regular signing period ends, I'd consider that a huge success.
  7. I don't think you can really compare Utah to Alabama...
  8. I highly doubt Chip would take a step down to OC when he's still a HC. UCLA still wants him around after all.
  9. If that's true then that's not a good start for Mario.
  10. I don't think Haener needed to apologize. His reasoning made sense to try the transfer portal and follow his old coach.
  11. How do we do that? When MC announced his departure Lincoln Riley already moved to USC, Brian Kelly to LSU, etc...a lot of dominos already fell leaving Oregon with the scraps. In the current climate, even BYU is playing hardcore defense by giving a big extension to Sitake. It's not a normal time right now when it comes to hiring coaches.
  12. Or that the candidate pool we want is really shallow right now. Oregon's HC search is pretty late in the game right now since the other big programs have already found their guys. The timing of MC's departure has really hamstrung the search in my opinion. I don't think it's a huge step down to pick up someone of Lanning's caliber. He's one of, if not the best assistant coach in the nation right now.
  13. It would definitely be intriguing to see him come onboard...if Lanning were to mold Oregon to a sub-10 ppg super defense? Now that would be pretty awesome.
  14. For the sake of speculation though....if Oregon were to go with a first time HC hire, Lanning certainly would be a top candidate. The game against Alabama not withstanding, Georgia has had an extremely stingy defense this year...allowing only 9.5 ppg this season so far. It would also at some interesting subplots given that Oregon and Georgia play next season
  15. The only thing we can say for sure is that Oregon has been doing a good job of controlling the flow of information out of their offices, no one really knows anything....it's all rumors and conjecture until we hear it directly from Mullens' mouth.
  16. Absolutely. But I understand why he'd take it, it's another "going home" scenario since he was at Nevada for so many years previously.
  17. I'm not surprised, Oregon is in an incredibly difficult position timing-wise. It's hard enough to land the "right" candidate for a HC but trying to do it within a week is really tough, especially given the caliber coach that most people expect Oregon should be able to pull in...I would think most candidates wouldn't be able to change their professional and private lives on a dime like that very easily.
  18. If that's really the case then it has to be Chip as he's the only one that's actually taken a program to a national championship game. I don't think Wilcox or Sitake have that kind of ceiling right now.
  19. Hoke is a far better HC or position coach than a DC. That being said, I doubt he's being considered by Mullens. If he's in Eugene then he may be doing some recruiting not interviewing for anything.
  20. When it comes to the mid-west and southeast? Probably not lol
  21. I would imagine that if Oregon dangled a contract similar to what they offered Mario would at least garner a look from both those guys. $8 million a year for 10 years? I'll even throw in scrubbing the toilets once a week for that salary.
  22. At least some of the state legislators (though I'm sure the school wasn't enthused with him leaving as well). Oklahoma is getting real salty with Lincoln Riley... It's pretty harmless but also a bit petty (and funny).
  23. It sounds like Dave Aranda might be the best choice for Oregon given that he's got a very recent track record of success, recruits well, and is originally from the West coast. Plus one of Lincoln Riley's worst losses has come at the hands of Aranda, so USC would be put on notice right away. The question is whether he would leave Baylor...he's voiced that he'd like to stay and Baylor said they were working on an extension for him but that was a couple weeks ago with no word of any progress. Sounds like maybe there's a slight opening there for Oregon to get at him?
