WBB: Stanford 66 Oregon 62
You do bring up a great point when you bring up how close this was to being a great couple of games for the Men's and Women's teams. Both outplayed their No.3 and No.2 ranked opponents for most of the games, had double digit leads. For most of the games both Oregon teams were outplaying their highly ranked opponents, looked like the top 10 teams they were expected to be at the start of the season. But at the end of both games, when it mattered the most, both Ducks teams, let the games get away. It was bad, but at least the Women beat Cal, while the Men lost to ASU.

Exactly. Everybody knew that, except perhaps, Richardson.

Stanford takes a 1-0 lead on a technical foul before the game starts, but after going 0-16 on 3's against Cal, Oregon hits its first 3 against Stanford.

And it was Oregon's problem this season, too much dribbling. It was noted on TV that for the last play the bigs were out, ball handler's and shooters were in. There were 7 seconds, plenty of time for the inbound pass to get to any of them, then he could pass it to another one, screens could be set. Something to make AZ work on defense. Instead, Richardson gets the ball, is guarded by a big. But instead of getting the ball to anybody else, eventually tries to get to the rim?

Bilas thought both calls were bad, and then AZ gets a foul on a moving screen.

I was thrilled when Lombardi got the job, and the things that Charls noted are examples of why she's right up there with Oregon's other great coaches. Hitting for average over hitting for the fences is one I'd go for. Homers are great and can still come from "precision" hitting. But the great Oregon teams were offensive threats because every batter in the line-up was dangerous.
