The Lanning Effect: Best Off-Season for Oregon Fans Yet?
30Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
What a bore this off season would have been if the Ducks had the DeBoer era to look forward to, or the Harsin or Wilcox? Instead there's an energy, and while there's a portion of every coaches Intro filled with what we want to hear, Lanning's had a palpable authenticity to it. Washington was on the coaching hunt before Oregon, and for now I say, was happy to get the coach from Fresno State. Did you hear all the buzz and excitement that hire created? Meanwhile Oregon grabbed the DC of the team that set records, won the championship and plays the Ducks in the first game next season. Lanning has us all checking the Portal, waiting for the Feb. Signing Day, and excited for the Spring game, and a glimpse of the new look offenses and defenses. A great time to be a Duck! -
I truly believe that Oregon State is in better position now than is Washington.
-
By now, we've gone over how thoroughly Oregon has dominated Washington. In the last 25 years, Oregon has the 8th most wins in the country.

For quite a while now Oregon and UC have carried the Pac-12, but neither have had a national impact. With Lanning and Riley, that should change. Now, I'm a Duck, so...Riley has the HC experience, but I like Lanning, and I definitely wouldn't trade him and his staff for Riley and his assistants, or team for that matter.

Every notice, twitter I see about Lanning and his new coaching staff it just gets better and better.

With the Riley Rocket at USC, and UCLA basketball winning. I don't see a big name coach interested in the job. Chip is there next season if he wants it.

Vegas not bowled over by the Utes. I think USC has its QB, but overall, Oregon is better, and OSU is at least 475-1.

Why is the ACC Holding up Playoff Expansion?
30Duck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I hate that Notre Dame has as much influence and power that it does. It hasn't won a championship since 1988, when Lou Holtz was their head coach. They got a deal with NBC, and ironically depend a lot on Stanford and USC. Next time Notre Dame raises its hand, ignore it. Oregon is a more vibrant brand, with wins and accomplishments to match since 1990. Oregon has 264 W's, Notre Dame, 247. -
Hutson gets it for that amazing catch in the Alamo Bowl alone, but Thonton certainly had flashes of brilliance and Franklin had some great catches all season. Dorlus> my mind explodes at how much he and Sewell, and the rest of the D can improve even more next season!

Without Rita, there was no chance anyway. -
USC's QB Jaxson Dart Entering Portal? Whew!

Completely agree. To get a product on the field that can play exciting, top level football today, not only do you need to play an exciting brand, you need the best players. This is what Saban, after railing against the up tempo tide, embraced it. and recruited the players, Alabama won the last two Heisman's with a WR, and QB.

Why Georgia's Win was Huge for Oregon? Recruiting!
30Duck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This is what I heard to, and more importantly as the article suggests, When Lanning hits the recruiting trail for years to come, he'll be able to flash a national title ring and point to the defense he helped nuild in Athens for a few years. It's going to wonders for recruiting and we're going to see the benefits of this national title almost immediately. -

Indeed, getting blown out would not a good loss make. -

I can't even pick against the Ducks in our Predict the Score. But, right now I have a better feeling about the Ducks in this one than I did for their chances at tOSU. A game for Oregon before this one would probably be good, the most improvement between 1 to 2, but it would be the same for Georgia. Get them as early as possible. If either of these teams will have any complacency it would be the defending Champ going against the runner-up of the Pac-12. After it's over, the Ducks will have a game to gauge themselves with, I think more usefully than Portland State would have done, and it will either be a great win, or a "very good loss." -
Oregon, Utah and USC all make the top 25 in this one.

Dan Lanning was the DC of Georgia's historic defense, and this article by Connor Muldowney Autzen Zoo explains how Georgia's championship is going to do so much at Oregon. Oregon football: Dan Lanning's national title will be huge for recruiting

You know the stigma of Alabama education?
-
That is great for the Utes, and a nice spot for the Ducks. No USC, no Miami in this one. Oklahoma at No. 25.

Who knows? Losing 19-8 to Georgia at "Neutral" Atlanta wouldn't be too bad. I don't expect Oregon to win this game, but I'll be very surprised if we see a flat Oregon team, Lanning will have his team fired up and if the Ducks keep building through the season as I'm expecting, that would be a "Good L" Utah at Florida, reason for optimism in this one as well.
