Let's Discuss! Big CFB Games (All Other Games on 10-12)
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm starting to think we need a guide for what teams we should be weekend fans of.... Because those are good additions. I mean throw Stanford in there to beat Notre Dame but that's probably a long shot. -
Let's Discuss! Big CFB Games (All Other Games on 10-12)
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Let's see.. Today ina addition of being a Duck fan I am also a temporary.... Iowa, Oklahoma and Penn State fan... Go teams! Beat the other teams I dislike more! -
I think the sweet spot is find a transfer QB with two years. First year may be good... But the second year could be something special. Next year will be telling for the Ducks We all expect Moore to be our QB 1 next year but we'll have to wait and see. Nothing is set in stone anymore. Everything is up for grabs and everything is a competition.

Hey Dilly-Dilly! Let's Discuss Friday Night Games...
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It's that middle or bottom middle of a conference that is usually the most interesting to watch from an entertainment point of view when they play each other. There is some wild stuff being thrown around. The top teams vs the mid to bottom usually are pretty boring games because the top has too many athletes. Top v top teams are exciting and lots going on... But they usually follow a meta game that is well tread. Nothing wrong with that but it doesn't usually bring in the surprise factor that lower tier teams bring. Just my thoughts anyway. This year as been interesting so far because I'd say there isn't a clear No. 1 team in the country. Texas's premier win over Michigan doesn't look too impressive anymore. There is a strong group of playoff contenders. But after that group... Everyone else looks pretty mediocre. If the old Pac-12 were around this year Oregon would be dominant by a mile. If the B1G without the West Coast schools were their own thing I think Ohio State would own this conference his year. Same goes for Texas in the old Big 12. The SEC though is a bit of a delightful mess. So we'll see how that shakes out. Also the B1G is going to see a major shift in who is the king of the hill tomorrow I feel. -
Hey Dilly-Dilly! Let's Discuss Friday Night Games...

Former Ducks OC Marcus Arroyo is the OC at ASU. Didn't know that. I know he was fired from UNLV a while ago. Didn't know what happened to him until now. -
A Buckeye Declaration That Will NOT Age Well...
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I get what you're saying... But I think in a year or two I'll miss it. It's the history that makes those games and rivalries special. -
Is Oregon’s National Perception About to POP?
David Marsh replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Funny how Ohio State fans seem to forget the 2021 game. That was not an exceptional Oregon team but still won. -
Will Jordan Burch be Ready to Play in the B1G Game?
David Marsh replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Well... I'll just point out that in 2021 we beat Ohio State without Kayvon Thibodeux as he was out with an injury. I'd still rather have Burch on the field tomorrow. -
It’s Time for a Centralized Authority on Officiating
David Marsh replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I know it's TV analysis but I feel they do a very good job getting all the angles and slow mo to the fans in no time at all. And the standard is so high to overturn something I'd think they could have the answer if it can even be reviewed in seconds. I mean the Minnesota game winning TD against USC was effectively non-reviewable and the previous play before it. It's a mass of bodies and you can barely see the QB let alone the ball. I feel the refs should just be honest and say. "The play cannot be reviewed as there is no video evidence that can determine ball placement" bam! Moving on. I know it was mentioned earlier about getting a sensor in the ball... The reality is that it'd probably just need a chip and it'd probably be easiest to have a system set up at the goal line. You'd basically need something to create a virtual barrier that can detect the ball breaking the plane. Anywhere else on the field would probably be too difficult for the NCAA to pioneer so we'd probably see this whole system developed and executed at the NFL level first. In truth I don't mind as much about refs placing the ball and making most of those calls. But it would be nice for plays like that Minnesota one if the ball broke the plane. But would refs want visual evidence as well? Probably. -
It’s Time for a Centralized Authority on Officiating
David Marsh replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I thought about going into pay but it felt tacted on. But refs should absolutely be paid as professionals. Many do this as a second job or have a second job at least. They should really be paid and trained and make this a full time job that pays enough for it to be their job. -
It’s Time for a Centralized Authority on Officiating

I agree there should be levels of targeting. The top most being flagrant targeting that also has a level of intent. This would be the hardest to prove but it would carry the most severe penalty. I do believe that anyone officiating should be able to flag targeting. Though what we are seeing more and more is that not everyone has their own definitions. So to standardize it there should be a team of replay officials in an office somewhere that gets forwarded the plays for targeting so they can review them. This could slow the game down a bit. I'm sure but less from a tech stand point. Most replay officials are already remote. But if there is a que for targeting reviews... Which would just mean they'd have to hire more people. But that would also mean that targeting was consistent. -
UNIFORMS: Let the Darkness Rain Down on Ohio State
David Marsh replied to cartm25's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I like these uniforms. But I'm kinda with Charles. This is the BIGGEST game of the regular season and I wouldn't mind seeing something that pops more. Also.... I feel this would be a fantastic game for a yellow out. Friday was good ... But this is the primer game of the weekend. I want the angry highlighters back this game personally. -
A Video Journey of My Hatred of Ohio State
David Marsh replied to cartm25's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I work with a Michigan fan... this week he gets to be a Duck fan because of his hate for Ohio State. I was a Michigan fan last week and earlier this season when they played USC. Though I am back to being indifferent about Michigan. Though I'm sure we'll have loads of Michigan fans rooting for us this weekend. -
Oregon Offense: Will Stein Backs Up His Vow
David Marsh replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The biggest difference now from the Kelly years is that I feel we have the linemen to make this actually work now. The problem with the Kelly-Helfrich offense was that once it slowed down opposing teams could get stops more regularly, even on plays that were ripping them to shreds earlier in the game. Oregon's high scoring offense back then was interlocked with its speed because we didn't have the big and bruiser offensive linemen that could run as much consistent power plays. Now... we can slow things down and still get chunk yards and keep the team on the field. I believe a series last week went for eight minutes of game time! (if it wasn't last week it was the week before). That's just insane because those are constant chunk plays that kept the Ducks ahead of the chains but also relatively few explosion plays (if any) because of the amount of clock it burned. -
Ohio State Game Articles, Information and Prep
David Marsh replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Interesting stuff.. But to be honest they don't talk about Oregon's defense at all and seem to not know anything about it. Sure Oregon didn't cover against MSU. Probably for two reasons... 1. Gabriel had two bad interceptions that could have been points. 2. The defensivr starters got to sit on the bench and give the backups some time. That's when MSU scored. They didn't score on our starters. This preview seems to be more usual easy coast fare... They know Oregon is good but don't seem to know the team. -
ESPN Computer Picks Ohio State to Beat Oregon
David Marsh replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That's why we play this game on the field. Ohio State was supposed to win in 2021... We know how that went. Talent is pretty equal... Though probably a slight edge to Ohio State. So it all comes down to execution and motivation. Does Lanning have something up his sleeve? We'll find out in less than a week! -
USC could very well have won both games. But I think it might actually be harder for Easter coast teams to come west than West Coast teams to go east. West Coast teams can reasonably practice in the morning and a 9am start time isn't that crazy. But how do you reasonably train for a game that starts at 6pm PST (9pm east cost). I mean it's possible but that just feels more difficult to try and plan for... And I think it's underestimated how much of an impact that could have.

Funny you should mention it... I wrote an article about it a while ago. Lincoln Riley is a Perfect Fit for USC and That’s Their Problem |... FISHDUCK.COM It has been absolutely delightful as Duck fans to watch USC’s problems, not only this year but over more than... Trojan fans could have lost their proverbial (insert explative here) if they hired Dan Lanning, a up and coming defensive coordinator. They want big names and flash.

There is nothing wrong with the pistol. If used correctly it can merge power and flexibility as it's based alignment allows the running back to make their approach on either side of the quarterback. It can go down the middle or bounce to the outside... Or any other way you want to use this formation. Cristobal used it basically like a worse I-formsation and ran players right into A-gaps. Also... Anyone else watch Cristobal's beloved offensive line get mostly worked over by Cal last night? Yeah... We upgraded big with Lanning.

Canzano: Informative and Makes Me Want to Hurl...
David Marsh replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think in terms of an entertaining product there was nothing wrong with Pac-12 football. It was darn entertaining and had some of the most competitive games in the country. However... Was it competitive outside of the conference? Not so much outside of the top teams and even then not regularly competitive. -
A more interesting break down of the first 32 games.

Only because they went to Nick Saban's Head Coaching Rehabilitation Center for a few years.

Oof.... Clay Helton was better through 32 games? Helton did get a conference championship. And Lincoln Riley isn't happy with reporter's questions.. Trojans aren't happy... And this is the conference they choose to join and put everything in motion to kill the Pac-12.
