  1. The biggest factor that they get out of having highly talented players local are the unofficial visits. These are visits that players pay for themselves and show up to the school and get to be around the staff and players. If the big recruits are local these happen ALL the time. Oregon getting unofficial visits usually means that player and their family is getting on several planes to make it to Eugene. It's a cost in time and money. Unlimited Official Visits Will Only Make College Football Worse |... FISHDUCK.COM College Football has always been composed of the “haves” and “have-nots” and that isn’t going to change, but there is a desire to make the sport more…
  2. In terms of traditional recruiting Oregon is always going to have a disadvantage due to location. But we'll get enough star power to build a strong roster and stack classes. But it's Lanning's ability to dive into he portal so far that has really separated him from other teams. However, we will get a better view of this team next year when those youngsters he's brought in will be upper classmen and will begin taking more reps and owning the team. Keep in mind that Smart and Saban recruited five stars not with the thought they'd play on day one but rather they become the backbone of the team in year 2-4. We haven't quite seen that out of Lanning's team just yet.
  3. I would ALSO like a tight end... I have a feeling we'll get one soon enough.
  4. I think the defense for against allowing mid season transfers goes to school enrollment. Enrollment closes on classes at some point and athletes moving to different institutions during a season cannot necessarily enroll in classes which is still a major component of college athletics. As it stands right now they still need to be students.
  5. Depends on the recruiting service. Some services do take the quantity into account while others do not for their final rankings. But the biggest thing that usually matters is average rating. If you sign 30 3 stars that's not better than signing 15 4 stars.
  6. Cal is the team that I do think they have the most potential and the most to prove. Cal would be a lot higher if they beat FSU who doesn't look all that good. As always with my power rankings which I have posted in the past though always as a Forum post and not an article, these are snapshot in time. In a week or two I think that Cal rises up these rankings and OSU may fall a bit.
  7. That was a big one.... And it should hopefully get the ball rolling again in recruiting.
  8. Sanders is in year two at Colorado and he did increase their win total by a good margin in his first year from the previous year. It's normal for any coach in that position to have a cool seat. But I'd be shocked with Sheduer makes it through the season without some sort of game affecting injury. If the sacks keep coming his body won't stand up to it all.
  9. Interesting development... But Lanning wasn't interested in him the first time around. I kinda doubt he'll be interested this time around.
  10. Get a VPN like Nord and move your location to somewhere where it is in that Zip? I know some things like YouTube TV won't work if it's through a VPN though and I'm. It sure if it's work on sling. If you can get a free trial of a VPN it would be worth a shot though.
  11. The reality is that they wanted to swing big and try and capture the cream of the G5 schools and try and leverage that into something equal to a Big 12... In truth it wouldn't be far off but it would still be a step down. They missed in their efforts. Now they are trying to not fail. Merging with the Mountain West would be much easier at this point but that would be admitting a defeat.
  12. I mean all of our current interest is based on the drama and the train wreck that this is... it gives us something to talk about. I tuned in to part of the WSU and OSU games last week but I didn't watch their entirety. I don't think that will hold my interest to even both checking in on the game in future years... I doubt I will even check the box scores all that often. I don't check the box scores all that often as it is for G5 teams but only when I am doing some basic research for an article or forum post.
  13. We have already seen players who were rotational players but with a lot of upside opt to stop playing and preserve their redshirt so they can transfer and get a better pay day elsewhere or just keep their college career going. Kris Hudson didn't play last year other than a handful of snaps because he lost his starting spot at Oregon and wanted to transfer in order to try and help his NFL stock. He is now a valuable piece to the Washington State offense. Not sure it will help his NFL stock though playing for the Cougs.
  14. I think that was the intention but it didn't pan out for a couple reasons. 1. Everything dissolved so quickly. Once Colorado said they're leaving the media deal was released and it was sub-optimal to say the least. The Big 12 continued to push for the Arizona Schools and once Fox's B1G then swooped in to grab Oregon and Washington at half price for a few years and the Big 12 grabbed the Arizona Schools and Utah. 2. Agree with it or not... the legal case about control of the Pac-12 residing with the remaining members was based on the precedent that once members announced their leaving the conference (at first USC and UCLA) they lost voting rights in the conference. Colorado lost their voting rights on policy once they announced their leaving. So in keeping with consistency once everyone but OSU and WSU announced they're leaving those two got control of the conference. There was a desire by all the schools leaving to dissolve the conference and distribute resources but a judge ruled that because of the precedent set that members leaving lost their voting power the resources were forfeited. A lot of Duck fans are upset by this and I am not taking a side on whether this is right or not... but that is an explanation and logic used behind what happened.
  15. Like many parents with young children, I right now love night games. I get the kids to bed and I get sit down with a nice cup of tea (I have UK citizenship along with US citizenship so... tea while watching American football feels like a perfect mesh) and then get to mutter to myself about every single play whether it is good or bad. Sounds like a wonderful evening!
  16. Well the two left over conferences will be the Big 12 (already a left over conference) and the ACC (once the break up starts).
  17. Black helmets with the white jerseys that haven't been officially revealed yet. Probably black helmet , white jersey, and black pants. It will probably look excellent. The black helmet doesn't quite work with the whites we wore last week.
  18. Not at all surprised. We're prime late night material. I kinda knew this was coming. If we're not playing a top tier team then we'll get the late game. Just maybe on a better network. In truth we only got stuck on the pac-12 network once or twice a year because we're the Ducks. We were usually on ESPN or Fox for the late night. And we still are (but not ESPN because contracts). Getting put on Peacock is basically like being put in the Pac-13 network. That happened once already for a night game for us.
  19. I think we have a starting five on the OL that will work out just fine. If we get Bedford back he will return as a depth player this season and not a starter. Part of me wants to say if he's not ready to play next week then it might be worth getting a medical redshirt for him and bring him back next year.
  20. What FCS schools want to join the FBS? I don't think North Dakota wants it. One of the Montana schools maybe? Eastern Washington? Portland State can't afford it. But if Eastern Washington and Boise State are in the same conference then it becomes the conference of awfully colored fields and I guess oregon.state should make their field orange and just join the dumb colors.
  21. I know I've said it elsewhere.... But also waiting for the ACC to break apart is worth their while. Also the scrap-6 will probably get a media deal around 10-15 mil per school and be relagated to late night programming. I figure the schools they got so far are probably worth 10mil (slightly higher than current MW pay out and a LOT lower than what the pac-12 was getting before the break up) for the late night programming. So for those AAC schools they'll have to travel more and play late at night on the east Coast. Wait for the ACC to break up and get into a tier 2 conference and not a tier 3.
  22. I mean Justin Herbert made Oregon a playoff caliber team. They just couldn't get there because of some poor plays in some key games... vs Auburn and vs ASU. If it was a 12 team playoff the Ducks would have made it into the playoff that year.
  23. We also have a lot of teams that still have to play each other and injuries always throw a wrench projections.
  24. They will have to determine who the highest ranked is because the format says automatic bid for the 5 highest ranked conference champions. As there are only 4 P4 conferences and 5 other conferences they'll have to determine who the best is for that spot. Which would mean doing a ranking outside the top 25. I have a feeling the committee would determine this behind closed doors and just slip in a 5th conference champion into the top 25 to make it easy on themselves. Doesn't mean it's fair or right ... Just the way it'll be.
