  1. Yes, it's got to be demoralizing playing in this offense. The lineman feel defeated, the WR's get very few opportunites.... why come to Oregon????
  2. Agree, but that would seem to make too much sense for Mario. He's gotta play "tough" not "smart."
  3. Need to do something as the status quo will get us to 8-4.
  4. That's what I've said the last couple years, when the offense is lackluster and casually taking their time between plays, very lethargic.... light a fire by going with some temp to get things going... but nope.
  5. Yeah, gotta get ahead of the problem and act before the negative act occurs... such as a loss to Stanford. I think the likes of Saban would have made the QB change earlier, would have seen the inevitable and did would he could to stop it. I mean, we all saw this coming, if not Stanford then in in the very near future.
  6. I was in Boise this past weekend watching Boise St versus Nevada, and could help but think, "why can't the Ducks throw the ball like these guys?" It's time for a change.
  7. I like it. MC just needs to let Moorhead cook and then get out if the kitchen.
  8. Hopefully they will continue to improve.
  9. I think it's simple, you can't foresee the future, so you hire the best coach available whether from within or without. I mean, do we really want Mario to hire an "ok" coach or promote from within because he thinks the guy will stick around for a long-time? Nah. Saban is on, what, his 7th or 8th OC? Success breeds your coordinators getting raided on a continual basis as most of them have head coaching aspirations.
  10. Agree, the WR talent was lacking but I maintain that was only part of the story. The play calling and scheming was lacking. .... The highlight reel fastball he threw to Keenan Allen was amazing! Thanks
  11. Agreed. Of course he wouldn't to benefit a single player's stats or try to produce a #1 pick, but he should have changed the offense to score more points and win more games. Scheming in a way that would have maximized Herbert's talent would have done this and the by product would have been greater stats for Herbert and a better shot at the top pick.
  12. Yeah it would be nice to see the Ducks expand the tight end role. But with the O-line being Mario's pet position, he's more inclined to have tight ends focus on his favorite thing, blocking!
  13. I see your point and that makes sense, yes, he received coaching and developed as a player with the Ducks. But, God-given ability can take a person far, and Herbert has plenty. As well as a work ethic, intelligence, and drive to get better (He also stepped in as skinny true freshman and played at a much more mature level, with little college coaching to that point) So, when but when you look at the inconsistent and underperforming offense it just seems to me that, yes, his success has been in spite of the offense scheming and coaching with the Ducks.
  14. No doubt about it, MC did NOT make Herbert ready-made, he was ready-made in spite of the offensive coaching at Oregon that did not unleash his full potential, which in my opinion, is what cost him the No. 1 pick..... And I don't know, I think the media and scouts were biased towards Tua because he was the media darling and was the golden boy at Alabama, while Herbert was perceived as quiet (like Mariota) and there was a sense of "here we go again, with another soft-spoken Oregon quarterback." In fact, I recall one pundit saying just that.
  15. Yeah, he's not a natural in interviews so he sticks to safe answers, which at this stage in his career is smart. I'm sure he'll open up and show more personality as he gets older..... and very true, there are good lessons to be taught in losing games.
  16. Ha! The No Fun League at it again. At least, from what I can see, the image is still there.....
  17. Thanks. It still blows me away how he stepped in with so very little learning curve.
  18. I don't know... He steps in as rookie and sets the league on fire and gets ROY. You can't really do that if you have poor mechanics and can't read a defense. I don't think there was anything magical that Chargers did to "fix" him, other than allow him to do what he does best... sling the football around with that rifle arm of his. They put him in a position to succeed instead of holding him back.
  19. Oh absolutely. Chargers are a way better situation. But just trying to bring to light the reasons why he went to 6. And of course there's always something to be said about going number 1, very prestigious for the player and the school (IMHO).
  20. Well, well, well... the 10th pick in 2002 was.... the Bengals!!!! Carson Palmer got picked No.1 the next year and had some success, but ultimately left the organization because he couldn't stand them any longer.
  21. Agree.... BUT, and please don't take me word for it, while I have a high level knowledge, I'm certainly not an X's and O's junkie. But listening to various pundits and former coaches over the past three seasons, in paticular former DC Nick Aliotti, the Oregon offense had become predictable and easy to defend. I specifically recall Aliotti saying, "the defense knows what Oregon is going to do before they do it." .... Yikes! It would really be interesting to hear what new DC Tim DeRuyter has to say about defending the Ducks offense. Having finally gotten some decent talent at Cal the past couple years and holding the Ducks to 17 points the past two seasons.
  22. No, not at all calling for the Ducks to return to the days of Chip and Helf, if that's what you're implying. The rest of college football has long caught up to that. And the days of an SEC team winning with a conservative ball control offense are long gone as well.... Nowadays you have ot have an explosive offense paired with a great defense to win it all. What I'm calling for is the Ducks to get with what it takes to win it all today! And I think denfensively we're on the right track with the upgrade at coaching and talent. Time to match that talent with results on the field. But offensively, we seem to still be dealing with Mario's medaling we won't win it all. As Charles has mentioned in the past, (paraphrasing) Oregon can't win it all with the way the current offense is constructed. And Oregon has long been a school where players came to get "coached up." From Brooks to Bellotti to Chip (ok maybe not Helf).... the Ducks consistently punched above their weight class.
  23. Was it too late? (in regards to firing Scott) I don't think so, I don't think we're on red alert quite yet, but deep into yellow alert for sure. If the right hire is made, the gap between the Pac-12 and evreybody else should slowly but surely go away. It's take several years, maybe a decade, but it can happen.
  24. It's amazing that USC, in the 2nd largest television market, is so far down. But, that's the west-coast for you, that's the Pac-12 foot-print. Our region as a whole just doesn't care as much as the rest of the country does. I mean heck, LA went 22 years without and NFL team. That would be unfathomable in most cities that currently have a team. Even Cleveland got a team back in 4 years! Larry has alot of money left to be paid, so that probably played a part in why it took so long. But now he's gone, we can only focus on the future, and the right hire can get the Pac-12 back to where it should be ..... oh, and, uh, if USC could ever get their sh*t together!
