  1. Exciting take about Oregon and Dan Lanning...
  2. Fantastic point. Imagine if Dano was recruiting to a school in Ohio, or Georgia, or Texas.
  3. I agree with that, but with the way he is recruiting the high school talent...it is only a matter of another two years before all this superb recruiting at the HS level truly comes to fruition. I also agree with you in that he will always rely on the portal to plug holes, or to add when exceptional opportunity presents itself, but I do believe the number of starters from the portal will be a ton less in three years. And if not? No problem, as Dano has shown already that with the portal he's....
  4. Quotes like below from the article above never get old... "Riley might have made appropriate staffing adjustments, but the residue of last year’s failed 8-5 season likely contributed to Harmon choosing Oregon over USC. The Ducks are closer to a national title than the Trojans are. Harmon’s decision can be seen as rational in that context." Interesting note....the author of the article, a hardcore Trojan, actually shot pictures for FishDuck when we played at USC years ago... And he is still helping me with quotes like that!
  5. Before the move to the B1G....remember the chortling of Trojan fans?
  6. I wish I could change the popular narrative of the two Washington losses last year. Most focus on the fourth down plays, (of which Bo blew one of them, yet Stein gets the grief) but nobody takes into account THE major factor for those losses. The second half of the first UW game and the entire second UW game was played by the Oregon defense without BOTH corner starters. Yes the reserves were adequate, but when you consider how good Jahlil Florence and Khyree Jackson were as starters....and we only lost by three points to an extraordinary passing team? Do you all think that our corner starters are worth at least THREE points? I do, and I believe it is the primary component in the loss. Against a primarily running team? No. But against that very skilled passing opponent--the slightest margin of talent made all the difference in a game such as that. I should copy this off and refer to it often over the years...
  7. The best recruiter is a tall order, considering what is occurring around the nation at the nation's elite programs. Yet you make a great case, and adding the retention element is crucial, as anyone can check Colorado as the "prime" example. They brought in a ton of transfers, and the revolving door continues, with the 'Buffs losing many players they wished would stay. Another element to this is his astounding rate of success with who transfer in; very, very few portal players have not worked out for Oregon which points to amazing research and vetting by the staff and in the player visits. Lanning does not have a juggernaut like Alabama, Georgia or Ohio State....yet. But he is succeeding at a level well above his weight class, and it has many of us fans shaking our heads at all the good fortune. The real test is if you take Division Street and all of Oregon's resources and plug in a different coach? You do not get the same results. Lanning is exceptional! Come to Oregon!
  8. It's OK to have a different opinion; if he runs a 4.80 as you say--then he won't be playing, and it will sort itself out soon enough. We have a lot of safeties in the room, thus by comparison--his speed will be revealed early on.
  9. I believe that No. 44 Teitum Tuioti is the next big success at Edge, the elite pass-rusher. He had two sacks last year, but had 2.5 in the Spring Game alone? That is development, but he also showed extraordinary skills covering the pass downfield against one of the best tight ends in the nation, Terrance Ferguson. He is quite the athlete.... I believe when the season is done--he will have the most sacks.
  10. Maybe I should consider that as well?
  11. I'm sure USC will be fine...
  12. The same after seven innings.
  13. Same, down 4-3 after six innings.
  14. Crap! We trail 4-3, but left the bases loaded and stranded!
  15. So sad...makes me want to CRY!
  16. Yikes. Down 4-2 after four innings!
  17. Ducks lead 2-1 after three innings by a Home Run bomb that hit the top of the scoreboard, and was preserved with a sweet double-play!
  18. It is tied 1-1 after two innings. Maddox Molony just broke the freshman home run record with his eighth home run...and he did not even play much the first third of the season due to injury!
  19. Oregon is now tied for second in the Pac-12 with Utah, so whoever wins this game will be a full game up on No. 3 in the conference. Big game!
  20. I would disagree. Not only has the team been improved, but this defense will be that much more interesting and entertaining to watch this fall. High level college football has been improved as more of the higher end talent assemble at the better programs. As noted in my analysis...somebody was probably going to go with all the current defensive line talent, and considering the four new DT/NT recruits brought in. It is the nature of college football now, that whoever is not poised to play anytime soon will probably transfer. Look at the bright side....we'll probably see him again when we play Washington. While he will improve, I like the upside of what we are left with better.
