As you know, the score was 47-32 Oklahoma, for a 15 point spread. There were no sacks or turnovers created by Oregon, and the Ducks' passing yardage was 306 net yards. Boomer: 41-26 Oklahoma, 15 point spread, 2, 2, 241 passing yards. GODUCKS15: 41-27 Oklahoma, 14 point spread, 0, 1, 210 Yours Truly: 34-20 Oklahoma, 14 point spread, 1, 1, 221 Troy Franklin's Amazing Catch!

What Could've, Would've, Should've, No, Will Be!
Charles Fischer replied to Haywarduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Amen Duck-Brother. He did it in the Spring Game and in one of the few appearances he was allowed to play during the season....shut out until now. When I heard all the WR starters were out--I was hoping this would happen to give them confidence in their game, staying at Oregon and for the fans to see the potential. -
Truthfully...I don't know any more than you, but I was very impressed with Butterfield in the Spring and Colorado Games. I compare the three quarterbacks this way to prior Oregon greats, and this based on my WAG, as I am not at practices. --Ty Thompson is between a Justin Herbert and Marcus Mariota profile. --Jay Butterfield is AJ Feeley again. --Robby Ashford is another Dennis Dixon. I do not have anything to base this on other than the Spring Game and the Colorado game, but I sense an "it" factor with Jay when it comes to the passing part of the game. If we went to a Pro-Style, then Butterfield would be the best matchup. If we stayed with the Spread, but were serious about the QB pulling the ball and running when the "read-key" determined it? That would be Ashford. And I suspect that Thompson could excel in either... I am just curious-as-hell to see what a new batch of coaches sees in our quarterbacks...or not.

Well, I think a couple of factors are in play...these new young receivers have the ability to get open, and were held back to show "loyalty" to JJ III and Redd. Thornton did it in the Spring Game, then in the Colorado game...and proved his talent so well getting explosion plays...that they never went to him again! (Until last night) This is why I thought JJIII would lose his job to a freshman by mid-season. The talent by the newbies was there, but the coaching was not. Yes Brown did better, but it does not change his inability to see the field, process quickly and lead the receivers better in his throws. He also panics under pressure, and that was evident a few times last night as well. I believe Jay Butterfield could carve defenses up with these receivers and tight ends!

Running Back Room Filled: Credit Mastro?
Charles Fischer replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
We do not have any running backs like what we faced last night other than Travis Dye, IMHO. Cardwell still has a ways to go, and it is apparent some things do not come natural to him as they do to the elite RBs. -
My Favorite Plays of the Bowl Game...
Charles Fischer replied to woundedknees's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The catch by Hutson was absolutely incredible... -
Boy...I am not ready to go that far...

Well....we scored 32 points, and that was the season point-per-game average. But I agree with your overall premise--now the young-gun receivers are let loose...look out! And I of all people am glad that what I began as one of the few voices a few years ago concerning Mario and his offense--is now accepted as truth.

Young Ducks Shine: "Terrifying Receiver Corp?"
Charles Fischer replied to Log Haulin's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
When you consider how little they played and to emerge, to gain the confidence before our eyes...I agree with Log Haulin. Oregon could have a very potent offense in the future! -
I cannot imagine him not going to the NFL Draft, as I am not sure what another year will do for him. His performance in the Ohio State game alone shouted that he was ready, but below is a good summary of what he said last night. "Where the hell has that been all season?!?!?" Amen, but we did get to see tons of passes thrown behind receivers on crossing patterns such as the first interception! And I love this community. We have something special going on here, and we haven't even completed three months yet? Whew!

So we had ONE scholarship linebacker in the second half and he was a converted safety. An offensive lineman playing major minutes on the defensive line and not knowing what he was doing, with other major D-L cogs out, (like Thibs) and then we start two inexperienced corners because Wright and James left? In the end...how many actual starters were playing on defense? Any wonder we could not stop the Sooners? It will get better on defense...a LOT better.

The Ducks are really close...just a few players away from being very, very good. I believe we have the quarterback we need in house, and that will become apparent this spring. Receivers, offensive line, running backs and tight end are loaded. Get a few more players on defense and we are there. (Can you say Portal?) Add the expertise of Lanning to that defense, and perhaps an offense that could average 40 points per game instead of the present 31? We are then doing double-digit wins, easy, IMHO. See how plausible that is? Not my Mascot...
