National notice of our recruiting prowess
Nice article, although I use the more reliable Rivals.com rankings that this year--places us higher. Other years, not... (Thanks for posting 1Funduck!) On Rivals...the disparity of recruiting within our conference becomes more stark when compared to other teams and conferences. No. 3 Oregon No. 8 USC No. 31 UCLA (Wow, what a drop for the conference from No. 8 to No. 31!) No. 34 Utah No. 39 Cal No. 42 Washington No. 49 Washington State No. 50 Stanford No. 61 Arizona State No. 63 Colorado No. 73 Arizona No. 100+ Oregon State (A ton of former 4-Star transfers coming in) This is a good coach...

COVID Concerns: Should Conference Basketball Tournaments be Cancelled?
I'll go along with that, as it is pretty simple. So why haven't they done that? (I believe it is to keep the scam going) Jon--it is about time we disagreed on something, and this is why I want to see other opinions. (I am not in favor of a national tournament as you describe as it would diminish the regular season that much further, IMHO.)

What's That, Washington?
I do not know the specifics, but they were having a bunch of experienced receivers transfer out, and I thought I read that Puka Nacua was thinking of it or had. Rumors, and perhaps others can confirm one way or another?

No. 6? WRONG....Try No. 3 Recruiting Ranking!
There is a lot written out there that Oregon is No. 6 with 247Sports, and again--I follow and ask our writers at FishDuck to use rankings from Rivals.com. Why? Because for years the rankings done by Scout.com (of which is now 247 Sports) were highly biased and just plain incompetent. Oregon gets a verbal and suddenly he loses a star....Huskies get a verbal and the recruit gains a star, because the owner of Scout.com was a Husky. So that is why when I am comparing to the past--I want consistency of recruiting rankings, and only Rivals.com does that. So Oregon's ranking of No. 3 is right here. With that....the margin Oregon has over the No. 4 through No. 8 is pretty small, and if any sign later with one of them--the Ducks will drop. On the other hand...if we get JTT later? Well we secure our position, because I do not see us bumping up further. It is all good-or-good!

Mario Makes Sure you Know the New DC is an "Upgrade"
Apparently in the Signing Day presentation...he stated about the hirings without being asked, "every chance we have to bring somebody in, we end up getting an upgrade." Whoa...is that a shot at Avalos? And again...it was quite curious to see players give a warm goodbye to Keith Heyward, but with Avalos....crickets. And that went both ways, thus there is an internal story there nobody is talking about. If you want to learn all about the recruits and have the time--here you go. An interview with just Cristobal...

USC 25-man limit?
On Rivals, they list 22 as signed, and if they have four transfers....one of them will have to wait for a scholarship, I believe.

Top Heavy: Do we WANT Recruiting Balance in the Pac-12?
Heck no! I want Oregon to always clean-up, and we are like never before under Coach Mario Cristobal. I gauge our success in recruiting by how many 4-Star and 5-Star players (rankings by Rivals.com) the Ducks sign. Up until recently--the best was 12 signed in a year (twice) by Mike Bellotti and Chip Kelly. Two years ago Coach Cristobal shattered through that with signing 14, and now this year has busted through that again with an astounding 18 of the coveted players out of a total of 23 signed thus far. Oregon is still pursuing JTT, and will leave an opening for any attractive transfers that appear in the portal. But it certainly appears that the conference is going to become quite top-heavy concerning talent before long. The number of 4-Star and 5-Star players that choose the other schools... The Top: Oregon 18 USC 17 35 The Rest: Washington 6 Utah 4 Arizona St. 4 UCLA 3 Cal 2 (No wonder DeRuyter left, as the only two were on offense!) Stanford 1 (How far they have fallen in recruiting!) WSU 1 Colorado 1 Arizona 0 OSU 0 22 Oregon and USC have 61% of all the best players signed (35) for an average of 17.50 of the 4 and 5 Star players each. Ten other teams share only 39%, or only 22 of the best players for an average of 2.2 per team. Thoughts? I know that I not only don't mind it, but am pretty pleased...

Signing Day Thread: Two Down....More to Go?
Signing Day LOI in February used to be a big-deal, and now it is an after-thought to the December signings. You can read about the two that signed this morning at GoDucks.com and the page for the bios of all the signees is right here, although the writer of these bios would get his rear-end kicked if he was a FishDuck writer. No paragraph spacing....sheesh.

COVID Concerns: Should Conference Basketball Tournaments be Cancelled?
First...to everyone; this article is about COVID, yes. But we can avoid talking politics if we want to, and we have to with the rules. The topic is about the conference tournaments and whether we have them due to COVID, and I thought Coach Nordy did a super job of bringing up that concern while stepping aside from the quicksand that is COVID discussions. I am an old fuddy-duddy, as I have never liked the conference tournaments because it cheapens the championship of the regular season. A conference representative should be based on the grind of all the tough conference games, and not a hot couple of days at the end of the season. The reality is that conferences use it as a way to get another team into the tournament and the West Coast Conference is a prime example. Let's say Gonzaga rests their starters and St. Mary's pulls off the conference tournament upset. Normally the NCAA would only grant the winner, usually Gonzaga, the slot to the NCAA tournament, but now they have to allow St. Mary's as well. To me, it is a well-worn scam that the ACC began many years ago. So yes....cancel the Pac-12 Tournaments. They are bogus to begin with and no need to jeopardize the teams with exposure to COVID in the process.

Take a Bow Everyone: First Month OBD Forum Stats! Wow!
My FishDuck Friends....I am so surprised and delighted with the Analytics of this forum for the first month as reported by Google. I am familiar with the averages of page views on FishDuck, (the site with the articles) as an article is a page, thus page views tell me how many articles are being read or how many are on the front page, etc. Thus I compare page views here on the Our Beloved Ducks Forum, (OBD) to FishDuck to gauge our first month. Last year FishDuck was in the Top 1% in the World again for pages read with an average of 4,225 pages per day. This last week--the forum averaged 3,643 pages per day...only 14% below the superb number of FishDuck! (Omigosh! Charles...calm down...) Yesterday, (a Monday during a slow time) garnered 4,382 page views! The point is....we are on our way my friends! How can THAT be Mr. FishDuck, with what appears to be a Low Number of Views and Posts? Yep...when you look at views and replies on the right of each topic...it does not appear to be very impressive, yet there have been more surprises as I dug through the data... --The total number of posts people are writing between new topics and replies are right at the same levels at OBD as we had with the comments below FishDuck already after only one month! --People are reading tons of posts every day that go way down the page. On a given day I look at the numbers on all topics and the depth of reading so many posts stunned me. People that come are liking to read the majority of what we post as topics. --Most were in the United States, but we had a good number in Canada and a half dozen other countries, yet the surprise was five households in the Marshall Islands that averaged six minutes per visit! ??? The top city was Portland with Eugene a close second... Top OBD Posts for the Month of January: No. 1: The Coach Boles article from FishDuck, "My Top 5 Candidates to Become Oregon's Defensive Coordinator" No. 2: "Brown or Shough? The Choice is Clear Here" posted by 30Duck who brought in a tweet and began a superb discussion. No. 3: The Joshua Whitted article from FishDuck, "Oregon is Poised to Land a HUGE Commitment Today" What Does this MEAN? Well, for one thing....it means I will have to turn sideways to get my swelled head through a doorway. (There is NO revenue from either site, so I gotta get intangible bennies...) But it means we are doing much better than I thought, and when you consider it is new and we are entering a slow two-month period--I am pleased. In fact the timing is perfect. Huh? I have a steep learning curve with this forum software, and I would not want to be going through that during a busy time. I have a ton left to learn, and my friends....you gotta believe me on this, as the Best is Yet to Be with features yet to be added. What CAN WE DO to Help? I thought you'd never ask! --Go up to the sign-in area and click on your image or letter/number that represents your Posting Name. Go in and finish your profile please! --Go up to the directions and go into the Posting Box directions and learn all the cool features that take only minutes to learn and seconds to do. Great fun! --If you would like to help me pay for the expenses of this OBD forum and FishDuck....please go to this page here, and scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Donate." (And God Bless the few who are donating every month--it really helps and I am grateful) --Get in there and POST your thoughts to everything! What is so cool is how everyone is protected as even the most off-the-spectrum-view has to be treated with polite and respectful responses. Oh we love a good debate, but this community has learned how to debate the subject and not go after each other. You all are a very special treasure--cherish these Ducks! This is going to be a great year of learning, of watching the drama play out....and we are going to have a blast because.... "Oh, how we love to ponder about Our Beloved Ducks!" My wonderful Abbie would be so delighted with this new forum...(but she really was focused on the cheese at that moment!)

Game two of that doubleheader will not count towards the Pac-12 standings. The Ducks will open up play the weekend of Feb. 12-14 in a four-team tournament in Phoenix, hosted by Grand Canyon. Oregon will then play a doubleheader at Cal Poly on Feb. 19 before playing at Fresno State on Feb. 20.
