Oregon Ducks and Iowa Hawkeyes Common Opponents
In Kinnock Stadium, Kirk Ferentz has won .687 of Iowa's home games. Iowa gutted Minnesota and is showing signs of life on offense behind run-first QB Gronowski, not to be confused with The Gronk or the Big Leboski, and a very good O-line. Iowa DC Phil Parker is a Broyles Award winner and one of the best in the business. Coming off a bye, Ferentz is slightly over .500. Ditto for Dan Lanning, who at one point was 5-1 coming off a bye. Ferentz has the most overall wins in the history of the conference. Against Big Ten opponents, Ferentz is 131-89. The 89 losses are the most conference losses by a Big Ten coach.

Brian Kelly at LSU? Fired. Who Are They & Other Teams Going to Replace HCs With?
He won't be a WOW hire, but 42-year-old Wake Forest head coach Jake Dickert has the Demon Deacons 5-2 with Saturday's upset defeat of SMU. He's doing this with the smallest student body, stadium, and the smallest football budget in the ACC. Dickert is 42 with 17 years of coaching experience, including at Washington State, another low-budget program, where he had the Cougars, with now Oklahoma QB John Mateer and OC Ben Arbuckle, playing competitive football. He helped move Mateer and Arbuckle into a higher tax bracket. Hw won't be offered the top-tier jobs, but he'd make sense at VA Tech or at Stanford.

A B1G Point: Jon Joseph Being Read by On3's Ari Wasserman?
According to the AP voters, OBD has one ranked team left to play in the regular season, No. 23 USC. According to the widely circulated and referred to Massey Computer Ratings, including USC, OBD has three top 25 games left, with two of the games on the road at No. 18 Iowa and No. 19 UW. It will be very interesting to see the playoff committee's first ranking on Tuesday, 11/4. Will SEC commissioner Greg Sankey still be enamored with the committee's new metrics? Will B1G commissioner Tony Petitti have reason to stay with his automatic qualifier PO format? Oregon Ducks On SIBreaking Down Oregon's Rough Remaining Big Ten ScheduleThe Oregon Ducks are 7-1, going 4-1 in the Big Ten conference, following a win against the Wisconsin Badgers. The Ducks are heading into a bye week, and will ha

I think the SEC is deeper, no doubt. But I haven't watched an SEC team this season, including Texas A&M, that cannot be defeated. A&M surrendered a ton of points to Notre Dame and won on a Domer's special teams mistake. A&M defeated Arkansas 45-42. Terrific win over LSU, but LSU has floundered the entire season. The B1G had a winning record against the SEC last season, including winning two games, Illinois vs South Carolina, and Michigan vs. Alabama, where the B1G teams were significant underdogs. I think the SEC is the top football conference, but it is not that much superior to the Big Ten.

The Oregon RB Rotation Needs to Change
Thank you, DM, for another spot-on article. Several player rotations seem to be off this season, at least to me. 🙃 Some of this may be due to the coaching staff looking at the long game? Assuming Indiana and Ohio State run the table and Oregon makes the playoff, with the goal being a Natty, ideally, the season is half over. Eight more games to play with three in the regular season against Massey's top 25-ranked Iowa, USC, and Washington, and four PO games against top competition. Davison is a stud, but he is also a freshman who I don't think has played a 16-game season. Not an exact comparison, of course, but on many occasions, rookies in the NFL start strong and taper off as the season progresses. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for pointing out that the Badgers' run defense is not a pile of garbage. Luke Fickell could not have asked for better weather on Saturday. Oregon is not going to roll over every Big Ten opponent. OBD ran the B1G regular season and champ game table last season; Oregon won by three points in Madison. Winning football games is hard. Notwithstanding what ESPN has to say, winning B1G football games in a Power 2 conference is very hard. Even with a talented QB, but one who has not started close to sixty games. Thanks again. Please, OBD, win this bye week and kick Iowa in Kinnock on 11/8.

Brian Kelly at LSU? Fired. Who Are They & Other Teams Going to Replace HCs With?
Gat, I love that you are on this board, but with all due respect, winning Big Ten football games is not a piece of cake. Cig's win at Oregon (sigh) was the one that grabbed the nation's attention, of course. But hanging in at 2-loss Iowa on a day the offense wasn't playing well, likely due to Iowa's defense, was a very good win. The win last season against a Michigan team that defeated Bama in the postseason was significant, as are the wins over bowl-eligible B1G teams. We live in a Power 2 CFB world. When did winning in the SEC become Herculean, and winning in the B1G passe? The B1G won two titles in a row, and there seems to be a journalistic jihad against the conference and its leadership. Texas and Bama have to come back against two mediocre SEC opponents, and the comebacks are the greatest of all time. In a monsoon, Wisconsin keeps it close against OBD, and The Athletic drops Oregon to No. 12 in its irrelevant poll. In the Massey computer rankings, Ohio State and Indiana are first and second. No. 6 Oregon has a respectable SOS ranking of 25 to date, 18th going forward. The computer does not rank a G5 team in its top 25. The SEC has the most teams ranked, with 10 in the top 25. The B1G has seven teams ranked: Michigan, Iowa, Washington, and USC are also ranked. Then it's B12 4, ACC 3, and Notre Dame. The Athletic's Stewart Mandel, in his latest Mailbag, referred to UW's record as being 'tainted.' A loss to the No. 1 team in the country and on the road at a ranked Michigan makes UW's 6-2 record 'tainted '? The B1G had the best postseason record in 2024-25. 3-loss PO screwed over South Carolina was defeated by 3-loss Illinois, and 3-loss PO screwed over Alabama was defeated by a 5-loss Michigan team that had many players sitting the game out while Bama had all hands on deck. I watch a lot of SEC football, and I more than respect the quality of play, but I haven't seen a team in any conference this season that cannot be defeated. Good luck with the Gators search. Florida should be competing for national championships.

Wondering What our Pro Ducks are Doing? (3)
Bo, the last of the QBs drafted at his position in the 1st round, leads them all in the most important stat - WINS! He refined and elevated his game at Oregon. When I see folks down on Dante, I realize how spoiled we were to have QBs with the most starts in CFB back-to-back.

Franklin, my dear, you screwed the whole conference, and I do give a damn! 🤬

Brian Kelly at LSU? Fired. Who Are They & Other Teams Going to Replace HCs With?
Dan has been there in the SEC and is done with that, I think. How many more millions of dollars does Dan want or need? When he says he wants his sons to graduate from the same school, I believe him. Dan is likely to get another nice bump in pay staying in Eugene. The Nike deal is nice. How about the monthly retirement from Oregon PERS when he retires at 60?

Brian Kelly at LSU? Fired. Who Are They & Other Teams Going to Replace HCs With?
The firing after beatdowns goes on, and the exit fee is irrelevant. LSU went large in the NIL arena, including one million dollars of Brian Kelly's money, and did not get a satisfactory ROI. Want a 60-something coach who has won wherever he has coached, Houston coach Willie Fritz. The ripple effect from all of these firings will be like a tsunami rolling in. The best coaches will be coaching in the playoffs through January. These new hires need to happen before the December recruit signing date, no? As Charles asked, who besides super-agent Jimmy Sexton are you going to call? His client, James Franklin, will find a new gig. I don't think Brian Kelly, unless he so desires, will be unemployed for too long. Just when you think CFB couldn't get more weirder ... 🤪🤑🙃Happy Halloweenie! This will likely keep Auburn coach Hugh Freeze and Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell employed. And likely take many top assistant coaches elsewhere. I imagine Dan and friends are in touch with the agents representing LSU 'committed' recruits.

Yikes! The Rain Was Not the Only Sobering Cold Water....
If the AP Poll was not enamored with the other three P4 conferences, in addition to No. 23 SC, No. 28 UW, and No. 29, Iowa would and should be in the top 25, and hopefully will be when the PO committee reveals its first ranking Tuesday night. UW will be facing PO elimination when they match up with OBD. Ditto Iowa and possibly SC. What SEC teams have three tougher opponents than the above three B1G teams remaining to be played by OBD?

Offensive Concerns
HMMMMMMMMMM? Isn't this the same team that put up 750 yards of offense the week before in Jersey? Wisconsin, with a run D that has played decent football all season, could not have asked for better weather. The critiques of this game, I get it. But OBD's defense played great, and in a deluge, the Ducks rushed for over 200 yards. Iowa will be a B1G test. For Iowa not to be in the AP top 25, ditto UW, is male bovine excrement. The Ducks stayed at No. 6, which IMO is spot on. Put the Hurt on the Hawkeyes!

Ducks Remain at No. 6 in Both AP & Coaches Polls...
SSecDD - Nine SEC teams are ranked, including 2-loss Oklahoma, Tennessee, Missouri, and Texas. And five B12 teams are ranked? Both 2-loss Iowa and 2-loss UW should be ranked. At least USC is back in the rankings. Georgia Tech No. 8. UVA No. 12? Memphis No. 25? Big disrespect for the B1G conference. On Tuesday night, I hope the PO Committee has Iowa and UW ranked. If not, if the Committee follows this ranking, Tony Petitti's AQ PO plan is spot on. After back-to-back titles, this sure looks like B1G hunting season. The conference is being treated little better than a G6 conference.

The Buckeyes' bona fides were supposed to be evidenced this coming Saturday when James Franklin brings the Nittany Lions into Columbus. Right?😁 Texas A&M may have given Kelly the kill shot yesterday, but there are no teams in CFB this season that are a certain PO champion. South Carolina had Bama on the ropes, ditto Mississippi State with Texas. Did Oklahoma or Ole Miss look unbeatable? And Vandy and Missiouri are ranked because of where they play their football. I love your Dawgs, but this isn't a vintage UGA defense. Ohio State had an impressive win over 6-2 UW in Seattle. Ohio State also had a good win at Illinois, and Texas is a two-loss team and still in the running for the playoffs with two 'prove-it games' remaining. One against your Dawgs and the other in Austin vs. the Aggies. At the end of the regular season, Ohio State's win over Texas could be one of the best of the year. Two-loss Iowa, with a 3-point road loss at Iowa State and a 5-point home loss to Indiana, is not ranked. UW's two losses came against the AP No. 1 team and on the road in the Big House, where it's hard to win football games. Two-loss Nebraska has a win over one-loss and ranked Cincinnati. 6-2 Michigan, with a true frosh QB, is improving and AP-ranked because of its brand name. USC lost by ten points on the road to No. 12-ranked Notre Dame and dropped from No. 20 to out of the poll, with USF, LSU, and ASU ranked. Wins in the other Power 2 conference, the Big Ten, are not easy wins. Losses in the Big Ten count in the AP Poll far more than losses in the SEC. This is bound to happen when more than half of the SEC is ranked in the preseason top 25. Top to bottom IMO and by every metric the SEC is deeper than the B1G. But winning B1G games is not easy, and the B1G more than held its own against the SEC in the 2024-25 postseason. I also note that ESPN has Purdue-sized SEC drum, while Fox is playing B1G bongos. GO DUCKS! GO DOGS!

Pretty Ugly Win, But I'll Take It...
What Mike West said. 😁Times how many times he posted. Also, what Charles and others said, a win is a win. Hopefully, this season is only half over, and OBD will play in 16 games. This Wisconsin game will be a distant memory. Such is College Football. Winning football games is hard. Especially in a monsoon, which hurts your team's speed and quickness advantage. Especially with a young football team. Especially with fourteen new starters. The last two seasons, the Ducks' QBs had more experience than any QBs starting in CFB. There will be erratic play out of Dante from time to time. The same guy who called plays last night called the plays in Jersey. The same guys blocked. Frustrating? Heck yes, but the winner of this game was never in doubt. Wisconsin has not quit on Luke Fickell, a coach who took the only G5 team to make the four-team PO field. Every B1G team has the defending conference champion in its sights. The coaches in the conference are competent. Winning in the Big Ten is not easy. Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, and UW are 6-2. USC is 5-2. All of these teams have looked terrific on occasion and terrible at other times. All could be ranked, including Nebraska, with a win over top 25 Cincinnati. Compare the number of two-loss teams ranked in the SEC compared to the B1G. Texas and Alabama had tough games against unranked teams yesterday. Ole Miss and Oklahoma had several breakdowns in defense yesterday amid questionable coaching decisions. MO vs. Vandy was far from dandy.🤪 The SEC has many teams ranked in the preseason. Thus, many games are 'self-fulfilling' top 25 vs. top 25 matchups. The SEC is deeper than the Big Ten, although this was not evident in last year's postseason. OBD will likely drop in today's AP Poll, which doesn't matter. It will be interesting to see how the PO committee treats the teams, including 7-1 OBD, on the fourth of November. Come the 7th of December, it will be infamy if OBD is not in the top eight and hosting an opening game. Iowa had a Gophers sack fest yesterday. The week before, Minnesota sacked Dylan Riola so many times he looked like he was in a grocery store checkout line. In particular, a young team will not be the same team week after week. The B1G test for Dan and friends this week and next is to win the bye week over a group of experienced coaches who will have the benefit of playing on their home field. Kirk Ferentz is 130-59 in Kinnick Stadium, .687. I'm hoping for better weather on November 8th in Iowa City. Win the Bye Week! GO DUCKS!

GameDay Thread: Oregon vs. Wisconsin...Let's Discuss!
Looks like another week - No Charles-Ten Final Score Trophy in my (mostly empty) Trophy Case. I'm blaming the Weather gods! 🤬 Beat the Badgers, and then use the Off Week wisely. Iowa fans may be good to children, but they really hate Gophers, and they don't need a license to go Ducks hunting. 😁

WOOF! 6-2 UW TCB in Seattle vs Illinois. Iowa destroyed Minnesota to improve to 6-2. Both UW and Iowa could be ranked when OBD visits. USC could also be ranked. Bama rebounded. BYU won and covered. Vandy beat Mizzou. How far does Mizzou fall in the AP? Texas has tied the game up, 38-38 vs. Miss State.

Who was the fool who recommended Minny +8.5? 🤬 Don't blink when you play the Hawkeyes in Iowa City. A team Iowa lost to by three on the road, Iowa State, is giving undefeated BYU all it can handle. I wonder if Jimmy Franklin watched the Hoosiers hose down the Bruins 56-6? Jimmy, at least Northwestern lost. 🤪 SOS Boost! Okay, Northwestern lost, but Rutgers defeated Purdue by three points. Yippee! Ole Miss overcame some strange decisions by Kiff to hand Oklahoma a rare loss in Norman. Do the Sooners drop one or two spots in the AP? USC(E) is giving Bama all it can handle, and it's tied up between Mizzou and Vandy in Nashville. Cow's Bells! This is not a Miss State - Texas is losing in Starkvegas. Will a 3-loss Horns remain ranked in the Top 25?😁

2025 BIG Info, Predictions, Etc. (11)
10 Things to Keep a B1G Eye On - Saturday Tradition10 things to watch in the Big Ten as the stretch run nearsThere are a lot of things to keep an eye on as the Big Ten season nears the home stretch, but here are the 10 biggest things to watch.
