Time For Oregon’s NIL Collective to Toss Up Alley-oops of Cash
Thanks, Darren for the great take. Call Lexington, KY for advice. How about 'NO!' $8.2M a year Kentucky coach Calipari has not done all that much at Kentucky except run his mouth. 3 bombed out in this season's Tourney by K State. K ST with a roster nowhere near that of Kentucky's. The on-court results during Calipari's time in Lexington have not that often matched the recruiting ranking Have to be astute at throwing money at 1 and done players straight out of high school. It's a CBB topic so how about the way Nick Saban who suspended a freshman football player indefinitely for a marijuana arrest called out, not so impliedly or subtly, the Bama CBB coach for how he has dealt with the 'provided the weapon' situation? Very clear that Saban believes the basketball coach completely mismanaged the situation including but not limited to saying the player was in the wrong place at the wrong time. As Saint Nick said this is not a valid excuse for anyone, anywhere, at any time. The next coach's meeting with the Bama AD should be interesting. GO DUCKS! Beat Wisky tonight and next season get an invite to the big dance.

BIG 10 Flames Out Again
Yes, 2 of 3 teams ranked at the season's end made the playoff with both losing. And Penn State did defeat Utah in the Rose Bowl. But in 2022 the Pac-12 was a far deeper and far more competitive football conference. SEE: B1G W champ Purdue giving up 60+ points to LSU in its bowl game. As well as Wisconsin losing at home to Washington State and UW defeating Michigan State.

BIG 10 Flames Out Again
Thank you for the correction. I think Penn made the final 4 one year and that is what I was thinking of. Bradley went on to bedevil my Celtics; he played on some great Knicks teams.

Canzano: Fallout from Ugly Chant at BYU-Oregon Game has jumped Shark
'Nothing is more dangerous than a legislative body in session.' Mark Twain I loved this take by Canzano. You can't fix stupid; especially, by responding with equal stupidity. A similar piece of legislation introduced in Washington was pulled after UW and WSU objected. The proper response? Kick the fools out of the stadium and deny them entry from thereon.

BIG 10 Flames Out Again
Princeton does have a football team but no Ivy League players are attending school on an athletic scholarship. However, many 'student-athletes' receive Pell Grants to help pay their tuition. This Princeton team reminds me of the Princeton team decades back that made the Final 4 with 'Dollar Bill' Bradley leading the team before moving on to an outstanding NBA career with the NY Knicks.

Oregon and the Pac-12 in a Six-Year Trial?
That was an off-the-cuff comment by the AZ president who IMO foolishly gave an interview to Pac-10 hater Dennis Dodd. Then clickbait media sites report this 'stuff' as the truth. Within a few days of SC/UCLA saying they were leaving Dodd dissed Phil Knight as a billionaire cold calling to get his team in the B1G. I'm calling BS on this take and on the president of Arizona.

Oregon and the Pac-12 in a Six-Year Trial?
I'm sorry I do not have a link. I do not recall where I saw this, probably on Canzano or Wilner. It may be due to the number of schools that 'field' a beach volleyball team.

Oregon and the Pac-12 in a Six-Year Trial?
Great take. I'd add Maryland, and Northwestern to Rutgers getting paid and also UCLA receiving a full share based on its location and CBB team and most certainly not on the performance in football and attendance at the Rose Bowl. Once the novelty wears off how many B1G fans are going to trip to the Rose Bowl to watch regular season games versus the above-listed teams and also Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa, Minnesota, and even 'nearby' Nebraska fans? OT - I am ticked off that the Pac-10 is going to allow the Trojans and Bruins beach volleyball teams to compete in the Pacific conference. Why show any largess to these 2 schools?

BIG 10 Flames Out Again
I found this stat to be of interest. 9 of the schools advancing to the Sweet 16 do not have a football team.

ESPN's 64 Team College Football Playoff
ESPN showing some for Oregon as a 2 seed with Oregon advancing to the Sweet 16 with wins over Syracuse and Maryland to face 3 seed Washington. What a college football 64-team playoff bracket would look like in 2023 WWW.ESPN.COM What teams are the No. 1 seeds? Which teams pull off the major upset in the first round? We reimagined a March Madness-style bracket for college football. Unfortunately, Oregon is in the South Region where 1 seed Georgia likely awaits in the Ducks take care of UW.

Oregon and the Pac-12 in a Six-Year Trial?
What a terrific take. Loved the analogy of moving to a better-paying job even if you know it will not be as good as the old job in many respects. Will things stand still on the expansion front until 2029/30? Will Clemson and FSU get a bigger piece of the ACC pie? Lots of money owed if these two moves to the SEC but in the long run may be worth it. Especially if the moves are accompanied by the undoubted litigation that likely would be settled with a lower buyout than currently exists. This would put ESPN, owner, and operator of the ACC and SEC networks in a very interesting position. I expect that any SEC expansion will be countered by the B1G. I do hope that Oregon will look out for itself with a relatively low-cost buyout should Oregon be invited to join the B1G before 2030 and Oregon agrees to accept the invitation. Also as Charles has pointed out elsewhere on The Forum, Oregon and any champion or participant in the college football and men's basketball tournament should receive a bigger piece of the media pie. I also believe the most-watched teams deserve more media money but this could be seen as an overreach by Oregon by other Pac conference members. The other thing that could alter the expansion calculus, is what happens if the NLRB, a federal or state court, or a state legislature decides that 'student-athletes' are employees of a given school or schools? How many schools with football and men's basketball teams, among other sports teams, decide to no longer offer scholarships for these and other sports? And how would this affect Title 9 and women's sports? This issue is currently in front of the NLRB seeking a reversal of the decision that Northwestern's 'student athletes' are not employees and is also being litigated in a number of jurisdictions. Will the NCAA under new leader Charlie Barker be able to convince Congress to give the NCAA and its member schools anti-trust and other relief in regards to schools being employers? I do not see this happening. As Charles points out in this excellent article, with the college football playoff expanding to 12 teams until 2026 (rumored to go to 16 teams once ESPN's exclusive playoff broadcast rights expire in 2025/26) and with the basketball tournament being rumored to go to 80 teams will Oregon be able to make enough money off on the field and on the court success to say thanks but no thanks to the B1G? 'May you live in interesting times' certainly applies to today's college football and men's basketball. Thanks again for the excellent take and here's hoping that GK shows Oregon and other Pac members the money.

BIG 10 Flames Out Again
The B1G hasn't won an NCAA Tournament since 2000 when Michigan State defeated Florida. March Madness winners and losers: Indiana adds to Big Ten's misery, Xavier finds its groove at right time - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM Parsing through the best and worst performances as the second round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament concluded on Sunday The beat goes on with Michigan State being the only one of 8 B1G Tournament teams to make it to the Sweet 16. I do not think the level of competition in the B1Q in both football and basketball will be that much of an upgrade for the LA schools.

March Madness: UCLA/USC Leaving, Pac-12 Gets Their Money
Sorry for going OT. My bad. Charles, I totally agree with your second point. Winners should get a bigger share. And perhaps, the most-watched teams should also receive a bigger share. Wilner is right, the payout to a conference for appearing and advancing in the CBB tournament is made over a 5-year period. UCLA and USC will take no NCAA money with them for the 2023/24 season but will get a one-twelfth share for this season and their share of the money earned over the previous seasons before they leave in 2024. I again apologize for going OT. I shouldn't complain about media deal rumors and then pile on with more of the same. It doesn't matter what I think. The only thing that matters will be the bottom line of the new media deal.

Crazy: Predicting Sports is IMPOSSIBLE
NDawg, great comment. I believe it was you that first posted on this board that the B1G has not won an NCAA CBB title since Michigan State defeated Florida in 2000. With the number of teams getting in the tourney year after year, this is a bad showing. More parody than parity. 2022 CFB regular season. Pac-12 had 6 teams ranked, the B1G 3. Yet 2 of the 3 B1G teams made the playoff. Michigan, a team that played 8 home games including 3 OOC stiffs in Ann Arbor and a one-loss Ohio State, yet again, that had already lost to Michigan. And Michigan played Purdue in the B1G title game. A Purdue team that LSU hung 60+ points on in the Boilermaker's bowl game. The bias in favor of the B1G is obvious and makes my anger of SC and UCLA moving to the B1G simmer more than boil over.

Crazy: Predicting Sports is IMPOSSIBLE
Terrific comment. However, in 2022 Bama came oh-so-close to dropping 4 games. Saved by the 2021 Heisman winner on a number of occasions. One thing I really liked about Bama in 2022 was that the Tide showed up for the Sugar Bowl and its stars played in a 'meaningless' bowl game on the way to defeating K State. BTW, Bama delivered a nice cover in this game.

March Madness: UCLA/USC Leaving, Pac-12 Gets Their Money
And do not forget the $ UCLA has to pay as a 'tax' to CAL. UCLA did beat Northwestern and is in the Sweet 16 against the winner of today's Gonzaga vs TCU game.

Crazy: Predicting Sports is IMPOSSIBLE
2 seed Arizona lost to 15 seed Princeton but Pac-11 member San Diego State came through with a victory. The odds of having a 100% accurate bracket prediction are about the same as me shooting par.

CBS Sports Dennis Dodd at it Again
Love it. And when right he usually authors an obscure insight into the obvious. He has no reason to kiss the SEC's posterior any longer so why not go after the Pac-10? He is single handily making the MIZZOU School of Journalism resemble Journalism 101 at a JC. I do not believe the dingbat president at U of A should not be let off the hook. Why give Dodd an interview to begin with?

Arizona President: "the deal was going to be USC-Oregon [to the Big Ten]"
The B1G commissioner lying to the Pac-12 and ACC commissioners was 'well played?' I know this gentleman is a respected surgeon but he came off sounding like a wishy-washy jerk; jerked around by B12 guy Dennis Dodd. With partners like this?
-
Arizona President: "the deal was going to be USC-Oregon [to the Big Ten]"
He also mentioned that Arizona was one of the 3 Pac-12 schools that voted in favor of forming the Pac-20. He said the decision to expand to the Pac-20 'got complicated.' Among other complications was SC's Carol Folt leading the charge to crater Pac-12 expansion. I thought the man's comments were all over the map. He was 'sucker punched' by Dodd's leading questions. Princeton. Karma for agreeing to an interview with Dodd?

Report: ASU President Michael Crow On Record About Pac-12 Media Rights
The B12 jumped ahead of the Pac-12/10 and then settled for an OK (pun intended) linear media deal at $31.6M a year per team. Adding BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF are not 'value-added' additions compared to what the B12 is losing. Agree with the call on the B1G but the soon-to-be 16 members are all schools with a huge # of graduates and the B1G launching a network with FOX as a media partner was brilliant. Also population wise it helps the B1G to be in the eastern and central time zones. Yeah, CBS and NBC are in the mix but only to 'pick up the pieces." SC/UCLA has to deal with tough travel and I expect close to all of the home games will be played in the dark. This is a race for the bronze. I believe the Pac-10 definitely beats out the ACC media deal and likely beats the or comes oh-so-close to the B12 media deal. The Power 2 media deals? The remaining 'power conferences' will not come close. But in the long run, the Oregon and UW brands are behind only Notre Dame and right there with FSU and Clemson. And the timing of the new media deal to end a year prior to the B1G deal is a sound financial decision. And if the streaming element works it could lead to a terrific ROI. Games on Peacock and the CBS streaming entity will feature the crummy B1G games. Ohio State/Michigan will not go streaming away. Thanks for the great comment.

Oregon House Bill Would Require Approval of State Legislature for Public Universities to Change Conferences
Depending on the clout of OR/OR ST in the legislature and the influence of PK I would expect a move by Oregon to be approved with a possible 'tax' on Duck revenue like the tax imposed in favor of CAL on UCLA?
