  1. A new starter, with high expectations, was the primary abuser of undisciplined penalties. He has acknowledged that and is working on it. The PI penalties were a result of losing sight of the ball and panicking. That will improve with experience. And of course the late hit was a bit of over zealousness. These will improve with real game experience vs intrasquad type games. But I agree that sometimes only a few plays separate us from greatness. Just proves how hard it is to win the Natty. Thus, coach Lannings emphasis on getting from good to great.
  2. So a question, which is it, Warriors or Rainbow Warriors of U of Hawaii? According to my research, UH Warriors added Rainbow to their name after one appeared over the field after beating Oregon State. Then in 2000, they dropped the "Rainbow" for football, men's bball, and men's volleyball and baseball. The women's teams were called Rainbow Wahine. But now every team seems to be the Rainbow Warriors (or wahine). So, enquiring mind, (my own) wants to know, are we playing Rainbow Warriors or simply Warriors this week?
  3. Bird- bombs? Why not Bo- bombs! Those passes, when caught, look so effortless. But seeing two outstanding receivers, Troy and Tez, each have one slip through their hands, was a reminder of just how difficult catching those missiles can be. High risk and reward. I'm sure we will see plenty as the season progresses. I too think this was more like our first game. Their O-line and especially their D front 7 were vastly improved over PSU. Thus our run game lacked its usual pzaz. A question for our OBD group, does utilizing so many RB's so often, effect their game flow vision? After rewatching the game, I thought our D line did very well. We often only rushed 3 and still brought pressure. We did lose containment a few times, but mostly early on, and I don't think we expected TS to run so much. I'm encouraged going forward. Lastly, I hope our young men can learn from the sad story of coach Tucker. No one is immune from temptation, so it's up to each individual to stay strong and be of sound character. Now, bring on the Warriors!
  4. Wow! What a win. This was really our "first" game. PSU was such a runaway, and they substituted as much as we did, this game against a more stout O-line, and much improved defensive front, was a better test of our teams fortitude. I thought we would win going away, (my prediction was 41-17) but JonJ had it right, Texas Tech plays well at home. So, what are we left with? The Ducks are good team. We want them to go from good to great! We have several things to clean up, but we have many things to be happy about. The reason TS had so many rushing yards is because receivers were covered and he had to pull the ball and run it. 124 yds of penalty should have been enough to lose, but 4 (FOUR) TO's made it even. Clean up penalties, and we do do much better, score more points. Coaches learn from their decisions, the team moves on. Next team up to be concerned with, Colorado. I do NOT want to lose to neon Dion.
  5. It's an absolutely disturbing and disgusting story. This guy should be prosecuted to the fullest extant of the law. Unbelievable.
  6. That first drive missed assignments should be chalked up to first game excitement and perhaps a little over enthusiasm. The adjustments should be chalked up to good in-game coaching. What do they say about week 2 games? Biggest improvement is from week 1 to week 2. This should make us all very excited. I'm sure TS will have his TT's playing better, but so will our defense. I think we will come out ballin' and surprise a few tv personalities. (And maybe a few OBD forum fans too) Thanks for great insight Mr. Fishduck.
  7. Waaaaayy back in my hischool days, my coach gave starting spots to who ever worked the hardest that week in practice. It was a great motivator to work hard (yes, I did get to start once or twice) and it kept the starters motivated. If that's what he is doing, great. Knowing your hard work is rewarded, well, that's priceless. However, the # of snaps per player seems to suggest he knows its a long season. So besides developing and encouraging depth, he is avoiding unnecessary risk of injury. Remember, Bucky only had 4 carries. What ever his reasons, aren't we glad football is back!
  8. Reminds me of what J Winston said after we crushed FSU in the Rose Bowl, " it was close, we coulda won" or something as silly.
  9. Great article Mr. Ingram. Thanks. My only take-away, I wish this was the team that played UGA last year. We may not have won, but that awful final score would have been different. This team looked disciplined. For a first game! Good tackling. Good team communication on defensive play calling. Zero. None. No procedure penalties. And what about that offense! I couldn't blink, let alone get up and leave for another beverage, or I'd miss something for sure. Oregon did exactly what you want a championship team to do, play hard, fast, clean and just win. We have now seen what coach Lanning means by the "Oregon standard". They bring that every week, we are in for fun times and exciting games.
  10. The SEC, led by Saban, resisted fast football. Now, even they embrace "tempo". When Oregon et al, start scoring at will, even the B1G will adapt.
  11. If it works, it works. Some in the booth. Some, like Chip, like the sideline. As long as we work, I care not.
  12. Until they lose, they are the media darling. Most love an underdog. The worst thing that can happen, would be for CU to continue winning. Maybe, just maybe, in spite of his MASSIVE ego, Dion is a good coach. (I know he was a great player, but coach?!) If so, there will be no living with CU media coverage. If the Ducks don't stomp CU, and I believe they will, then I hope CU wins the natty and Shadeur wins the Heisman. Otherwise, Oregon wins the Pac-12, goes to playoff, and Bo goes to New York. That's my hope.
  13. It's a nice start for a lost league. I hope we have 6 teams ranked. I hope we have more wins in OOC games than ever! I hope those responsible for the Pac's demise see these results and rue their part in it. Meanwhile, go Pac12. Go Ducks!!
  14. So what's the over/under for how many times coach Prime is shown on the sideline per game? 20? 35?
  15. Even if they don't win, they've already proved to themselves they can hang with a top 25 team. That confidence and playing together more is going to make them a tough out. I'm completely in shock.
  16. Looking at the box score, it looks like a solid effort by a Mario coached team, especially for a first game. 250- rushing 243- passing 2 scores each quarter One successful 2pt conversion Holding opposition to only a field goal Controlled time of possession Looks like exactly the kind of game MC loves to coach. He should have great success against all FCS teams, some G5, and maybe some luck against the bottom half of ACC. Against teams with a high powered offense, well, he won't win in a shootout. The new rule for clock continuing to run might actually help improve his chances to control game tempo and win a game or two. I must say, I'm so glad Miami wanted him! Go Ducks! Go Lanning.
  17. Just wondering if anyone saw coach Dilly's first game as head coach? How did they look? The box score seemed to show quick scores, but time if possession equal. Any thoughts?
  18. Utah seems to have more depth then previously reported. Without starting qb and key starters on offense and defense, they looked very solid for a first game. Missed assignments, missed tackles, dropped passes, are all part of game one, but the Utes weren't excessive on this aspect. Florida on the other hand looked slow on defense and weak on offense. Plus I thought offensive play calling was very weak. After watching both USuC, and Utah, the Utes look much more solid with their O-line and definitely on their defensive front. Our game in Salt Lake is looking much tougher to me than the home stand against usc. I'm actually looking forward to watching the Beavers play San Jose on Sunday to compare against USuC. But first, Saturday. Go Ducks!!
  19. Apparently, ala C.Williams, USuC only plays hard in games they want to "be at". (See last year's bowl fiasco) So starting against lowly SJSU must not have been enough of an adrenaline shot to play hard. It's hard to think Nevada will move the needle. I personally think usc players believe their own press clippings and don't have the lunch bucket mentality to bring it every game. First game results are hardly definitive, look at us last year! USuC will be a force this year, but I think OSU will be better.
  20. I don't think usc getting more hype helps Oregon or the left coast. Until we beat them. They have always been a media darling, prob always will. It's Hollywood baby. Perfect place for neon Dion to end up. Too many celebrities for sports pundits to rub shoulders and be seen with. Coach Lanning and his team know what good recruits want and need. As long as he does that, we continue to go good to great. Let the talking heads do their pontificating, will just win the games.
  21. If we go undefeated in the Pac this year, with how deep it is, who will beat us in the semi?!? No, if Charles is right, then we play for the Natty.
  22. Maybe so, but being on a winning team might count for something. Finishing at Oregon didn't hurt Gonzo any. Players still want to win games. Going 2-10 might not sit well. Might the season is finally here, so let the games begin!
  23. Yeah, he be "comin" to Oregon soon enough. He'd rather be in the B1G then the BIG 12.
