  1. Agree about getting to the playoffs, but winning it will take depth, development, recruiting, and scheme. The depth is where the Championship is won. TCU couldn't even stop the 3rd string RB for Georgia. At this point getting to the playoffs isn't a goal I want to see the program aim for. The program needs to aim for winning it and threatening to win every year. I think this is where the portal will be the difference maker. Any spot we have weakness we can bring in a transfer. I have a feeling Lanning is also striving for depth and knows this will make the ultimate difference.
  2. Interesting development, talk about a 24/7 job keeping track of all the players available and the program needs ability to take on players.
  3. Bosa is a liability, plain and simple. He wouldn't be in a Charger uniform next season if I was the coach.
  4. Does raise the question what percentage of his rise was the O-line, Coaching, Scheme, Natural Talent, or other? If you have to break it up to make 100%, Talent 45, Coaching 20, O-line 25, Scheme 10? Bucky was a 3* amongst 5* and 4* talent on that list. Gore was a 3*, but it could be argued that didn't give his genes enough respect. How does a 3* rise up to that level? Is it nature, nurture, or just the heart in the guy no one could measure?
  5. He is certainly another piece in Lanning plan for the program. The young man also seems like he is a football player, who loves the game. Kind of a crazy topic, but when you adopt a child there can be both bonding and attachment issues. This can happen with your own children but it is much rarer. Basically if a child doesn't bond or create an attachment to the parents there are issues which arise. I would argue Lanning had attachment issues with some of the old guard. The bonding necessary to create a team of young men willing to run through walls wasn't there. What Brayden Platt could signify is another step towards a team of players who are all in for the Oregon Football Program under Dan Lanning.
  6. The Pac just doesn't compete, but some interesting info included. An Analysis Of College Football Return On Investment ATHLETICDIRECTORU.COM AthleticDirectorU presents the most comprehensive analysis of college football program spending and return on investment over the last two decades.
  7. Gambling on a 1st round NFL qb, and a large guaranteed contract is a crap shoot. Signing a high school kid, and giving him a ton of money is playing roulette, probably Russian roulette. I like Oregon's direction, show you can set up a qb for success who has potential. This is the same direction we have gone with coaches and we have had great success. All it will take is one program having success with the big payout to a high school kid and the rest will follow them off the cliff. I hope Oregon never goes that route. I do look forward to more transparency of what is going on, someday. For now we can only guess, and watch what is happening.
  8. As a head coach, the hiring and managing of coaches is also critical to a programs performance. He hit it out of the park with many of his hires, and seems to have a good culture amongst most coaches. The problem I see is the defense, and some in game decision making. There has been much discussion about the adjustments with the defense, and that needs to get cleaned up. It is puzzling also how Noah seemed to digress. I want to see improvement in how the defense adjusts to playing Penix and the beavs next year. I also think Lanning is a coach who allows his coordinators a long leash. My take it in his second year he will need to tighten the leash so his guys don't get out of control with their play calling and player development. As a new coach he is still figuring out how Lanning does things. As stated he is a Kirby Smart protege, but in the end will become something a bit different. We still don't know what that will be, but I imagine there will be growth and adjustments to how he does things.
  9. Agree, trust the coaches on this one.
  10. You might be right, we don't want to be like,
  11. Former 5-star Georgia CB Jaheim Singletary could be interesting transfer target for Ducks SPORTS.YAHOO.COM Former 5-star Georgia CB Jaheim Singletary is headed to the transfer portal. He committed to the Bulldogs when Lanning was the DC. Might the Ducks reach out?
  12. Excellence with humility is something our qb's have had for a while. I can imagine one of the reasons Johnny Football thought about coming to Oregon, but decided to go elsewhere. He wouldn't have fit in. Nix fits in, Ty has a chance because he has some of the same traits. The new guy seems to have a bit of it. Time will tell who will keep the tradition going.
  13. We have almost always had the O from Oregon, but it would seem we are starting to get the D back from the Duck too. Burch had a choice to either play one more year or go pro. He decided to play one more year under Lanning and Co. Welcome and here is to you becoming a 1st round draft choice, and the Ducks turning into a first rate defense! Well done Dan Lanning and everyone involved, now bring in the speed!
  14. I would also say the NFL isn't out of the question. Plenty of underused TE's have made it to the NFL from Oregon. With the heart and talent I saw, if luck is on his side from here on out, he has a chance. This is a guy who really needs more game time.
  15. I can only imagine he is, once again, doing what is best for the Ducks. He will always be one of the great role players. Also maybe there just weren't anymore interesting classes to take?
  16. What is interesting also is how many people, I'm guessing, are looking at the replay screen. Just like in modern life, the screen pulls the viewers away from the moment in front of them. Justin, as usual, is on point, and in good company. Agree, amazing shot!
  17. I come back to we can't just duplicate, we have to have an edge. I think the edge is both speed, and innovation. We almost did it once with speed and innovation without the truly elite skill players. I want to see speed, innovation and elite skill players this time. The indicator that things are changing is our WR group. If we can train up the WR talent pool it will become the elite position group we have never had. Hopefully this spreads to all position groups, because it all take all hands on deck at an elite level.
  18. Great analysis and statements about what programs have done with talent. I would say Lanning has done well with somebody else's talent. Agree about the other coaches outcomes. What I hope to see is the Oregon way with our twist. Innovate with more, don't want to see any attempt at duplication. Get more out of more with innovation. I will also agree the program should never let up. If the other team gives up, it's on them. Bring in the back-ups, but let them give it their all. Lastly Oregon has had great leadership on the field, and that has been lacking on the defensive side of the ball. I want to see which guy steps up to be Lanning's defensive leader, or leaders. The culture he wanted to see on the defensive side of the ball never materialized.
  19. What really hurt was when the taking heads started talking at halftime about the last time TCU came back from being down in a bowl game.
  20. It will come down to where will he be willing to work his tail off. The young man has talent to no end, but he needs to spend hours, every day, working on his hands. I don't think starting or playing time is going to fix his issues. My thought is Donte might say if he was just on the field more all would be good.
  21. I would add Coach Lanning needs to have a better filter for recruiting players, not posers. This can best be seen at qb, but seems to have found its way throughout the program. My example of Brock Purdy being overlooked over a more highly ranked recruit is the best example of the previous staff's focus on recruiting rankings. Players need to be analyzed with an effort meter, not just a potential meter. It's like we have been recruiting potential energy, rather than kinetic energy. We need to view players in motion rather than as they sit on top of the hill. I want players who have worked extremely hard to get to the top, and are willing to fly down the hill and attack the next obstacle. Players who are sitting at the top and maybe didn't have to go too far to get there need to be filtered out.
  22. With all the available transfers makes one wonder if some of these guys are signing as preferred walk-ons? Anyone know if this is a possibility? He would get gear and uniform, I think food, but no money for school.
  23. Interestingly Garret didn't give Lincoln a ticket to the game. Maybe he figured Lincoln could afford a ticket better than his friends, but.... I am not sure I would want support from Lincoln at a big bowl game you want to win! Lincoln Riley's Brother, TCU's OC, Didn't Get Him National Title Tix WWW.OUTKICK.COM Lincoln Riley's brother, TCU offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, said that he didn't provide big bro tickets to Monday's national title game.
  24. Just glad that she doesn't have the tats which are referenced on Lannings side. Now that would be too much, way too much! Also the boomerang tattoo meaning is basically, what you send out into the world comes back to you, for what it is worth. That seems to be a talking point for Lanning.
