Monday Injury Update! Oregon's Tez Johnson and Marcus Harper....
Haywarduck replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
All I know is this furthers my believe that you can't learn anything, gain anything positive from social media. Of course I really don't know what is defined as social media, and believed FD is a fine place to learn and share! Full disclosure, I joined twitter over 10 years ago and still haven't figured out how to use it. -
Oregon Ducks Football: What We Learned in Ann Arbor
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It is so fun to remember how proud and certain the spoiled children were when they hired Riley. They stole Riley, his golden boy qb and all was right again in tinsel town. Although Riley was 1-3 in bowl games, and only won a bowl during the covid season they were cock sure they had their man. After all he was the sure thing, and all the pundits agreed. Me thinks the potential is huge, but the problem with sc is.... and their next coach will be the same thing. My take is they should hire another washed up NFL coach, Jack Del Rio. My bet another guy the pundits will love. -
Oregon Ducks Football: What We Learned in Ann Arbor

If you are going to lose a quarter, or be weak in one spot, third quarter might be the one. Just another genius move by Lanning, maybe? Always have one area where you can improve and shift into 5th gear as the playoffs come closer. My hope is on November 30th we have a complete 4 quarter performance, and we lay 80 on the dawgs! -
It was interesting when the pundit pointed out the gloves and pondered if he could have caught the ball without them. If you looked at how Stewarts hand was in the perfect position, I think he catches it without gloves too. It was a thing of absolute beauty, an beastly!

Oregon GameDay Thread versus Michigan: Join Us!
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
One thing for sure, Justius Lowe deserves to be on the field. He is the real deal and is ready to play, just wow! Also Whittington is back, and is playing like a starter. The depth on offense is truly astounding! -

I would add, the magic is the program is getting 1% better everyday. That is why both the offense and defense seem to be getting better, and we haven't had a letdown, yet. We had 'next man up,' 'win the day,' but Lanning culture difference is just focusing on small individual and team improvement, everyday. So this might not be the best defense, but it ain't done yet.

Ya think....... Is it the Chip Kelly curse, ever since he left Oregon he has been unlucky, much like many of the coaches who left Oregon for a better job.

What is the Truth about Oregon Season Tickets?

Sounds like they had it all figured out, a real win, win! -
The Bend-But-Don’t-Break Defense is WORKING?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
From your article the fact that the BIG is having to adapt to Oregon, not the other way around means all is good at Oregon again! Bend don't break, fast break offense, call it what ever you want, but when other programs are complaining, OBD are doing it right. Oregon is again adapting, innovating, and leading the way. One last thought, I put Alliotti with Brooks as two guys whose impacts are most often misunderstood and under-appreciated. This program was built of the shoulders of many giants. Brooks and Alliotti are just two of the greats. -
Redundancy, and How Long Before You're A Duck?
Haywarduck replied to DanLduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The good news is we don't hear, 'wow if (insert name here) was still with the team maybe they would have won.' Instead we hear, 'wow the Ducks just reload with even better talent the next year.' If a pundit tries to spin the transfers into a negative, don't let it affect how you feel about it. Good players want to win, and they come to Oregon to do it. Would you want to be kicking for the beavs this year, or playing DB for the dawgs? -

The Ultimate Humiliation Would be Losing to Washington
Haywarduck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I personally want to sc spank the dawgs. I love seeing them lose badly. Then to hear the sc fans say maybe we aren't so bad would be great. Lastly see both programs continue to meltdown and lose in a worthless bowl game. -
Are College Referrees The Worst Ever in 2024?
Haywarduck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Normal and average are the sum total of all the data, both ways added up and then divided by the total data points. What we want is average, normal almost all the time and seldom happens. That is why living in San Diego is so appealing. The weather is almost always pleasant and very predictable. The predicted high temp varies 4 degrees over the next ten days. Where I live it is going to vary by 4 x that much. I hear people all the time lamenting about how we are above average or below average temperature. Average doesn't happen as much as seeing above or below. This is especially true in areas cheaper to live than expensive to live. It drives me nuts when I hear people complain about the weather too! San Diego is extremely expensive place to live. Areas where you see the weather all over the place cheaper. Same goes for officiating. In the NFL they make about $250,000 a year. In the NCAA they make about $25,000 a year. I think we are getting what we pay for, maybe a bit more. I suppose this is just how I look at things, everyone can view things their own way, and live with it. -
Are College Referrees The Worst Ever in 2024?
Haywarduck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The whole idea makes me sick. From tosu only complaining about calls that didn't go their way to the yankees complaining about called strikes that cost them the game. People need to take care of their own business and realize others will make mistakes and accept that gracefully. I think it comes down to a societal problem more than an isolated college football problem. We have way too many people looking for someone else to blame rather than stepping up and owning what they have brought to the table. I will start and take responsibility for the attitude I bring to the table. -
Oregon: The Next Coaching Rehabilitation Center?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Seems like we have gone from a rehabilitation center to a coaching accelerant center. We hired Lanning, an OC, instead of our standard hire an underachiever and make that coach successful template. In the past we hired the Bellotti type coaches, a losing record as head coach, and made them winners. Taggart was a loser, as was Mariø before coming to Oregon. We rehabilitated their coaching record and made them very wealthy from that success. We are now on a coaching accelerant path. Dilly was a glorified qb coach who became our OC. The next year he is a head coach. Locklyn was in charge of high school relations, position coach for one year, then our RB coach, then off to tosu for big money. I think we are seeing Oregon do what it does best, make great coaches. The good news is our head coach isn't going to fly off like Dilly and Locklyn, but we will probably see others follow them. I also see Oregon continuing to pluck guys who, on the surface, seem woefully under qualified at their coaching position hired like A'lique Terry and become fabulously successful. Stein is another who could be called under qualified to take over such a successful spot. I look for us to get away from rehabilitation, and become the spot for the hotshot young coach to jump at the chance at success. This actually started with CK, and has just now really taken hold of our program. CK is just an early warning sign for some of the coaches to be cautious about leaving, unless they just want the big paycheck, an headaches as they move along. I do hope we don't never hire a Lincoln Riley type coach and rehab him. I want to see Oregon continue to be the accelerant of young up and coming hungry coaches! We need that with the new recruiting, NIL, transfer world the Oregon Program lives in. -
The Problem? Oregon is TOO DARN BORING!
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Listen to how professional wrestling always had a good guy and a bad guy. They were doing pretty well with this format. They went with all bad guys and the attendance went through the roof. Moral of the story is people love the bad guy thing. Biggest news item this season was when Lanning put 12 guys on the field. He went mute on the subject so he is back to the good guy, boring. Maybe he should have said he did it, will do it again, and will always look to take any advantage he can take? The talk, ratings and interest would go through the roof! -

Good catch on it being Harmon, but I was about 20 yds away from the play and the whistle had definitely blown. He also had brought him backward about 5 yds., which is why the whistle had blown. If you observe the play you can see almost everyone was disengaged and Harmon basically did a pick up an throw down. That kind of tackle can be penalized even if the whistle hasn't been blown. My take is this is a learning moment, and can't be repeated. The lifting and throwing you describe is actually a penalty. I do agree Harmon is an important player on the team. We can't afford to lose him because he gets a penalty for an illegal tackle. He is also a leader and should be above that type of play IMHO. The big lesson is how one little mistake can lead to 6 points. I am sure Dan will use this as a learning moment, and then 'so what, now what!'

I would add Novosad and Riggs looked good in mop up duty. Watching Riggs bounce around and run with energy shows the depth of the RB room. Novosad almost looks like Justin back there without the gun, I suppose few have a rifle like Herbert. The poise and skill by the back-ups give me even more hope for the magical season to extend, no matter what comes up. I suppose the question is what is the true depth chart? Are Novosad and Riggs, 8.8 ypc!, above those on the chart I read? They both looked good and ready to compete when needed. The last comment is how damaging a penalty can be. Without the penalty on Caldwell (Harmon), it is a change of possession. With the penalty the possession became the Illini's only TD. I hope this is a lesson learned by all!
