  1. Agree I don't care how the Ducks win, as long as it is legal. Pay the NIL, go to another conference, lose a couple games, but win the big one! I just wish Dante had received another year with our Ducks. If there is a coach who deserves a break and a championship it is Dana Altman. Bottomline, Go Ducks and who cares about all the garbage going on in college sports, just give me great Duck athletics!
  2. NIL, conferences, playoffs, transfers, actual student athletes, non revenue sports, we will see how these all play out over the next few years. All of them will look like nothing we have seen before, and that isn't just NIL which was really only seen in select conferences and programs in the past. Take a look and have some coffee. And remember don't look directly at the sun!
  3. Saying 'we' got played takes the onus away from Larry and to a lesser extent George. We had nothing to do with the incompetent negotiations, and deal which was made. I hope I don't come across as flippant to those on this board, but we got taken on a ride, in the back seat. More like, in the trunk!
  4. UCLA is the like the Packard automobile, once great, often looked at to revive, and was a pretty car, but just not relevant.
  5. What we are looking at, 4th week in the season......
  6. If I was picking between a guy who is 6' 3" 205 lbs. and runs the 40 in 4.8 seconds or a guy who is 6' 0" 175 lbs. and runs the 40 in 4.9 seconds I would pick the bigger, faster guy. Now I think we are extremely lucky to have both of the these guys on the field, but Traeshon is a guy you seldom see lined up at receiver with those measurables. When I see him run with the ball it seems he should be playing on Sundays. I think with more looks he is going to go legendary this year. Measurables can be overtaken by heart and effort. I would love to see Stewart do just that. I just have to pick Traeshon over Stewart for now. One thing I do want to see is Oregon having dominate receivers. Fortunately we have a guy who can deliver the ball, may the best guy win and lets stretch the field, big time!
  7. I think this is a fascinating coaching match-up. You have Smart who didn't get into the playoff, against DeBoer who was outmatched against Michigan and Harbaugh. Deboer against Smart will say a lot about which coach, program will lead the way in the coming years. Who is going to fill the Saban void as the dominate coach going forward. I can only imagine the doubt many will have about Deboer if he loses to Smart in Tuscaloosa. The pressure to win and keep winning at Alabama has to be intense. This whole season seems to be set up to better figure out who is going to be the top coach in this new era of NIL, transfers, longer playoff season. What program is going to fill the void Saban left, or will it just be Alabama continuing to dominate? So much to be gleaned from this game this weekend. Our Ducks will just continue on their quiet path, and hopefully continue to build into what is needed to compete agains the best, and the rest.
  8. MariØ isn't just the name of a coach, mariø is a verb. With MariØ as the coach, he will surely mariø a game, count on it.
  9. It is interesting all the factors that come into play as a team travels. Few, if any, of the factors are in the traveling teams favor. One fact is players performance is impacted by the time of day. If one team is playing at their prime time then they are at an advantage, usually the home team, especially when traveling across country. Referees are also a disadvantage. Coaches can highlight these situations so the players are better able to accept, rise up and play through them. Or they can recruit the entitled, foster poor behavior, and then just whine about process like sc.
  10. I think there is pretty good research showing there is unintentional referee bias towards the home team. This is just one of the factors a team has to be aware of and work through. Either that or you can be sc and whine about it.
  11. A picture is worth a thousand words and that screen shot of Boettcher is a beauty. If he was playing baseball, he would be ready for any bad bounce. In football he is relaxed and able to mirror any move by a RB. I suppose the greatest thing that picture shows is how relaxed, balanced his body is, while reacting to the RB. We probably all have pictures of Boettcher defending the pass plays in our heads. The way he reaches out and bats the ball away, like a line drive he catches on the fly, which he has done many times. Boettcher is definitely an affirmation the program should look towards multi-sport athletes and all the benefits one can gain from learning the nuances of other disciplines. Boettcher is also another stellar student athlete. Deans list, Pac-12 academic honor roll multi years. I do want to give huge kudos to Charles for creating this shot and the many others that speak volumes about OBD. This one just stood out, but there have been so many. The writing, management of the website, and so many others things done for us here are often over looked, under appreciated. I want bring to light this element, and express my true gratitude!
  12. We transfer in guys like the NFL picks up draft picks. You evaluate their college play and decide if they are going to be a good fit in the positions you need. The NFL trades for players and drafts college kids. College football is just doing what the NFL has done for a long time. Some kids are deciding to transfer rather than go into the NFL. That is the key, find players who still want to develop their craft and go to college. Nix could have gone pro, decided to give it another year at his transfer location. Much like in the NFL some picks are busts, some turn into GOAT.
  13. Fortunately the selection committee picks 12 this year. I have a feeling the teams with depth and momentum at the end of the season will be the real threats. It might come down to is Dante or Austin able to get us a win? Win the BIG championship game, or hold our own and things just might be interesting. There is so much football ahead of us and so many questions unanswered, actually so many questions we don't even know! I have a feeling some of these teams are going to be saying......
  14. A little more the right, ok much better!
  15. I miss Bucky, no doubt, but Haasenritter at the bottom of the depth chart always amazed me. Maybe it was just junk time, defense was tired, but the guy runs through people. Two things I like to see if guys who run over people and those who make players miss. The main think lacking is yds after contact. The first guy rarely got a paw on Bucky and it took more than one to take him down. Nice to see Bucky making the Bucs and having an impact already, great story with that guy. Maybe as the long ball game gets going these RB's will get better open field runs, I hope so!
  16. There are averages, and then there are trends. I like the trends I see with out Ducks. Passing, scoring, along with many defensive stats are trending up. Once a few more games show continued improvement in numbers, we will see the averages go up too. I also realize I am kind of skewing the data, but I like to think the trend is our friend.
  17. I tend to agree the qb pretty much always defines a team. One thing I believe we are seeing is DG is a better long ball thrower than Nix was. We already see DB can play like Nix, in the first game, extremely accurate, short passes. The last two games he is starting to air it out and his yds per catch are going up, above where Nix was. While I agree DG defines this team, I think what will define DG is his long ball threat. Going forward, if needed, I envision the long ball breaking the backs of teams and really spreading out the field like we haven't seen since Justin was slinging it. When a defense has defend, and be careful about the deep threat, it changes the game in ways we are just beginning to see.
  18. The cougs beat the dawgs. I have to say I love seeing that as there are few teams the dawgs dislike losing to more than the cougs. WSU beats UW, in Seattle, 24-19, looking like the good old days in montlake!
  19. What I know about this age group, generation, is you can talk about what it takes to succeed until your blue in the face, but until they experience it, they will just act like they are listening, understand and will just keep doing it their way. This Duck group seems to be just like the young men I know their age. Fortunately the group will now start talking about what 'they learned' and will undoubtedly step it up. I can only imagine Lanning is as frustrated as I often am when I work with this age, generation. There is definitely good news as the talent is there, effort is developing, and wisdom is being gained through experience that isn't costing us anything yet.
  20. Too frustrating to watch, I'm going outside to play! I mean you hit him, have ahold of him, but let him go! I'm gone too!
  21. It is like the defense has never seen a screen play. The lack of awareness, is shocking. I love the aggressiveness, but you have to be conscious of what is going on around you.
  22. This team is wack a mole, o-line steps up, defense falls down. Time to start firing on all cylinders!
  23. I didn't like Jordan James running out of bounds on his first run. From there on out he ran very well, kudos. This does look like a coming out party for DG and the receivers, much needed! 7-0, loving it! Thinking this is what the beav fans are looking like.
  24. Very sad beaver fans, oh on the field, I agree with Charles, I want to see the passing game put the fear in other teams, and open up our running game. I will go back and say if the beaver fans are upset, all will be good!
  25. We have no idea what college football will look like in 5-10 years. The previous 100 years will pale in comparison to the crazy things we will see. The good news is if you don't like what you see so far, it will change. The bad news it just might be worse. The great news it will still be football, and Oregon will be in the thick of it. I know I will be watching, mostly on tv, but I will always love my Ducks! As for the beavs and the cougs partnering with the above map, that is a joke that would never last, much like many of the leagues. The crazy part is all of college sports is going to completely change too.
