Why Bo Nix Should NOT Start at Oregon
DUCKED replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think Nix is the likely starter in the opener against Georgia. In fact, I think that was the main reason the Ducks showed interest. He’s played Georgia before, and won’t be intimidated. Can’t say the same about Thompson, Butterfield or Ashford, none of whom played enough this year to develop the confidence needed to compete against Georgia…….on the road, no less. But Nix has his limitations and I wouldn’t be surprised that if he begins to struggle Lanning will look to the young guys -- those who are still around and haven’t entered the portal — to step up. -
Time to Ditch the Ugly Basketball Court
DUCKED replied to Darren Perkins's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
All well and good, but it’s super distracting on television……not nearly as bad in person. -
Meyer is a jerk, but so are a lot of college coaches. More importantly he is toxic. He would eventually embarrass himself and the University and shed a negative light on the entire football program. Stay away.
-
Did he consult with Dillon Mitchell? Obviously not. Had Mitchell stayed one more year with Herbert throwing him passes his draft stock would likely have dramatically risen, and the added year with the now budding NFL star would have put a few more dollars in his pocket. He’s now on someone’s practice squad. Williams is facing a similar fate. He may not be drafted at all. Staying another year with a decent quarterback who can throw the ball would have been a wiser decision.

Mycah Pittman Explains Why He Decided to Transfer.
DUCKED replied to latracey's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I, too, have no problem with Pittman leaving. He was not utilized in a manner remotely resembling what he, and other talented receivers, were promised. And yes, his decision was based largely on his feeling that he had to go elsewhere to give himself a legitimate shot at the NFL. Nothing wrong with that…..see Burrow, Fields, Mayfield, Murray, etc., all transfers and now NFL starters, who made personal decisions that were instrumental in their later success. But, I certainly agree that leaving prematurely was a mistake. You stick it out, play hard to the finish, and don’t become a distraction. I don’t blame him for leaving, but the timing was awful. -
Mycah Pittman Explains Why He Decided to Transfer.
DUCKED replied to latracey's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
First of all let’s just stop with the nonsense that Oregon was the third best team in the country…..they weren’t even a top ten team, as was evidenced by one lackluster performance after another from the Ohio State game going forward. I think Pittman quit on Oregon because he felt Oregon had quit on him. Pittman was just one of many talented receivers on the team, and I’m sure he was also just one of several who were disgruntled. Receivers want to catch the ball….it’s really that simple. Sure, they block, they are used as decoys, but what they really want is to catch passes. And they can’t catch a pass if the quarterback can’t throw the ball. Is it any wonder, as Pittman intimated, that he was not at all the only unhappy player in the receivers room? I’m hopeful that Lanning is not just giving lip service to opening up the offense. If he fails to follow through, more receivers may be moving on, and recruiting replacements could be challenging. Oregon football became a national brand during the Chip Kelly years because it was exciting. Now it’s just…..blah! That needs to change. -
The Big Question: Who's Going to Make the Offense go at Oregon?
DUCKED replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
You nailed it, 30Duck. -
And Urban Meyer never coached at Ball State. He was the head coach many years ago at Bowling Green.

You are calling Mario a snake..... Because he left for a job in his home town, at his alma mater, and has a desire to be close to his family, especially his mother who is having serious health issues? Oh, and he'll make $8 million dollars a year! And that makes him a snake? Coaches move on.....
-
No he didn’t…..unless you want to say that about any coach who ever left for another job. He had a great opportunity and he seized it. let’s move on and find a coach who can develop all the great talent the Ducks have on their roster.

The coaching carousel is here to stay.

I have to disagree. It is extremely difficult to recruit top level players to Berkeley. On a good day the stadium may be half full, the facilities pale in comparison to most Pac-12 schools…..and certainly don’t remotely come close to those at Oregon. Given what Oregon has to offer, I can’t help but believe Wilcox can recruit a helluva lot better than he did at Cal. My main concern is what type of offense will Wilcox, a defensive coach, put on the field. Hopefully, something productive and exciting that will give the fans what they have been missing these last few years.
-
Pretty sure what he said was absolutely true. He hadn’t talked with anyone…..but his agent sure did. Semantics. I wish him well. But I also look forward to our next coach, someone who will return the excitement to Autzen Stadium.
-
A voice of reason. Cristobal busted his ass for Oregon. He had shortcomings, to be sure. Game preparation, clock management, player development, to name a few. But perhaps his greatest weakness was a stubborn streak and failure to make adjustments when they were so obviously needed. That was never more evident than in the 2nd loss to Utah. Still, should he move on, I wish him well.

Seriously?

Quarterback play, that was the difference between the OSU game and last night’s debacle. Brown had his best game of the season against the Beavers, and by far his worst game last night, a 7.7 QB rating! When you can’t sustain anything offensively, the defense gets no rest and will eventually wear down, and that is was happened.

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman has reportedly received confirmation that Freeman, ND’s defensive coordinator, will be the Irish’s new head coach.
-
And he’s right. A bigger payday and an easier ride to the CFP. No brainer.
-
Devon Williams is the 3rd wide receiver? Doesn’t than seem strange? He has been the Ducks’ best receiver all year. Is something going on that we don’t know about?
-
Biggest win was Ohio State, on the road. The Rose Bowl win pales in comparison.

I think the Rose Bowl is enough motivation….
