On a plus side, the later a first-round player is taken, the better the team he goes to.

As long as he wears a lifejacket when he even goes near a body of water in Oregon!

Size 13 boots--they should keep him well anchored.

It bothers me that, looking back, in or around mid-November MC seemed to let his interest in Miami distract him in regard to coaching Oregon.

Grew up in CT, moved to Eugene with my dh and daughter in 1975 when he got a job as a professor at the UO. None of us had ever been to a college football game. In fact, the only football game we'd been to was a Giants preseason/exhibition game at Yale Bowl. Neither my high school nor college had football teams. (I was once teasingly chastised by my HS history teacher because I didn't know who Y.A. Tittle was.). So, we decided to go to the Duck-beav game that year. At that point I think the Ducks had beaten the beavs only once since 1963. But the Ducks won that day and we were hooked. Went to every home game the next year, then got season tickets the year after that.

No shame. That's the SEC and smart playoff scheduling...
When the SEC schedules easy ooc games, it's great. But if PAC-12 schedules such teams, suddenly it counts against them for strength of schedule.

Las Vegas wouldn't be an equitable comparison for Duck fans, distance wise.
the problem is, there are no major stadiums available in similar driving distance.
Exactly.
But I'll bet lots of Duck fans would drive/fly to Vegas. Not sure about Georgia fans.

Well, Mercedes Benz stadium is 71 miles from Sanford Stadium, so they are technically correct as the game isn't played at UGA home field.
Yes, technically correct.
So maybe an SEC team will play Oregon at a neutral site such as Las Vegas?

This is probably a mom point of view, but one could also say that Saban didn't prepare the backups well enough....just sayin'.

... The trick will be establishing a culture which Riley has never done. Can he turn an ego playground into a winning unit....
I remember one year Bellotti saying that USC had the best players, but that they didn't play as a unit.

Sounds like a lot of good vibes!

I hope it does play out that Oregon will be on Game Day twice!

Great point. Where did Willie go 10-2? ...
It was at South Florida, 2016, just before he came to Oregon (assuming I read all this correctly!).

I don't get all the love being thrown at 62-60 Mario and at the Miami program in general.
Well, just before he came to Oregon Willie Taggart did have a 10-2 season, but the previous 6 years he had a 30-48 record, and lot of people were excited about WT coming here.

Hollins will be a great one. To bad we didn’t get more of him at Eugene. Seems to be the theme song any more. That senior year is becoming a thing of the past.
I agree, he will be a great one. I believe Hollins did spend 5 seasons at Oregon, and had been a red-shirt senior, though maybe he could have stayed another year if he chose to due to the covid-shortened season?

I think Lanning reaching out to former players (and coaches, should he do so) is a good thing. I imagine he listens to them and then sifts through what they say for whatever information he thinks will help him understand the past, benefit the present, and plan for the future.

I keep an eye on the scores, and it's always fun to learn something about the players.
