Why wouldn't the same line of thought apply to high school athletes? NCAA athletes have the opportunity to earn a scholarship with tuition, room and board, medical care, etc. High school athletes basically get bupkis although they may play in a bigger stadium than many colleges.

From the Des Moines Register looking at Iowa State finances. I suspect this is a bit more accurate than a random blogger and they say $31 million.
The Big 12’s new television contract is expected to be worth an average of $31 million per year to each school over its six years. The current deal pays an approximate average of $28 million per year per school.

I just glanced at FanSided.com criteria for writers, not exactly rigorous IMO. I bolded the section which explains the dire nature of many of the "articles".
We are looking for contributors in all areas, but we are particularly interested in writers interested in covering Daily Fantasy sports (NFL, College, Golf, Racing, MMA), MMA, soccer and NASCAR.
FS.com contributors should possess the following skills:
-Strong knowledge of NFL, College Football, NASCAR, NBA, NHL, MLB, Fantasy Sports and/or television/entertainment
-Enjoys writing quickly in order cover breaking news
-Can react quickly and apply opinions and context to breaking news
-Ability to “move the conversation forward” by providing “hot takes” on the sports and entertainment stories of the day (Example: “Geno Smith Injury: 5 reasons the Jets are better off with Fitzpatrick”

They probably are but that is part of the question. What should the standards cover and who decides if they are violated? The post by Mr. Rambis does an excellent job of expanding on the questions.

I wonder how NIL deals are written to handle this type of situation. This one is fairly egregious, threatening someone with a gun is universally considered inappropriate, but how would they handle the the wide scope of potential indiscretions a typical young male may commit?
Jeremiah Masoli stealing a laptop is easy, but what about Cliff Harris being stopped for speeding and his "We smoked it all" comment? Would/should that negate potential income in the six or seven figure range? Would the flimsy allegations against LaMichael James?
How do they even write that into a contract when it can't be based on enrolling in school or being a member of a team?

The Pac-12 Conference issued a written statement from its 10 remaining presidents and chancellors on Monday.
It read:
“The 10 Pac-12 universities look forward to consummating successful media rights deal(s) in the very near future. Based upon positive conversations with multiple potential media rights partners over the past weeks, we remain highly confident in our future growth and success as a conference and united in our commitment to one another.”
The statement amounts to a curious public-relations punch from the 10 conference stakeholders, designed to combat some criticism and uncertainty unearthed last week by a variety of media outlets.
One Pac-12 source said: “Some of the media narrative on that is not accurate.”

Wouldn't the Pac-12 presidents rely on the council and advice from Limousine Larry? Their expertise is in academia and administration, and athletics and media rights. They focus on positioning for research grants and endowments, not whether an alum in Cincinnati can watch Utah play Washington State. They need to befriend and cajole state and local politicians, not media moguls.
I think it is fair to fault the presidents for not questioning Larry Scott to a greater extent but wasn't the primary basis for their decisions the snake oil he was peddling? Garbage in, garbage out.

With the advent of a twelve team playoff what is the advantage of a sixteen member league? The argument previously was the championship game was an opportunity to improve your position in the beauty contest administered by the playoff committee. Now, with the potential of an additional four games aren't you better off getting a week of rest? Revenue from a league championship contest is easily offset by playoff payouts.
All I see is a lot more mouths to feed and, since being one of sixteen doesn't have as much clout as one of ten, a diminished voice is league decisions.

Brett McMurphy confidently predicted Oregon was on track to join the B1G. Also last August he proclaimed "The Big ten's not done, I reported back in July, the sources told me they weren't done expanding. I'm still hearing that same information."
I expect Kliavkoff to explore all possibilities but SMU is nearly 1,000 miles from the nearest Pac-? member and 1,400 miles from their presumed travel partner San Diego State. It doesn't make logistical sense. How do you play a weekend basketball slate with schools that far apart?

Looking for names with Oregon ties I'm surprised this guy isn't on the list. Well respected Oregon alum who worked with Chip Kelly and Steve Greatwood. Job duties for grad assistants and analysts aren't well defined so tough to know if he has enough actual hands on coaching experience.

Klemm was slated to get $850,000 this year. Toss is the roughly $200,000 buyout of his contract and Lanning has a lot of salary dollars to lure another candidate.
Oregon also saved a couple hundred thousand on the Will Stein/Dilly swap. Wonder if they will use some of it to bump up Carlos Locklyn who seems underpaid at $175,000?

One of the perceived benefits of expanding the number of conference members was a possible high profile championship game to enhance your resume. With the twelve team format on the horizon I don't see an advantage of playing an extra late season contest against a quality opponent. A season ending gauntlet of a traditional rivalry game, conference championship game and then possibly four playoff games without an emotional letdown is a lot to ask. Add in college finals, a lot of travel and general holiday angst.
Meanwhile the elite will get a first round bye. Doesn't a smaller conference with a round robin schedule and no title game accomplish nearly the same? Is having a fourteen or sixteen member conference really a benefit?

But the question is if the courts rule college athletes are employees to be compensated why not high school athletes? A business is generally required to pay employees in an apprenticeship program. It could be argued the same principle applies to secondary schools sports.
