  1. Very strange interaction between Chip and Pat Narduzzi after the game.  Incomplete video appears to show Narduzzi trying to talk to Chip, even pulling on his jacket sleeve.  CK said something as he held up a thumb (almost a dismissive wave) and walked away.  It will be interesting to see what the pundits say.

And with a 12 team playoff you're going to want to get out of the regular season with an intact team.

Isn't the prevailing wisdom the top four teams will get a first round bye and the remaining four games will be played at the home field of the higher seed?  I think a 12-0 or 11-1 Pac-?? champion would have a seeding advantage against most 10-2 or 9-3 SEC or B1G also rans.

  3. There are a lot of moving pieces on limits with covid and the transfer portal.  I believe rules as they stand today are that there are no limits on signing class size but the 85 scholarship limit returned after temporarily being lifted for 2021.  The limit on scholarships going forward remains at 85.

Life would be much simpler if the NCAA made this information available to the general public in an easily searchable format.

The article linked below is 15 months old but I believe still accurate with respect to annual limits.

I believe/read  somewhere that scholarships are year by year. Essentially, a coach could tell a player their scholarship isn't going to be renewed next year, so go to a lesser school.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

To my knowledge there has not been a change to the policy in the last eight years.

Oh, and let's not forget the hypocrisy of the bowl committee salaries taking a HUGE bite out of the money earmarked for the charities they "support" . . .

    Orange Bowl:

    ASSISTANTSHIP PROGRAM =$156,207

MIAMI HOST COMMITTEE ASSISTANTSHIP PROGRAM = $55,602

Account Executive, Corporate & Premium Sales =$96,908

Account Executive, Member & Client Services =$168,688

Account Executive, Partnership Sales = $108,216

    Account Executive, Ticket Sales =$96,908

    Coordinator, CRM & Data Analytics = $91,829

Just saying, pretty sure those aren't 40 hour a week, 52 weeks a year jobs.

Yikes!  I hadn't seen those number before, that is absurd.

Don't know if it still happens but bowls used to send "representatives" to games during the regular season which I'm certain were all expenses paid.  What a thankless job, fly around the country to watch college football and be hosted in the press box.

  6. In theory this is a one year exception?

Poking around looking for the 'average' cost of a D1 recruiting trip turned up the wide disparity in recruiting budgets.  Surprised Oregon is 1/3rd of Georgia.

Wonder if the private jet is considered loaned at no cost?

  7. 247Sports National Analyst and Lone Star State native Gabe Brooks likes this pickup for the Ducks.

“Good height and length with big hands and a lean, athletic frame,” Brooks wrote in his scouting report. “Should be able to add considerable mass. Physical upside is a plus. Excels delivering from the pocket over the middle in the short-to-intermediate passing game. Has shown impressive ball placement consistency to multiple levels. Particularly dangerous hitting moving targets on slants and other inward-breaking routes. Keeps the ball fairly high with a relatively overheard release. Ball gets out quickly enough. Generates encouraging throw power on the run. Good athletic profile that includes experience in the 110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, and triple jump. Also owns solid combine testing data. Enormous production across three full varsity seasons. Averaged about 275 passing yards per game across nearly three dozen contests from 2020-22.

  8. DECEMBER 20

The David Hicks recruiting sage appears headed for overtime.

According to On3's Sam Spiegelman, the touted in-state defensive lineman will indeed end the process by inking a National Letter of Intent this week -- but it may not get sent in until Friday. Wednesday is viewed as the new defacto signing day, but in reality it is just the first day or the Early Signing Period.

Hicks has long been committed to A&M, and he was back on campus for a critical official visit over the weekend as both Oklahoma and Oregon give chase.
