  1. Reading between the lines it seems Oregon is gaining momentum.  From the start of a premium post by an insider on a Gamecocks forum "Sometime after midnight EST, there seemed to be a tide turn...".  Another member posted "The tea leaves appear to have taken an 11th hour turn west for this young man's services. Bummer. I hate nike." and "They have sources on coaching staffs. Harbor has already told all of the coaching staffs of his decision. All the schools know."

All speculation at this point but the above were posted within the past couple hours.  A glimmer of hope.

  2. I guess I just don't see the urgency, especially if the Pac-10 are of one mind.  Obviously nice from a fan perspective but that is about it.  San Diego State may be in play but losing them would only have a minimal impact some years down the road.  I would rather get the media rights contract done right than done fast  Champaign Larry got the Pac into a bad contract, it appears the same happened to the ACC.

The stampede to realign  conferences has slowed to a crawl.  Kliavkoff has time negotiate the best deal.

I'd way rather watch a team build chemistry and players develop skills over time than watch a bunch of guys just biding their time for a year before they can run off to the pros where most have failed to have much of an impact at.

Nailed it!  I've gone from attending the games live and then heading home to stay up late and watch a replay during the Kamikaze Kids era to not even turning on a televised game in the 5* era.

  4. "Sometimes you, sometimes me, always us" was the epitome of an Altman coached team.   I'm not sure he even enjoys coaching the player who is making the obligatory stop before the NBA.  He can't be happy with the product on the floor the past couple years.

I know next years class glitters with all the five star rankings.  It will be interesting to see how they perform.  Jackson Shelstad may be exactly what Oregon and Dana need, a player in the Pritchard/Brooks mold who is a gym rat who demands excellence from others.  Let's hope so.

  5. A problem with any of the purported valuations and NIL agreements is they don't include a time frame.  For example the $13 million for Rashada was over the length of the agreement.  Was that three years? Four? Five?  Are they pro-rated to escalate each year?  Is the $450,000 valuation for a high school senior or projection for a third year starter in college?

Not nearly enough transparency in the wild west of football recruiting these days.

  6. Fox Sports is one of the primary partners in the B1G $billion annual contract.  Would you be comfortable with an entity that is obligated to pay you hundreds of millions each year drawing the following comment?

FOX Sports has a business to run. Amid cord cutting and regional sports networks teetering on bankruptcy, the network is under increasing pressure to reduce expenses.

The principal of one of the pay sites, reported this.  Not the kind of thing he would snow us about, but he did not provide the NCAA rule.  I found it...

"The rule they’ve been using — 15.5.1.7 — is known as the “Aid After Departure of Head Coach” bylaw. Newly hired coaches can remove a player from their 85-man scholarship roster but keep them on scholarship as long as they stop playing."

If it sounds a little too much like we’re heading toward NFL-style roster cuts in college football, that’s not far from the truth.

Interesting.  The rule has been on the books since 2010 with a revision in 2017.  Surprised I've never seen it even mentioned in the last dozen years and I follow recruiting far more than I should.

I don't subscribe to The Athletic but here is another site with an explanation.

When an NCAA DI coach quits or is fired, even student-athletes who believe their guaranteed scholarship is safe may be in for disappointment and frustration.

  8. Is there anything cited to confirm this alleged rule?  I accept very little simply because someone says it is true and generally try to verify.  It very well may be fact but initially is doesn't pass the (censored) test.  I'll dig deeper when I have a bit more time but a quick check didn't even hint at such a regulation.  Obviously I'm skeptical.

    Can you provide more information?

  9. Wah!  Wah!  Wah!  I'm getting picked on.  Not fair.  Wah!  Wah!  Wah!  I want my mommy.

Didn't finish either piece.  What a bunch of drivel.  If they think back to back road games on the west coast are unfair wait until they are scheduled in Wisconsin, Minnesota or Michigan in late November with a 4,000 mile round trip.  At least they have their millions to keep them warm.

Are we sure we can't kick them out this year?

  10. Chip should be fired if he doesn't get double digit wins.  His three toughest games are on the road but no Oregon or Washington.

  11. I'm wondering if Cam McCormick was encouraged to look elsewhere.  After seven years Oregon no longer had an obligation to provide a scholarship and a number of difficult decisions must be made to get the the magic 85 limit.  All accounts I've read indicate incoming freshman Kenyon Sadiq may be underrated even as a high four star and of course Nyckoles Harbor is still in the picture.

Dillingham seemed to place a lot of emphasis on the tight end position, does Will Stein do the same?
