Ok. This one is close to my heart. So I am going to intentionally stay a bit vague as to not cause waves.
First, I have zero knowledge of facts or connection to the women”s beach volleyball team. So this is zero comment on that situation. However, this offers ONE opinion on the general situation, so here goes. I can offer this. My daughter plays for a UO woman’s sport, albeit not a “premier” one.
The university had been beyond supportive. To the point of “wow”. Both from my kid’s perspective and mine as a parent of a student athlete. Resources are not ever present, iBut communication on approach is. She was recruited coast to coast and chose UO because of the environment. It has exceeded all of our expectations.
Go Ducks.

Exactly ZERO major, medium, or minor news outlets or journalists have run with this. As John Candy said in “Vacation”, “Nobody has informed this office of, well, anything!”

23 year TTech home opener win streak over. Oregon just ended it. Celebrate that. Hard to do. Places like this make good teams create mistakes.

Sure, but $10M/yr for 7 years will probably kill Cal Football, esp. if they continue to underperform... Furd got deep pockets, but not sure the culture there will tolerate long-term losses either... Interesting to see what happens.
Completely agree. I just meant I can see why they jumped to stay in a power conference when it is clear Pac is no longer one. Even though the $ sucks.

Maybe, maybe not the same as ACC talks. We know ACC vote was 11-4 YES and today shifted to 12-3 YES (NC St flipped). Door was very much still open.

Seems like they can do better by staying in pac-4 and add to it, no?
They get to remain in a Power conference in ACC, also with better longer term $ prospects. PAC-X won’t be a P5.

AAC just said no thanks to OSU and WSU.
AAC says it won't expand 'westward' as Oregon State and Washington State look for a conference

The Mountain West looks to be the likeliest option for both schools after Cal and Stanford left for the ACC on Friday. -
ACC decision on Stanford, Call, SMU possible today.

Three weeks of deep exploration into a three-team expansion plan including Stanford, Cal and SMU appears to coming to an end.

This smells like negotiating tactics on all or 1-2 of the Pac4s part. And that’s smart.

Commissioners of the two leagues will deliver expansion presentations in the coming days to officials from Washington State and Oregon State, sources tell Yahoo Sports. -
Exactly.
Networks wanted to shed the dead weight, why pay $30M each for Beavis and Coug. Then starting with Colorado, the recent 6 that left the Pac decided the same thing. Getting watered down by low value partners. Sad but smart.
Sure sounds like Stanford and Cal will be officially gone any hour now.
Oregon State move from Pac-12 to MWC looks set as CFB insider claims Power Five to Group of Five move for the Beavers confirmed

The Oregon State Beavers are one of four schools remaining in the Pac-12, which has appeared on the verge of collapse for much of the summer. -
In wonderful irony for whiners…
Barnes now a rumored candidate for the vacant UW AD job.
USC hates that UO and UW are now in the B1G, yet hires UW’s AD who made that B1G leap.
WSU AD a strong candidate for Ohio St B1G AD job.

Stanford and Cal to the ACC? Five (not-so) bold conference expansion predictions
WWW.YAHOO.COM
A look at five predictions for conference expansion for the Big Ten, ACC and SEC. -
Clemson, Florida St, North Carolina, and NC St are the current no votes keeping Stanford and Cal out of the ACC. They need one to flip, which is unlikely. This is good news if you are a Beav or Coug, better chance of PAC surviving via expansion or merger. It’s dead without Stanford.

Sounds like NIL is a big deal for Baker and Texas is all in.
-
Do not forget the $34M buyout for any MWC team is highly prohibitive. Especially for a Pac4 with no media $. It is not as easy as it sounds to just bring some on board. Most likely is a full conf merger or absorption. Cal & Stanford clearly do not want that even though keeping it open as an option, given ACC does not yet have the votes to add them. Feels OSU & WSU might be MWC bound and with no negotiating leverage. Not even sure the $4m a year per team MWC media deal gets increased with expansion. But Feels a better option than AAC.

Well said! The whole thing. And the above quote can apply to the programs left behind and Apple.

Fun idea but can’t just poach MWC schools due to the huge $ buyout clause, with no media $ anymore to back that. Maybe it works the other way if MWC absorbs 2 or all of the remaining PAC 4. But Then they get the $4M per year MWC media deal…
-
The more I think on this…
Even if OSU, WSU, Cal, Stanford try and make a go as the Pac- they can’t afford MWC team team buyouts now, especially with no viable tv deal. SDSU and SMU can’t happen now.
And Apples already rotten deal has to be off the table now…not even worth it for them anymore at those $ with these Pac prospects. Maybe MWC goes with Apple at next contract to increase its $ via streaming.
So in meantime Pac4 brings in Eastern, Montana…
Or somehow convinces Big12 they need to hit 20 teams NOW and get added on the chest at low%s . But Seems Big12 should not keep buying until they stand back to see what SHOULD be next, vs what is desperate. Can’t see WSU and OSU being better than some other options for Big12 add…after the Zona schools and Utah go.
-
It’s basically down to where do OSU, WSU, Cal, & Stanford go.
What are things that we are aware of:
Mountain West buyouts are too expensive for any of them to come to PAC with those 4 before 2025.
Not hearing ANY talk of Mountain West absorbing anybody and their TV $ are so low they can’t afford splitting. Don’t know if their current contract allows for any $ in expansion.
Stanford has the $ to be independent for a year or 2. Not the others.
Big12 all but just added the 2 Arizona schools and Utah to go with Colorado. Even if they want to expand beyond that, OSU and WSU are waaaaaaaaaay down the list. Bay Area schools don’t seem to fit but maybe.
Really is sad but a Beavis and Cougs are really in a pickle.
Also feel sad for SDSU. Got led on by George without any firm ground or $.
