From Georgia: Watch Dan Lanning’s ‘Simulated Pressures’
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Mr. FishDuck for your analysis! Your use of the screenshot and video clip is superb. They make the teaching of the concept so much easier to understand. Duck fans appreciate the time and effort it takes to bring us the details of the Mint defense Coach Lanning brought to Oregon. It's been a long off season and football games are coming. Oregon Duck football is back. Go Ducks! -
Will Stein’s Oregon Offense: Play-Action Shallow-Cross
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Excellent play Coach Eric, thank you for bringing this to us! I always have liked a two back set. Cross buck action to confuse linebackers is golden. The linebackers are so worried about the run action the right WR is wide open after he takes 5 steps. Poor eye discipline by the DB's. Looks like all defenders anticipated run and were caught by surprise. -

Some Insight on the Colorado Debacle from Canzano
Smith72 replied to lownslowav8r's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Can anyone summarize the article for those who do not subscribe to Canzano? Thanks! -
BigGameBoomer, my only comment is B.S. (bull stuff). Stanford hasn't been relevant for running backs since McCaffrey. The boring Shaw offense; throw the ball to a tall tight end is more like Stanford not RBU.

Mike West "It seems to me the better route would be to ensure OBD schedule USC and UCLA as often as possible." I can understand your point, and it has merit in regards to competition and big names. However in my opinion, I personally would hope no PAC team ever schedules the traitors. Make them travel to BIG country to get a game!

It's nice to see Jackson Powers-Johnson and Josh Conerly Jr. get some love! They will be anchors on a good Oregon line.

Bassa’s Perfect Blitzing Technique in Holiday Bowl
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Excellent analysis Charles! J. Bassa executed the blitz like it was a drill in practice against a standing bag. Bassa will have the speed and technique to get many more this year. I watched the media day interview with Jeffrey and Bo. I do believe that Jeffrey has put on some more muscle mass since last year. His arms, shoulders, and calves seemed to look ready to bust the seams of his suit jacket and pants! He is one awesome linebacker. By the way, watch #3 Dorlus bring held by the left tackle. He gets to the QB a split second after Bassa. I agree with HappyToBeADuck and Haywarduck - let chaos run supreme things are looking up for the Lanning defense! -
Does Oregon Have Too Much Talent at RB?
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks David for today's article! Isn't it a wonderful problem to have - too much talent in the RB room! I agree with Log Hauling. "If one of the underclassmen can pry snaps from Bucky and Noah, this problem just gets more wonderful." I've always believed in fresh legs. Late in a game, when the defense is not fresh, a fresh RB can make a difference. T.I.L. Trust In Locklyn. Coach earned my trust last year! "Next Man Up" is better when that man has talent. Coach Lanning, Coach Stein, and Coach Locklyn are recruiting talented running backs. The Ducks are better for their efforts and are blessed! -
Will Stein’s Oregon Offense: The Tight End Slip
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Coach Eric for another glimpse of Will Stein's offense! Knowing the ability of Josh Conerly to catch passes you could also go tackle eligible with him doing the Slip route. More trickery. Love it. -

QUAAACK! RB Da'Jaun Riggs is a Duck
Smith72 replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If Coach Locklyn wants him so do I. Good vision, quick feet, quick to the hole using his blockers well, and strong leg drive! I trust Coach! -
Oregon Ducks Football: The Next Kayvon Thibodeaux
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Alex, it's always great to read about our Duck football players. I agree with you, "Fortunately, I don’t think we need to wait until 2024. I see the next Thibodeaux-esque players as already being on the Ducks’ roster." After watching the Spring game I came away impressed with the improvement in all areas of the defense. Jordan Burch #1 will have immediate impact on Pac-12 offenses! He looked NFL ready. I was also impressed with all the coverage by the secondary contesting passes and making tight windows difficult to pass into. We will see a much improved Coach Lanning defense this season. Go Ducks! -
The Will Stein Oregon Offense: Four Verts
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Coach Eric, I'm always excited when I see an article from you. Great info on the pre-snap read. Bo chooses the correct read. Even though the high safety favored the right #5 Holden easily beats his man and is also open. The safety would have helped but would've been behind also. The Ducks this year will have multiple receivers who can "Go" deep. Not too many defenses have 4 NFL type db's. Someone "Will" be open in Will Stein's offense! -
Can you summarize the article? I keep getting a log in request with the link.

Oregon Ducks Football: Biggest Recruit of 2024
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks for another of your great articles Alex! Excellent points to consider and discuss. Coach Lanning was very successful in his first year as a head coach. He is gathering an awesome coaching staff. I too have confidence Coach Lanning will continue to improve the Ducks. I also agree with Haywarduck, speed is coming back to Oregon. You can't coach speed. Speed is a difference maker. So many positives you brought up Alex. It's nice to read about the team and look forward to this coming season. Thanks again for my reading pleasure today! -
Unbelievable Interview with Oregon OL coach A'Lique Terry
Smith72 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thank you Charles for transcribing the interview. I agree totally that Coach Terry is a terrific person and Our Beloved Ducks are fortunate he is coaching the Ducks! He's the kind of coach I'd run through a wall for! -
Thank you Spartan 2785, you make a great point when you said, "The key to this is we can't just be super vanilla so that we can allow the QBs to show what they have." I know it's the ethical coach who tries not to run up the score or embarrass another team. However, when the backup QB is put in to run out the clock it is unfair to handcuff the offense. Last year it didn't take an Einstein to know that Thompson wasn't going to pass the ball further than 5 yards. Quick 3 and outs do not run out the clock. More possessions for the opponent stresses our defense. Having to put our starter back in increases the danger to our #1 QB. Cheap shots from a sore loser does happen. Letting a defense stack 8 or 9 in the box is asking for trouble. My preference is to keep the whole offense available to all the team backups. Let them shine. Keep possession of the ball. Then take a knee and run out the game clock.

Thanks Jon, the author is optimistic about our Oregon Ducks. Dan Lanning has steadily improved the team. I agree with the author, "If Oregon wins two of their three toughest games against Washington, Utah, and USC, I think 11-1 is very realistic."
