Coach Dillingham and Oregon’s New Counter Tunnel Screen
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Eric for explaining how this play works. Good job with the details! A good offensive coordinator uses a counter to take advantage of aggressive defensive defenders - especially ones he notices lacking discipline. Coach Dillingham is blowing my mind with a passing constraint play to his running counter! Wow, The Counter Tunnel Screen to the Center Tackle Counter!!! Counters are not used over and over as a base play. However, they are sprung when the defense is set up. The surprise usually results in long plays or touchdowns. Buckle up. I think we're going to see Oregon become an innovative offensive team again! Hip hip hooray! -
+ Along with Brandon Baker! It will be great to get both of these big O linemen.

Thanks for the warning, Darren! Here's hoping the coaching staff prepares the team for a successful "desert war". The continued process of improvement that Coach Lanning emphasizes is important - especially this week.

OBD GameDay Discussion Thread vs. Stanford Join Us!

I loved Alan Lohner's article when he said, deaf, dumb, and blind Pac-12 referred..." Did the refs read the article, get mad and want the game to be about them? -
Stanford Duck Syndrome–It’s Worse Than You Think

Thank you Alan, the "Stanford Duck Syndrome" is a classic! I'm glad I wasn't drinking my coffee when I started reading. -
Circa 2012: Lanning Replicates Bend-But-Don’t-Break Defense
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I love it! The Aliotti version of the Bend-But-Don’t-Break defense was a proven strategy. I wish that Coach Nick had been the head coach instead of Helfrich. We could've kept the explosive offense and never experienced the defensive disasters when he left. Give Coach Lanning time to recruit his type of D line players, and we will see more of what he did last year at Georgia. Thank you DazeNConfused for sharing your football expertise and skill of writing! -

Wonderful analysis Charles! Thanks for investing the time to teach us DL's concepts of creative pressure with 4. -
Best Defense: Wazzu’s Cover-1 or Oregon’s Cover-2?
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great analysis DnC! Excellent job of teaching Cover 1, 2, & 0. I can't wait until the coaches get the whole package of defense installed and perfected. -
Bo Nix Gives Oregon’s Offense New Life

Thanks Joshua, you make an excellent argument for Bo Nix! Your article was a fun read! -
There Is More than One Way to Coug It
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks for writing this confession! I think a lot of us have been guilty of similar behavior. I think the previous coach conditioned us to give up when things started going bad. We would never be able to catch up. Thank our lucky stars we have a new coach, and the team is buying into his determination. This is a different coaching staff, and we're seeing a new team! Go Ducks! -
"What’s Wrong with Miami’s (QB) Tyler Van Dyke?"

I tried using my android phone and link works. I should have done that before. My Kindle fire tablet doesn't like those links sometimes. Good article. Thanks Desert Duck. -

Miami Got Beat by..Middle Tennessee?
Smith72 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The reason I retired from coaching (besides being old), was the last head coach I worked under did the same thing. He stole the fun from football! Underutilized and unappreciated as an assistant was not worth the long hours. Time to retire. IMHO Mari no O is the same type. -
I was a fan of Cardwell. I'm still a fan of Byron. I was familiar with what he did for the Ducks last year. After 2 games I thought he should be the starter. I hope he gets healthy and gets back into the rotation. He will contribute again. I wasn't familiar with the new backs Bucky Irving and Noah Whittington. But now, WOW, I'm really impressed with both backs. Also equally impressed with the true freshman Jordan James. Bucky and Noah do everything a good running back should. They attack the hole quickly, have great vision, make quick cuts, slide steps, and spins, then finish with super aggression trying to punish tacklers. Hats off to Coach Locklyn for leading and developing the running backs. I think he's brought the SEC style of running to Oregon - A physical punishing attack. Go Ducks!

Our Offensive Line is Amazing...They Deserve More Credit

Give credit to Coach Klemm. Night and day from last year. Too many "ole" pass protections last year. -

Lanning Takes Ducks From Top-25 Beatdowns to Blowouts
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
"Lanning is also playing the entire two deep on the depth chart, and this is giving all players the game experience to develop. This short-term sacrifice by Lanning is creating quality depth that will pay off as the season progresses, and when the current non-starting, but experienced players move into a starting roles next year." Excellent observation DazeNconfused! Last night I rewatched the BYU game. I had the time to hear many backups make plays. That didn't click until reading your article this morning. I was also able to rewind and stop the action to note the different formations, count defenders, and see how brilliantly Dillingham is setting up the Offense to have advantages! Every staff member is an improvement in a short time. And because they all seem to be good teachers, improvement during the season will continue. -
The Oregon-Dillingham Offense: The New Arc Zone Read
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Coach Boles! Good analysis and teaching. "The Arc Zone Read is a concept that has the ability to lend itself to a variety of wrinkles." And Coach Dillingham is showing a delightful ability to add spice to the Oregon offense. -
I do most of my shopping on Amazon Prime. Save a ton of gas money with free shipping! I watch a lot of movies and tv shows on Amazon and Netflix. I watched the Thursday night game Chargers and Chiefs on Amazon Prime Video. Picture and audio was perfect. Everything was as good as or better than my Xfinity cable network showing ESPN, or Fox, ABC, NBC. Amazon wants to dominate sports broadcasting for the western part of our country. Amazon has a lot of money ($456 B revenue per year). I would love to keep the Pac-12 conference together without teams traveling coast to coast. Call me a traditionalist.

Where was Noah Sewell? He was doing his job. Sometimes a player doesn't get a stat but their contribution is very important. Dorlus makes a great play, but watch Noah Sewell set the edge. He takes out the TE and Tackle double team causing the bottleneck to slow the pulling linemen and back allowing Dorlus to make the play! #6 Jahlil Florence (true freshman) was also there to help clean up. Good team defense.

Who is the BEST ASSISTANT Coach at Oregon Thus Far?
Smith72 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
We the fans are the winners. The entire staff has contributed to major improvement in team performance this year. As to Coach Locklyn, the running back position is improved with quality depth. One small thing I noticed, but has major importance, is in game improvement. Irving had a great game! However, on his first big carry, he was swinging the ball down and away from his body. A fumble waiting to happen. I'm sure if I saw this then Coach Locklyn did too. The rest of the game (as much as I could tell from the TV), he was carrying the ball High and Tight. Better ball security! I'm so impressed that the entire staff is committed to teaching in practice, and teaching during the game. Nothing but positive relentless teaching! -
Irving, Whittington Demonstrate Oregon’s Backfield Depth
Smith72 replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Good recap of the rushing success for Oregon. Thank you Jordan! Irving and Whittington are really elusive strong runners. OBD are blessed to have a strong running back room. Equally impressive was Jordan James (true freshman) who came into game early to power thru for critical fourth down gains. In response to a question about Cardwell, Coach Lanning said he could have played but they wanted to protect him and allow him to recover. Such an improvement in coaching. Verdell was always overused to the point of getting injured. -
Coach Klemm is making an impact. I just finished watching the highlights of the game. No sacks. 212 yards rushing. Bo Nix's 2nd touchdown to Ferguson was a thing of beauty. 13 of 18 passing for 222 yards. Take time to watch the perfect pass protection by the O line. He had all day to make the pass to Ferguson. No sacks for third straight game! Great job Offensive Line!
